searching As I Lay Dying: Requiem for a Princess [1/6]

She hadn't been seen for a long time, and there was talk. Rumors that she had been called out to fight some great war with the power only the reagent of the sun can possibly wield. Other rumors were darker, more frightening. Magic gone terribly wrong. A plague, an assassin. Her sister denied such rumors vehemently, though she was also curiously often absent despite the occasional public appearance. At least she appeared sometimes. The princess never appeared at all.

 

You possibly questioned it at first, possibly question it to this day. A few, perhaps yourself included, questioned how the celestial bodies continued to move despite their sovereigns' disappearance. Most of the populace grudgingly moved on however, concern for their eldest reagent shifting under the weight of mundane necessity. The two Princes, one married and one wife-less, took control of the throne, and life moved on. You included, until they came.

 

Royal guards needed your presence urgently. The two Princesses, night and day, had requested your presence. You're possibly shocked. They had been gone for almost a year now, and to suddenly personally reach out to you... You're possibly confused. You may never have even spoken to the Princesses before, much less given them reason to need you. You probably asked why. And they said:

 

"Princess Celestia is dying, and she wishes to see you."

So this is an RP about Princess Celestia dying. And then stuff happens thereafter. 

 

A total of six characters are summoned to the Princesses bedside and in their exchange with her, she imparts each of them with bits and pieces of what makes her 'Princess Celestia'. Her personality, her memories, her loves, her hates, and so on. This singular action leads the six, along with the mourning Princesses Luna and Cadence, onto an epic journey through lands long forgotten to Equestrian ponies on a deceptively simple task: the burial of Celestia.

 

This RP will be an action-adventure, emphasis on 'adventure'. Character development of everyone involved takes precedence over gratuitous fight scenes. Both canon and OC characters are acceptable for the band. The only thing I need to see from applicants is an RP example with the character you want to use. I'm looking carefully for writing quality here, you don't have to be a novelist or anything, but at the very least proper sentence structure and some sense of writing style is necessary. Once accepted you will be assigned some aspect of Celestia that your character is given later in the RP. It starts vague and ill-definied, but over the course of the adventure will grow.

"A soft knock at the rickety wooden door of an abandon shed broke the still of the night. Displeased with the disturbance, Shame opens the door in a huff, demanding the meaning of the interruption.

'A letter, sir. To be delivered to a mister... F-... Fowl-... Fauli-'

'Yes, yes, give it here.' He grumbles, swiping the scroll from the messenger's hoof. He turns over the delicate, slightly aged paper, the unmistakeable mark of the princesses adorning the seal. Without another word to the messenger, he turns and closes the door behind him, making way to a desk, illuminated by dim candlelight where he opened the scroll and read carefully the caligraphy that covered it.

'Faulinei,' It read, rather gloomily it continued. "Tragedy has befallen Equestria. It is with great melancholly that I deliver the news of my sister's passing. It has been a long time coming, many already assume, but you are among 8 who know for sure. Is letter is what some may call an 'invitation' to Canterlot Castle, where you will meet with these others and we shall all decide on what must be done. She has spoken of you in her dying words, Faulinei, she needs your help now.' That was all. Short yet powerful, spadish words that took a grip on the remnants of Shame's heart. He needed no more, nodding upon full recognition of Luna's signature at the bottom of the parchment. He quickly incinerated the letter before throwing on his robe and heading out the door. There were far more important things to take care of than rest, it was time to serve the land on which he walked, and to serve a princess he had only just begun to know."

Alright. Well this is going to be blunt, none of you are accepted. 

 

Shame and Klein, you both have acceptable samples but I'm not enthused with the backstories of your characters. They both invoke external forces that are going to mess up the plotline as I have it developing. It's alright to have dramatic backstories, that I don't mind. But empires beyond Equestria's borders? Ancient cults? Problematic. Don't involve the Princesses if you can help it, I'd rather be working with complete strangers than anybody who has any level of familiarity with my characters.

 

Dishonored, the writing's just a bit dull, I want to see a little more detail and character voice. And again, avoid knowing the Princesses.

 

Sorry if any of this seems demanding, it's just that, well, I'm very demanding as a GM.

Trust me, I've had WAY more demanding GMs, it's quite alright!
And besides, it's an alterable storyline, I met Celestia once in an RP a long time ago, but it never finished, so I probably shouldn't have even added that bit xD

On the topic of external forces? The cult is gone and he hasn't left Equestria since the princesses came to power, and I rarely include his backstory in games unless it's for simple dialogue, and never in great detail, so no need to worry~! ^^

Oh, it's quite alright then. I doubt I can do what Shame did in altering his storyline, since Kreinbathur's background obviously would play a major role in the way he is portrayed and changing it would mess up a year of development for him...

Shame's magic comes from himself so besides his cloak acting like the carpet from Aladdin, there's nothing that even mentions the cult! (The robe is a banner that was torn from the wall and enchanted, on the inside it has the clan's mark)
