Cuppie gasped, another completely gorgious mare was this place crawling with them?! She waved a hoof at Vinyl sheepishly then took a look at her flour covered hoof and quickly put it down smiling apologetically. Then she looked down at her slightly messt mane and her boring cutie mark her dumb boring feathered wings and then her stupid bangs alwats covering her left eye, it seemed even in this new town she had to keep secrets.

Then she looked up at the two stunningly beautiful unicorns, UNICORNS! That could do magic how was she going to compete with that?! It was bad enough that Dogboots was already embarressed of her he probably thought she was just a kid or something. Well whatever he thought before now she paled in comparison of these two. She decided to stay quiet the rest of the time go back to the bakery as soon as possible and work non stop until she had to leave.

Vinyl turned to the mare to greet her and her eyes widened as she took a better look at Cuppie Cake. "Oh my Luna! You are so absolutely gorgeous! Not to mention completely adorable." She looked over at Dogboots for a second, then back to Cuppie. "Your coltfriend is very lucky to have you." She leaned in and whispered in her ear, "I know I would snatch you right up. That is, if I wasn't taken already."

"It's nice to meet you Mystic, I'm Dogboots," He said shaking the mare's hoof. The stallion soon noticed that there definitely something wrong with Cuppie.

"Would you kindly pardon us?" He said taking Cuppie to the side and out of earshot from Mystic and Curious.

"What's wrong?" He asked. There was a look of worry in the stallions eyes.

Her mouth dropped. Everything Vinyl was saying went against everything she was thinking how could any of it be true then when the mare whispered to her she nearly fainted. "My barn door doesn't swing that way," is what she wanted to say it was something she had heard one of Auntie Pinkies friends say...which one was it.....Apple Sack?

But before she could figure out who had said it and speak the words for herself Dogboots pulled her aside and inquired whar was wrong. What do you mean what's wrong everythings wrong I can't even remember a stupid name for pinies sake! Calm down Cuppie this is your chance go for it, "um... I think Flor Dust will be worried about me by now so I have to go back to the bakery." ....and never come back Iiut again.

"She's lying. Thank you brain!"

The stallion began to ponder what to do next and then without warning, Dogboots had kissed Cuppie but with a little more passion than usual.

"I apologize for not saying that you aren't my marefriend. Besides, I'm not embarrased to be with you at all because, you mean a lot to me. Though if you have to get going then, I understand," He frowned at Cuppie having to leave. Truth was the earth pony had feelings for the mare and he was willing to convey them more openly.

Stunned she just stood there for a minute staring blankly at nothing then the smile began small at first but soon it rook up her whole face and her wings spang out with pride and happiness. Forgetting everything in just one amazing kiss and she shook her head vigorously still smiling brightly. "No that's ok we can just go now ill just go back another time im sure it'll be fine we should just go find you and Curious a job before it's too late and all the jobs are taken so we should go now!" The worda were tumbling out of her but she didn't care everything truely was going to be ok.

"I'm sure Curious will find one now that he has some...company with him. Besides, i'd rather be with you to find one than have some competition," He grinned after gesturing towards Curious. The stallion wanted to get a job before the pegasi, but more importantly, he wanted to spend time with Cuppie Cake.

"So, what do you say?"

Nodding with much enthusiasm she turned back to the group skipping toward them past them ahead of them and straight towards the docks, "shall we get a move on then c'mon what are we waiting for let's go!"

Caution and worry were back in the allyway now shrivveled up and nearly nonexistant and shrinking further, and care had already disappeared leaving Cuppie without a care in the world.

Curious had a look of disappointment and guilt on his face after Dogboots and Cuppie Cake had excused themselves. "Aw, I wanted to talk to them a bit longer. I suppose that can wait till later, though."

He picked himself up off the ground and looked at the two mares who had unexpectedly joined him in the market. "Sorry about just bailing like that, I kind of got distracted... and I wanted to relieve some stress with a bit of fun."

Curious then mentally face hoofed, upon remembering that his typical definition of "fun" was quite different from some other pony's in his company.

@@slimmyjimjim,

Dogboots followed the mare like a dog following its owner ((Hah pun!)) leaving Curious and Mystic behind. The two made their way towards the docks and began looking for up and down the stores that decorated the docks. Though the stallion was content with just being with Cuppie Cake.

A bit of time had passed before the stallion noticed a help wanted sign outside one of the booths. A gruff looking earth pony sat behind the booth that was selling lobster and due to there being only a few left on sale, it clearly meant that this business was quite successful.

"Interested? All you have to do is maintain the booth and make sure you make sales and count the bits. Besides, you look more like a workhorse so, you can also help unload the ship and stock the lobster," He said eyeing Dogboots up and down. The earth pony's attire definitely was a clear indicator that he was a work horse.

"Well...something's better than nothing,"

"Yeah, I'll take the position. What are the hours?" He asked in a curious tone.

"9 to 5, weekends only. We need time to stock up during the week, but i'll need you here early saturday morning to help unload the product. Is that alright?"

"Yeah, that's fine by me," He replied with a little enthusiasm in his voice.

