"I apologize," He said letting go of the stallion. "You'll have to forgive, but I really don't appreciate others following me. Anyways, I'm Dogboots and this here is Cuppie Cake. It's nice to meet you" He continued, putting his hoof out to shake with Curiosity.

 

Dogboots eyed Curiosity up and down. He looked harmless, but seemed more like an intellectual at first glance.

Curious let out a nervous chuckle after being let go by Dogboots. "I really have to find a better way of confronting ponies."

 

Curious readjusted his scarf and looked at the two ponies for the fist time up close. "Let's see, Dogboots here seems to be a rough, hard working guy. He also seems to be quite protective, probably because of... Cuppie Cake, was it? Why does that name seem vaguely familiar?"

 

Curious noticed Dogboots had put out a hoof to shake, and reciprocated the gesture. "Nice to meet you, Dogboots. I do apologize for my behavior, I have had a hectic morning and thought I would have a bit of fun to relieve some stress."

 

"Cuppie Cake... Cup Cake... Cake... Cake? As in the Cakes? From Ponyville? I mean, it could just be a coincidence, but if she is from Ponyville, I wonder if she knew my Aunt?"

 

Curious glanced from Dogboots to the small mare, "So, what's with you two? Are you his younger sister or something?"

Cuppie trotted over to where the stallions were standing glancing at Curious curiously standing next to Dogboots. She was a little upset about not getting the warburos but this was much more interesting she wanted to know what this pony wanted and why he was following them.

She was taken aback, "s-sister?!" Bursting out into laughter at the thought, "I don't know Dogboots what do you say are we siblings?" She whiped the tears from the corner of both her eyes still laughing a bit.

"Ummm, not quite," He said scratching his mane. The stallion had no idea how to inform this stallion that she was more than a friend.

 

"Well you see, we're not siblings it's just- ummm i'm sorry, you look like you have something else on your mind. Is something bugging you?" He asked Curious, in an attempt at misdirection.

Sometimes it didn't pay to not make one's presence known and listen in on conversations...

 

Windy stood stock still in the kitchen, trying to take in even and steady breaths. Fumbling around, he pulled out the biggest, wickedest blade he could find. Not that it would do him any good. If those mares wanted him dead, he'd be lucky to get a nick on one of them before he was going up to the great soccer pitch in the sky. "Well, I knew this apartment was too good to be true. Those mares must be behind that death note for Curious! They'll kill him, then kill be because of guilt by association! I don't DO guilt by association! Add to the fact that my mare is a fillyfooler... Add to the fact that she was hitting on Curious and gave him a bucking wingboner! The verdict? She DOES think I'm an expendable colt toy, a plaything! She wouldn't have any qualms about killing a plaything of hers! And to think I thought I really liked her... I just need to get out of here! Now! Just spread my wings and fly out the window! No that wouldn't work, they have magic. They'd stop me... The door? Too far... I don't know!"

 

A very loud *ding* interrupted Windy's train of thought. The waffles he had made were done. The mares had heard the ding too, that Windy was sure of. His eyes contracted in fear. They'd kill him right here in this kitchen for what he had overheard! He would at least face his imminent death with a shard of dignity, he decided. Taking a deep breath, he stepped out of the kitchen into the living room. "So, who wants breakfast?" He asked as bravely as he could, but his knees were knocking in fear, his eyes were tiny pinpricks in his head, and he was very... twitchy.

 

"buckbuckbuckbuckbuckbuckbuckbuck!"

'if Vinyl thinks shes going to make me go back, she has another thing coming'

"oh, thanks Windy"

Mystic sat at the table and ate her breakfast

'I wanted to be far away from my old life as possible, why does it follow me'

She noticed Windy completely shaken

"so I guess you heard our little conversation. I assure you I'm no longer one of them, you may not believe me, but its true, I dont want to hurt anypony anymore"

"So they aren't siblings! That leads credence to her being from Ponyville! The cakes never had an earth pony foal, if I remember correctly,"  Curious mentally noted, "though, I still have no idea what's with these two. It's not that big a deal, but why would Dogboots be protective of this little filly if they aren't siblings?"

 

"Idiot, that 'filly' is a mare! They're a couple!" Mindy scolded, "How can you be so dense sometimes?"

 

"Oh, I guess that makes some sense. Wait... if you're a figment of my imagination, why'd you call me an idiot?"

 

Curious then noticed that Dogboots was looking at him expectantly. "Oh right, um. Let's see... I was just thinking..."

 

"My love-life really isn't their concern, and it would be weird to ask them personal questions to satisfy my intrigue. Got to bring up some common ground, this Dogboots fellow seems to have come here looking for work. And he did work for those fisherponies for quite a while."

 

"I really need to find a job! How about you?"

"You and me both pal," He said with a sigh. Both him and Curious were looking for work though, Dogboots was more of a manual laborer than somepony who would sit behind a desk. 

 

"I'm hoping to find some regular work, I enjoy doing work that's physical and can get my hooves dirty," He added with a little bit of a nervous laugh at the end.

"Great! I'll make it my first official case since I got here to find you a job!" Curious smiled broadly. "And I have a perfect idea for a job for you! And that's to find me a case!"

 

Curious stared blankly, just realizing that plan was entirely circular would accomplish nothing, and then brought hoof to face.

 

"On second thought, let's not do that," he said with a sheepish grin.

 

"Ah, what do? I'm just making a foal of myself, interrupting these two's date, Mystic must be wondering what I am doing at a time like this, my apartment's still a mess, and I missed breakfast!"

"Well if you want, you're more than welcome to join me and Cuppie. We we're actually out looking to get myself a job. Maybe you'll find one along with us," He offered the red pegasi. There was something about him that seemed familiar to the earth pony though.

