For the record, I hardly consider 4chan a source of viable information.

 

I'm not going to really take in any information as remotely true until I see it for myself out of a non-anon who's officially from Hasbro. (Unless I'm missing something here?)

Rumor or not, this makes me feel pretty crummy. I'd very much like to like Equestria Girls, and I even started coming up with some speculations. But then someone comes along, saying they know what's going to happen in the movie/show without solid proof, telling us that MLP is all but doomed. I'm glad I liked season 3 as much as I did considering how bad the pre-broadcast rumors said the changes would be. But for the time being, no matter how much I agree with the logic of all the other posters here, I can't help but feel my hopes have been crushed, and that feeling really sucks.

 

EDIT: The post above made me feel a great deal better than I was just moments ago, but still, the idea that Equestria Girls was the straw that broke Lauren Faust's back is one I'd rather not have. I wish someone could tweet her or something asking if this is true, and odds are someone already has, but I doubt she'll get back to us on that until after it's released. I'd still like to enjoy it, but some of my enthusiasm has now been spent.

So like, I honestly haven't used 4chan in ages but there might be some validity to this. There have been game developers who have been leaking shit to the internet for a looong time now, and if I recall correctly a lot of the people who work at this animation studio are also nerds so I don't find it too off for them to complain about the thing they're making. You know, this reminds me of that time when someone claiming to be a Hasbro employee leaked some lines of dialogue suggesting that

Discord is really Star Swirl the Bearded.

The employee was then fired. The suggested context of the lines were specifically debunked for season 3, and the lines have yet to be used in any broadcast episodes, but there's still the possibility of it being true for future seasons, considering the information was posted around winter time. It's something I'd like to be true, but I think that's feeding into my fears that this rumored information is true as well.

That is literally my worst fear about this project.  That Twilight gets a boyfriend. 

 

I honestly do not understand why the trailer has suddenly made everyone so optimistic.  To me, it looks like everything I was afraid it would be.  Even if the voice actresses and writers have decided to get behind it, it's still about humanized ponies, it's still set in the "real world," and it's still about highschool.

 

If this shady rumor turns out to be true... ugh.  Just ugh.

While the rumor sounds true (with the crappy quality trailer giving away the central gag-worthy plot point and setting), never believe everything you read, especially if there's no confirmation in the source. As of this point, it's just an anonymous user sprouting nonsense. Take what the dude wrote with a grain of salt and wait for the littler details from the movie before you can confirm this.

I was speaking more about outward maturity. 4chan users may seems childish and immature at first glance (some actually are, though), but many are extremely level-headed and knowledgeable in the right situations.

 

Sometimes you can tell when someone is a wizened *chantard, just by the way they speak and act.

 

I've since stopped going to 4chan as often after spending the majority of my internet time there for a few years in a row.

Frankly speaking, I'll believe it when I see it. Internet speculation is notoriously faulty, so I'm not placing much if any stock on some supposed "insider" claiming to know the role of the mysterious boy from the trailer.

 

That being said, I wouldn't be completely surprised if Hasbro went and dropped the ball by forcing some sort of romance into the story. The primary demographic appeal (i.e., tweens) is too strong to ignore.

I'm glad you understand. I completely agree that /mlp/ is probably the most open-minded group as far as the show goes, and is the least hivemindish community.