"Good, Welcome aboard son! The name Fish Net, nice to meet you,"

"Dogboots, nice to meet you too sir," He said shaking the gruff stallion's hooves.

The couple soon began to walk off with a smile on his face and Cuppie Cake next to him. The earth pony felt good now though a little nervous but it came with every job that he got.

"Talk about lucky eh?" He said to Cuppie Cake.

"Are you sure you can handle it I mean no offence but you don't seem like the socializing type to me." She remembered back to when they had first met at how shy and awkward he had been and smiled at the memory. And even just today the way they had met Curious of course that wasn't Dogboots' fault however she was worried by how he would go about selling lobster, "have ever even sold things before I hear it's really hard."

She bit her lower lip thinking about her own job and felt bad for ditching on her first day. I'll go soon but not yet just a little bit longer.

Curious pondered for a moment, tapping his hoof on his chin. "Now what kind of job could I find here in which my investigative skills could be put to use? I intend on establishing a sort of office eventually, but I need employment just to get some bits before I can do that."

As the small group of ponies were trotting through the market place, Curious noticed a stand with newspapers, and a flash of inspiration came to him. "Of course! I can become an investigative journalist! Just need to find the offices for this paper and get a job there, at least temporarily."

Curious turned around to the two mares, smiling broadly. "And hey! You two must be needing bits too, right? I am sure ponies with your set of skills can be applied to journalism."

Curious's gaze settled on Vinyl, and his smile lessened but he let out a chuckle anyway, "Though, I figure you must be working on your musical career, right?"

Waking up and yawning, Windy rolled out of bed and stretched, arching his back and working out some kinks. Realizing that none of the others had gotten back, Windy frowned slightly. "I feel really left out... Well, might as well go out and look for a job, I've gotta find a way to pay for my share of the rent on this place. Soccer isn't really an option after that career ending injury, so what should I do... Athletic trainer maybe? Hm... Or maybe something financial. I always was decent with stocks, and I do have an Associates Degree in economics... Maybe I can get a job somewhere in a brokerage or something!" Spreading his wings and taking off into the sky, Windy headed for the downtown financial area. Touching down, he began looking around for businesses looking to hire. Finding a medium-sized business dealing in real estate with a help wanted sign on the door, he walked in. The secretary looked up at with a bored look on her face, "May I help you sir?" "Yeah, I saw your help wanted sign, and I was looking for a job." "Address?"

Something odd happened when he told her his address, however. Her eyes widened and she made him repeat it one more time. Looking at him in a much more alert way, she asked, "Your name is Windy Runner, is it not?" "Yeah, it is! You've heard of me?" Standing up, the secretary ushered Windy down a hallway and up a flight of stairs, and left him at a door marked "Founder/C.E.O.

Knocking on the door cautiously, Windy heard a chipper voice from inside, "Come in Windy! I've been expecting you."

Walking inside, Windy arched his eyebrows. Sitting behind a very large desk was one of the most handsome ponies Windy had ever seen. Casually handsome, leaning back in his chair and puffing on a cigar, this pony looked like the Equestrian Dream incarnate. Turning towards Windy and grinding out his cigar in a gold dish, the stallion smiled warmly and extended a perfectly manicured hoof to Windy. "Good day Windy. Allow me to introduce myself. I'm Stock Margins, and I run this whole company. Now, this is a nice surprise. You see, I was going to send one of my people to find you, but you've saved me the trouble and stumbled into my office ahead of schedule. Now, do you have any idea why I might have wanted to find you son?"

Windy gaped, trying to form coherent sentences. This stallion was simply overwhelming. His perfectly tailored suit, his perfectly relaxed attitude, his mane, his perfectly cultured but still confident attitude... everything about this pony sang to Windy as perfect. "Ah, I have no idea at all man, uh, I mean, Mr. Margins. Why DID you want to get a hold of me? It can't be because of my soccer ability, because those days are behind me now."

"Oh no Windy, I would have no need for your soccer talents, admirable as they are, here at  Real Sydneigh Co. No, I had you recommended to me by one of my old Fraternity buddies, who says you worked for him over a summer. He said you're a hard worker, and that you've got a good head for business up there underneath all that conditioner and mane care product. He also knew you were moving down under, and called ahead to tell me you were an employee worth hiring."

"Uh, wow! This is, very flattering sir. I'd love to work for your company, I mean, you're certainly a successful pony. An admirable stallion, to be sure! To work for you would be an honor. But sir, I have barely any business related credentials to my name. I barely scraped together enough credits at Cloudsdale Community College for an Associates Degree! How do you think I'd succeed here?"