Windy continued to sit stiff and still, not wanting to make any sudden moves. "Windy, they aren't dinosaurs, they can still see you if you move! Good point, you're probably right brain... So what DO I do?!

 

"You two may have quit, but you're still... Killers! Hitponies for hire! I mean, both of you could just kill me right here with anything on this table without breaking a sweat or a nail! How am I supposed to react to something like that?! And Vinyl, how the hay are you an assassin? I mean, your mark... Its a musical note! You said last night that its because you're good with music... You were lying, weren't you?"

She frowned when Dogboots didn't admit to them being together and bit her lower lip wondering if he was embarresed of her. But quickly hid the expression when Dogboots turned to her with a question, "oh yes I'd love that." She flapped her wings in exitement she made another friend at this rate she'd be settled in this city in no time. "Where should we start?"

"Well, how bout we continue to wander around the marketplace. Who knows, we might find something of interest," He said before the group continued to move on.

 

"Way to go. What? You made it look like you and Cuppie aren't together. I didn't mean to. Well you need to make it up to her. How? Figure it out yourself," 

 

Dogboots soon began to feel guilty for ignoring Cuppie. He wasn't used to being in a relationship before. He soon felt a bit glum but attempted to hide it with a fake smile.

Curious recognized that the smile Dogboots put on was insincere, for it was the kind of smile had put on himself on more than one occasion. "He's probably stressed about the fact he avoided the subject about his relationship," Curious deduced, "I ought to say something to him, since I put him in that situation"

 

Curious moved closer to Dogboots, and whispered,  "I feel for you, fish boat gu—" Curious realized he had just let his tongue slip. "Dogboots. I have no idea what to do in a relationship either."

 

"Hope he didn't notice that, he would probably get mad if he found out I hitched a ride he seemingly had to work hard for..."

Not even with high level magic." Vinyl reached out her hoof and put it on top of one of his. "So stop worrying. Please, there's no reason for it anymore."

Taking a deep breath and trying to bring his breathing back under control, Windy reached out his free hoof and clutched Vinyl's hoof. After several more breaths, he nodded and looked her in the eye. "Ok, I trust you Vinyl. If you had wanted to hurt me, you had plenty of opportunities last night. Although I do have one question. You mentioned how you fooled around with Mystic here, so are you gonna just keep doing that, or do you want to commit to me? I just don't want to be used like I have been in the past." He said, glancing at Mystic briefly, before looking back at Vinyl. "Because even though you didn't tell me about your job... I can see why you didn't want to, and I guess I can accept that. I really do like you, it was just... scary to learn that."

Mystic watched the couple quietly until she got up from the chair

"excuse me, I have to go find Curious"

she trotted over to the balcony and dived off it, only to land safely in a bush on the ground. she climbed up her 'view point' as she called it and quickly scoped across the city. she noticed a market at the hub of the city and decided to look there. a few minutes of walking around the market until she found him talking to a couple

"Curious!"

she charged up to him and accidentally hug-tackled him to the ground, blushing heavily after

After a moment of silence, Windy leaned in and kissed Vinyl lightly on the cheek and nodded. After a few moments of silence, however, a cheeky smile came over him, and he quipped, "Ah, actually that depends. Will you let me know if you do ever plan to hook up with her again and allow me to get in on that action?" He said, waggling his eyebrows stupidly.

 

"Wow... talk about tempting fate in the extreme..."

"Hey, this is only tangentially related, but you totally know, if I had the opportunity I would have a three way with Vinyl and Mystic, right?" The little Windy in Curious' head told him.

 

But before his mind could travel further down that disturbing thought, or before he could get a response from Dogboots, he found himself tackled to the ground.

 

"Is that our signature move now? Not that I am complaining, but if we are going to continually tackle each other, perhaps I should invest in a helmet." He said, letting out the hearty laughter he seemed to reserve for Mystic.

When rhe beauriful mare introduced herself as Mystic she chimmed in, " and IIIIIIIIIII'm Cuppie Cake, nice to meet you." She made a huge arc with her hoof when drawing out the word "I'm" before pointing to her chest as if to put emphasis on who she was. She was taught that first impressions were important and you have to make ponies remember you Cuppie just had a different way of doing things.

"Anyway, I'm going for a little mid-morning stroll. I'll leave you to your thoughts... And your hoof." She stepped out onto the balcony, then jumped from rooftop to rooftop for a while before she came upon the alleyway that Curious, Mystic, and two other ponies were standing in. She observed them for a moment before dropping down. "Hey, you two. Who're your friends?"

Windy frowned as he watched Vinyl's receding flank vanishing over the rooftops. "And there she goes... And what the hay did she mean to leave me alone with my thoughts and my HOOF?! I wouldn't stoop to such low levels! I mean, I just went at it with her three times just last night! What kind of depraved animal does she take me for? Sheesh..." Trotting into the kitchen, he cleaned up the dirty dishes from the breakfast, which was top notch even by his standards. Grabbing the death threat note directed at Curious, Windy stuffed it under his mattress. Nopony had to know about that just yet. Walking back over to his saddlebags, he bag unpacking the things he hadn't gotten to the day before. Pulling out a small package marked 'To Windy' that was a parting gift from his best bro friend Fondue Reef, (or BBF for short)  Windy opened it, and found... a bag full of kush and a note: "Have fun brah. See you again soon!". "Seriously Reef?!" Windy said in frustration, and tossed the bag back into his saddlebags with a roll of the eyes. "I have two deadly mares and a detective who has somepony out for his hide all in close proximity to me, the last thing I need is to be baked... Plus I doubt Vinyl would appreciate me being stoned when she came back." 

 

Tossing himself on his bed, Windy sighed in exasperation and boredom. Eventually he remembered Vinyl's parting words. Looking at his hoof, he shrugged, muttering, "Eh, why not?"
