Eurovision 2013 - What the serious fudge.

So I'd like to discuss the eurovision with you guys!

Reminder, in the 2nd semi final, which I will focus on in this post, the following countries competed:

Untitled-1_zps88a27fbc.png

But the 2 main performances I want to focus on are Israel and Finland.

Israel:

Finland:

Now my problem with this is that Israel did not make the finals but Finland did. The finnish song is a disgrace to music imo. I think that the only thing that saved finland from crashing and burning is that lesbian kiss at the end of their performance.

What do you think? smile.png

The whole of Eurovision is way too political now anyway, it used to be about just music and if it was good then it got further. But now if your country made some political decisions that the others feel are wrong you suddenly seem to get 0 points or very little.

Mind you I really wanted Moldover to win last time (or was it the time before?).

Yessss Eurovision! <3

*fangasm*

I'm a big fan of the ESC and I watch it every year. I think it's sad how so many people hate it.

Anyways, I'm a happy Swede since we won last time and I think we're doing an excellent job :P

My favorite two songs this year are

Even has someone who as no idea what is going on, that song from Finland was horrible, even the lyrics were a horrific mess that made me cringe.

Didn't TheCruxshadows win Eurovision once(or something similar)?

"You know, I don't know who or what you are Methos, and I know you don't want to hear this, but you did teach me something. You taught me that Life's about change, about learning to accept who you are, good or bad. And I thank you for that."

Eurovision is no longer a fair contest. It's purely a case of the country with the best alliances wins. Song quality unfortunately does not seem to matter any more, just who has the best state relations. The voting system really should be changed so that only the public can vote. The public more often than not will pick the best song, rather than the country thy are allied with. Hopefully they will do so in future years and so make things a bit fairer for the talented artist who actually do a good job!

To everyone: Yeah I agree with you all, but I wanted to discuss this: (video starts playing at the end so you see the point)

(wouldnt embed it O_o)

This won them the semi final. I think its a disgrace that this wins a song competition or even a politics competition and not the entry.

The reason why Finland went to the finals was because it was a cliché in the Eurovision songs. There are certain things in a song that takes it to the next level in the Eurovision. It has the dreadful beat in the background, the topic is love, it's catchy and overall... It's just a eurovision cliché, and that's why it goes to the finals. It happens too often.

I do agree that Israel had a very powerful song, but the one I'm wondering more is why Hungary went to the finals instead of Israel... Even tho they had hipster-Adele as a singer.

I just see this song as very dull and monotone, and "Hipsters-got-the-idea-to-go-Eurovision-because-it's-soooo-hipster"... I'd rather have Israel than that. But I don't see Finland's as a disgrace - it's just cliché. biggrin.png

And why is the lesbian kiss so important that you had to link it...? I don't see anything wrong with it...

Yeah I was joking that hungary sent a hipster to sing hipster music in a non hipster competition XD

and I think you'd want to watch my last posted video, that explains why they got into the finals

Nope, I don't think that it's the lesbian kiss that got Finland in the finals. It was just the generic Eurovision song. OFC the kiss was a publicity stunt, but I think it would've gone to the finals anyway.

I see your point but I dont think thats it. well thats your opinion and I respect it. img-1473009-1-biggrin.png

Still, I read lots of reviews of this thing (apparently im not the only one in Israel who thought this was weird) and they all think the song was vomit inducing and the kiss saved it.

Oh and another thing, I wanted to vote for latvia, because of 2 reasons:

a. The song was pretty fun and happy

b. "And may the force be with you all!" -Dont need to add anything.

c. Is that the first time someone crowd surfs in the eurovision?

Sadly my country's cell phone system was overloaded and I couldnt vote :C

The song is generic eurovision song-vomit. And every year, there are at least five songs that are a part of this generic eurovision song-vomit. Since nowadays the eurovision is judged half by judges and half by the votes, not everything gets through. I don't think that the judges thought too much about the kiss (maybe said "Daring", or something, but not more) but more of the catchiness of the song. On the voting, the other hand, is something I can't know - I just don't believe that a simple lesbian kiss could save any song.

