@@Count Paradox,@,

(OOC: Now behold the Amazing Feather Quill and her spectacular comforting abilities!)

"Aw jeez..." Feather frowned as she watched Paradox walk away, wincing when she saw that the stallion was actually crying. She trotted over to sit beside him by the pool, and cleared her throat.

"Uh, Dox?" Feather took her hat off, holding it in one hoof. The other hung awkwardly in the air, unsure if she should lay it on the stallion's back or something - would he appreciate that, or take it as condescension?

"Um.." She began rather lamely, then stopped, stuck already. Feather felt eyes on her and, to her relief, saw Moon Wave watching them rather anxiously. Moon and Paradox were roommates, and they seemed to get along pretty well from what Feather had seen; with any luck she would know what to do; the right things to say. Feather gave the mare what she hoped was a look with the word "HELP" scrawled across it in gigantic letters.

@,

"If possible." Giant finished loading the truck he was on by heaving a gas tank and pushing it, solo, onto the back of the truck bed, then giving the vehicle a kick to send it to the row of ready-to-roll equipment. Almost done here--they had more stuff than he'd let himself hope for. That was good.

"How's Cascade doing?" he asked. "I saw them pick her up, not much I could do though, besides give her some air. Heh." He grunted once. "Outta' bandages anyway. First aid kit was only meant for one pony."

"Not yet, although I am aware of her condition. It's actually a quite fascinating." Star put away the book, deciding that maybe for now he could set aside his ambitions for a while. "It really doesn't matter. Maybe you should keep them apart for now, you know, until they have a chance to clear their heads. I certainly know nothing about either of these two, but I can only hope they'll see reason. You shouldn't be punishing yourself over it, it doesn't sound like your fault."

"Yeah I know." Steel admitted. "I guess it's just one of those, you can't please everypony, scenarios." Steel looked his ruined dummy and back to Star Catcher. He spun one of his swords around and presented it to him, hilt first. "Would you like to give it a whirl?" He asked.

Moon let out a sigh, but hugged Paradox again shortly after. "Everypony has a curse weather its temporary or permanent, but in the end they have to live with it, since its there and it cant go away. Heck, I even know a stallion who lost everything, but he could never build up the courage to die."

Then she let go again to stare at his eyepatch in the water.

"Look. Its not getting in the way of our expedition now, so don't even worry about it. And just maybe it could help out when our journey meets a wall."

@@Dawn Stripes,

"And i'm guessing that wasn't the pony you intended to use it on?" she replied with little tact as she looked over at Cascade. "Still though...better for use on them than you right?" She sat down again, lightly waving her mane back with one hoof "Cascade's...well she's a fighter it seems." Frostbite remarked upon seeing the mare coughing and rolling over "she's still with us for now, i'm no doctor, but I think she'll be alright" she shook her head and stood up "listen, cap, this aint why I came here, for idle talk." Her voice suddenly taking on a more serious tone "Something happened in that pod, something happened to you - and i'm not talking about Ocean."

@@Count Paradox,@,

Feather listened in silence to the exchange. Her heart went out to Paradox -  even if she could never understand, even if the closest she herself had come to such pain was through the eyes of a character in a book - she felt the profoundness of his grief. Unable to think of anything to say, Feather instead leaned slightly closer to both ponies, so that her pelt almost brushed against theirs but without driving the battle saddle into anypony's side, hoping that even if they didn't realise the significance of the gesture - Feather was not really a touchy-feely pony - Moon and Dox would know she was offering her own support.

"Thanks," she whispered to Moon Wave.

Heh, Feather almost chuckled in spite herself. They're kind of cute together...

Giant rolled his eyes. "I meant it's gone," he said. "I used it on Steel Accord and Moon Wave when they were hurt in the attack. There's mostly just gauze in there now, and that won't do any good." He waved the last vehicle over. "I have about half the painkillers if she wants them when she wakes up."

He glared at Frostbite as he listened to the second half of her message. "You don't want to talk about Ocean, that's fine with me. Let's talk about the ocean." He gestured at his escape pod, the emergency shutters still clamped shut down by the waterline. "I don't like it, okay? I said that before. It's...wrong. But I managed to discharge my duty."

"Why don't we talk about what happened to you , as long as you want to bring it up?" Giant twisted his mouth into a grimace as he tried to bring this up in a way that might actually net him some results. "I'm not in a place where I can babysit every pony at once anymore. I need to know that at least some of this crew isn't going to start going ballistic for no reason when I turn around." He raised a hoof, then dropped it, dropping a box at her feet to see if she would help him load "You've now frozen the escape pod, and I can think of no reason why. What's going on with you, Frostbite? If there's something bothering you, I can understand that, but I need to know. We're not safe down here. We have to work together."

