Roleplays for Characters in Settings

So, for a while I have been wanting to participate in a good ol' fashioned roleplay on MLPf. Yet I have come across a problem which so far has stopped me from doing such.

The roleplaying rules and set-up seems to have missed a point that makes it very difficult for people like myself to participate. This problem is the OC rules.

The system is pretty well structured:

- Find an open Roleplay

- Link to your desired OC

- Wait to be accepted

However, there are those of us who find it much more proper, as well as fun, to create our characters on the spot, for the Roleplay we desire to join. We build our characters from the world we are presented with. We choose to create something that is purely integrated into the story. It feels boring and too usual to use the same character over and over, tweaking only a few points to make the character just able to fit into the story.

I wish to suggest that a new rule be implemented to allow us who choose, to write up our characters to directly present them within the Planning thread. Within spoiler tags of course(because walls of text everywhere suck).

This would simply make it much easier for more people to participate in such Roleplays.

Lastly, even though I have scoured for any indication of such a rule already existing, if such a rule is indeed in place, please point it out.

I agree, I hate to use the same character over and over. That is why when I see a really good RP I want to join, I usually make a whole new character.

I don't think most GMs would mind if you just posted a character like that in the text of the OOC thread. I know I wouldn't care. In my case, I would only request that after I accepted it, that it be copied into the database for reference later... and that a picture be added at some point. Text is great, but adding a picture--even a Pony Creator image is most helpful! happy.png

I understand what your trying to say but I personally don't see why this needs to be an official rule. What's stopping you from just going and creating a new character in the database?

There's nothing stopping you from creating a character within the thread but then it will most likely be lost and not referred to when needed. That's why the database exists for that reason, to provide a centralized and easy to access area of the site for characters to be stored. Granted it probably isn't in the most optimal way but it's better then having a thread for each character, or having characters lost in threads.

I believe this would be why the current rule in place states you need to link to your OC, just so threads aren't cluttered with character profiles and are in a centralized place. it's much easier to link to the profile page then a forum post.

Why does it need to be a rule though?

Just go make a new character and use it in the RP.

I made plenty of OC's I've only used once or twice,, and were made for specific roleplays :3