Or at least save enough to bring it to the finals, at least. There aren't that many lesbian fans who're watching the eurovisions, you know.

I have a friend in the voting counting part of the eurovision so I get live updates of the voting, so here is a little leak (Hopefully this wont get me jailed or something XD):

Finland got absolutely horrific scores from the judges (expected) BUT, got quadrillions of votes from viewers. like 60% went to finland alone.

Eurovision is such a weird thing, I never bothered following it cause the music hardly interests me.

Interestingly, it's always one of those things that slap me in the face when it is there, I can never remember to see it or when it is.

Maybe because most people have no idea what the Israel's song is about, while finnish song is so straight forward, cliché and catchy that an average human being will have it stuck in their head for a while. Even i have to admit it is catchy and to be honest i am glad its not "finnish", because real finnish music sucks more than this generic "thing". My mp3 player has no "finnish" music. Sim Gretina and TeiThePony might be finnish but their music certainly isn't.

But yeah, i guess people could take music taste "more seriously", but since when have people been serious about most things?

Now, here comes the problem of the internet - you never know if the other person's telling the truth. I don't believe that they are allowed to tell such things or that even people who are in the voting counting part know all the points. After all, almost all of them are calculated by the computers, and the ones watching that the votes go as they should are usually the ones in the highest positions - and they wouldn't leak. And after all, you mentioned you're from Israel - so now I'm pretty much thinking that you know someone israeli who sees the isreali votes, not the others... How would you know a Swedish vote counter?

Somehow I just can't trust this... Sorry ^^

Yeah I understand, The internet is a place for lies, but as for the counting of votes, yes computers do it but then staff review it to see it went correctly, thats why we have the eurovision manager saying "everything is okay" part, since they check the votes are true and were correctly calculated.

Oh and another thing, I think latvia deserved the final (but not the win of the finals, this isnt really a first place song tbh) for being real entertainers. not ceremonial singers, but actual entertainment. Just look at how they act and perform:

hint: "first stage dive in eurovision history! comes from lativa!"

I am sad now :(

Seriously, I didnt even realize that Finland could spit up this shitty music, but this at Eurovision??? *Facepalm*

Only time something good has chosen from Finland was Lordi. I remember one year there was tons of good music coming, and the band which was selected, had few good ones, no, select that shitty song... Sigh... When they learn...

Yeah lordi was awesome XD.

The really weird thing is I've gone to 4chan (yes, I survived), around 9 more forums except this one and talked to my overseas friends, everyone voted at least once to Israel. Everyone wanted Israel in the final (and San Marino). I really dont know what happened there.

Eurovision as a whole is a complete joke. Back in the 60's and 70's, it was talent that got recognized and got the points. Nowadays, it's shady backroom deals that get the points. It's a shame that this contest is ruined by political shenanigans.

As a Finn myself, I can safely say that Krista's song is the best song Finland has had in the contest ever since Lordi. Why is this? Because it's a cliché ESC-song! I don't think the kiss had anything to do with the way the voting went. Just that the song was catchy and ESC-like. I'm really glad Krista did the kiss, though. It's a nice little nudge to the political debate that's going on in Finland right now. :P

Problem with ESC: intraeuropean show-off, where most songs are in english ( i like english, but we have so many languages that are good to sing in...)

I cant understand how you can like that song. It's bad. Maybe it is ok for "universal" song, but I don't think it works with Eurovision well, or at least should not...

Also, people from Finland, Brohoof? /)  ^.^

But I didn't say I "like" the song, I just said it's better as a ESC-song than anything Finland has had after Lordi. I don't think I need to remind you of Kuunkuiskaajat or Teräsbetoni XD I actually liked Paradise Oskar, but it just wasn't an ESC song :P

yeah its an ESC-song, but I hoped that I wasnt the only one who was bleeding after hearing the song. But lets say the competition was purely for music, NO COUNTRIES, no nothing, who would you like to win? I personally would see Israel winning, that one is just incredible singing. that girl has talent.
