PC and PSX Doom even though they are the same games, they do have their differences to each other

here is an example of classic PC Doom

now here is the same level redone on PSX (sorry, best quality i could find :\)

now, which of these do you prefer. I myself grew up with the PSX version and only finding out that they were different only several years ago

no one's gonna comment in this thread? for shame!

anyway, when i was a wee kid, i played Doom on the PC a lot. i still do to this day, and once i discovered its modding community, i'll probably never leave the game.

now, as for the PSX version. i actuall own a copy of not only PSX Doom and Final Doom for the PSX, but Doom 64, as well. as far as Doom goes, they're all 3 the true, logical progressions of where the Classic Doom series left off: darker atmosphere, coloured lighting sectors, and fantastical ambient music. this is what Doom 3 REALLY should have been, and is exactly what Doom 64 is. that, i feel is the true sequel to Doom.

as for comparison, i still highly prefer PC Doom for its modding capabilities and such, but PSX Doom is a really good game, as well, in my opinion, and they both deserve to be held on high pedestals.

I only played the PC version of Doom on an online emulator. I really liked it and it was really fun. Especially the fact you don't have to have up and down aiming

PC, because of the brutal mod.

(warning, extreme gore inside)

I've never played PSX Doom. I don't like playing shooters with a gamepad anyway.

well, you guys are in luck if you want to play the PSX style Doom on PC, I found a .WAD for it (requires GZDOOM)

follow the instructions in the description and enjoy

i'm already aware of that wad. :P

it's pretty fun if you want to experience the game without having to emulate it or getting a copy yourself.

  • 1 year later...

Although I prefer the original PC version, the PSX version is probably the best of the console ports.

That being said, I didn't own the PSX version back then. I had the SNES version. I played it a few times. It had a neat looking red cartridge.