Upon hearing a "Thank you." from the pony next to Paradox, she went ahead and replied back just before she stood up.

"Your welcome."

After the attempt of her life to get on all four hooves, she started to walk away, but not after she came across Feather and whispered into her ear.

"If things turn out right, then he's all yours."

"I meant...the first aid kit was supposed to be for you, should you need it, was it not? I didn't think you'd be too happy to have used it on somepony else, but at least you haven't needed it yourself" she shook her head and watched the box drop to her feet, turning her nose up slightly at the thought of actually doing something other than looking busy.

Letting out a deep sigh, followed by a light chuckle as she turned to face the pod, she couldn't help but smile at her work - especially considering she wasn't there to oversee it. "Don't you feel it cap? The humidity in the air...for a place ten thousand leagues under the sea this place is a might warm, don't you think?" she whispered so as nopony else would overhear. "I don't know how long we're going to be here, but i'm gonna need a place to cool off if you expect me to do anything useful on this journey."

She knelt down and lifted the box at her feet - it was surprisingly lighter than what she expected - "besides, it's pretty don't you think?"

(OOC: Remember Frostbite practically has ice in her veins, she's going to be A LOT more sensitive to the heat than most other ponies on this expedition - even if it's not hot, she's going to feel it.)

He's all mine? Feather shook her head, not sure whether to feel indignant, embarrassed or just confused. Paradox was all his own. Besides, Feather wasn't interested in Dox that way...

Forgetting the stallion beside her, Feather grumbled under her breath. "Bucks...mares...why don't they all go buck themselves off a cliff..."

Giant ran a hoof slowly down his face, lifted the package away from Frostbite, and threw it into the back of the truck.

"Wouldn't want you to get too warm...." Giant didn't feel anything particularly warm down here. A few years in a desert tended to make you used to that sort of thing, but he thought he would notice if they encountered the kind of heat that could incapacitate a pony. "Yes. Very pretty."

That settled that question, then. Frostbite couldn't be counted on. Whatever she was--didn't seem terrible dangerous, but not terribly helpful, either. Only half of what came out of her mouth ever made real since; Giant suspected foalhood injury, but that was just a theory. No need to pry.

"I fink, I might 'ave shomefing usheful for you" she said as she opened her pack with her mouth and dunked her head in, moving things around with her muzzle before pulling out a small box, wrapped in paper. "You shed...wait" taking the box out her mouth and putting it on the floor, she continued "you said you used your medical supplies, take some of mine...I have enough. It might not be the best thing for your tastes but it should get the job done." She looked a little confused for a minute, as if she was thinking about something. "Salves...bandages...ointment, there's some other things in there too, I forget what I packed" she laughed as she turned around "Dont worry though, i'm sure we'll be fine."

@@Glaceon,

Giant utterly gave up trying to figure this mare out. Why she hadn't mentioned what she had earlier, while Cascade was in possibly critical condition, was something he wasn't even going to work on. He took a look through the box she'd produced, not being shy about taking what he thought he'd need. No telling if Frostbite would ever use them or on what.

After seeing of there was anything in here for bruising, and repacking his first aid kit, he took a break from loading and went over to Cascade, where she still lie, recovering.

He thought about getting her off the floor, but whoever had looked at her before was probably right that the sand was the softest thing around down here. Giant unscrewed the lid on his salves--a little numbing, a little anti-inflammatory, should do the trick--before gently working some onto the most battered areas of the injured pony. "Conscious?" he mumbled to her as he began to work.

"Uh-heh." Giant looked over at the colt who'd been fussing over Cascade with him--Nightfall, if he remembered the roster correctly--and leaned in to whisper to him for a second. "Cascade's a little shaken. Might be dizzy, could be she had some pretty bad concussins. I want somepony to walk with her when we move again, to make sure she's okay. She might need to be held up on her hooves. And I won't be able to do that while I'm toting a battle saddle. You mind?"

This was some good busywork to take his mind off the iminent threats; survival measures were everyday, mind-numbing work for him, a menial task he could focus on to forget where he was. If this kept up he might actually be able to be calm.

It didn't take long for Frostbite to retire into her usual routine of staying away from the others. She's spoken to one or two ponies, that was enough for her for one day. "Anypony needs me i'll be...somewhere" she mumbled, more to herself than anything, as she climbed into the frozen pod and curled up on one of the seats.