Standing up from his desk and walking around to stand behind Windy, Margins put a hoof on Windy's shoulder in a fatherly sort of way. "Windy, I know you are doubting yourself. I used to be unsure too. But I saw you walk in, and I saw a little of myself in you. Oh sure, we are different ponies, that is a given. But at our hearts, you and I? We are the same. We are both talented, handsome stallions looking to get ahead in life. We both have a lot of natural talent and most everything came easy to us. I did my homework on you: The only reason you didn't excel in school was not for lack of smarts, but lack of motivation. I will give you the motivation you need to unlock your potential, to be all you can be. I can take you under my metaphorical wing, so to speak, and groom you to be a better you. I'll teach you how to make it in high class society, and how to find genuine happiness. You are better than you think you are Windy. You're far superior to your peers, and its time that you took your rightful place as an elite stallion." Stepping around to face Windy face to face, Margins stuck out a hoof. "No contract needed Windy. All you have to do is give the word and I'll take you in at this company. I will train you, and make you the envy of all Equestria!"

Stunned speechless by Margins' smooth and calming voice, Windy nodded mutely. Upon doing so, Margins clapped him on the back firmly and laughed. "Good colt! I'll see you back in here tomorrow morning! And don't worry about clothes, I have a good eye for sizes, there will be several suits waiting for you in your new office room. Until tomorrow Windy!" He said kindly, escorting Windy to the door, and walking him down to the exit.

Flapping his wings and flying back to his flat with a folder full of information about his new job, Windy was practically bursting with excitement. "Wow! Five minutes of job searching and I land the best job in town with the best boss a colt could ask for! This is gonna be great! Wait 'till I tell Vinyl and Curious about this! And he's so nice... I can't let him down! I have to be 'superior' like he said!"

Watching Windy fly away out his window, Margins poured himself a glass of cognac, chuckling at how well his meeting had been. "That was easier than even I expected... The dense headed soccer putz really only needed a bit of sweet talk and he was eating out of my hoof. I'm glad the file I pulled on him included teacher reports on his arrogance... Playing to his ego was the easiest thing in the world. And once I have him seeing things MY way, then I'll turn him against that worthless roommate of his. Ah Curious, you won't need enemies when you have friends like Windy..."

Letting out a acidic chuckle, Margins drained the rest of his drink and sat back down to resume his work. Time was on his side for once, and he had learned from past mistakes that patience is a virtue...

"Though, I do wonder what kind of proper job could use the skills of a soccer player. Probably just some retail job or something that doesn't require much in the way of qualifications."

"Anyways, I guess I'll go in and make my application." Curious said, walking into the office building of the Sydneigh Herald.

He went up to the front desk, "Hello, I would like to apply for a job as an investigative journalist."

The secretary looked up for a moment at Curious, and then nonchalantly looked away. "We're not hiring right now."

A small pout placed itself on Curious' face, "But, you don't even know my qualifications! I am really quite good, I ensure you. Certainly somepony of my skill could be used here."

"Sorry, sir. We are not hiring right now," the secretary said without facing him.

"But—"

"Not hiring."

((hopefully that's alright. Don't mean to godmod, but incidental NPCs are fine, right?))

Seeing Curious walking out a building below him, Windy swooped down and landed right in front of him dramatically. "Hey man! Not to sound hella creepy, but I looked down and saw you coming out of that building there, and I thought I might as well drop in!" Windy said, chuckling at his lame pun. "And guess who just scored himself a big fat juicy high rolling job at a major real estate company?? That's right, this stallion! Windy Runner is going cooperate! I wonder how dapper I'll look in a suit..." he said, his eyes glazing over with a picture of himself looking just as cool as Stock Margins. "Oh, and get this! No interview, nuthin! The boss just hired me on the spot because of some sweet recommendation he got on me from a friend, and the fact that he thinks I've got chops! So how about you Curious, how's the job hunt going? You gonna be a journalist?" He asked, gesturing at the building Curious had just left.

"Now wasn't that just a bit odd," Curious thought to himself as he left the building for the Sydneigh Herald. "I mean, I can understand not actively hiring, but most places still let you fill out an application for later."

His thoughts were interrupted when Windy dropped down and started to brag about his fancy new job. "That... that is definitely odd. Were they desperate to fill in a position there or something?"

"Actually, no, it doesn't seem like I will be, Windy. I couldn't even get hold of an application. I'll have to look else where." Curious looked up at the sky. "It's getting a little late for today, though, so I'll resume my search tomorrow."

Curious turned his head to Mystic, "What about about you, dear? You going to go find a gym about now? I'll be heading home, so I will see you later tonight, alright?" He pecked her on her cheek.

Patting Curious sympathetically on the shoulder, Windy tried to cheer him up, "Hey, Curious, don't worry about it. You'll get a job! Maybe I can put in a word to my new boss, he could probably find you something to do, what with how big of a company he has... And don't worry yourself about rent, until you get a job, my new salary will more than cover our cost of living, like, three times over. So there's no rush! Chin up bro! Look on the bright side, you've got a beautiful mare on your hoof, that's not something most employed stallions can claim!"

Turning to Vinyl, Windy wrapped his wing around her, waggling his eyebrows happily. "Oh man, Vinyl, we are gonna be living the good life, you and I! Screw fiscal responsibility, we are gonna have a grand 'ol time with my cash! I don't know about you, but I'm looking forward to it! Better get used to seeing me in a suit, sweetie, cuz this stallion has gone cooperate!" Kissing her briefly on the lips, he turned and trotted off to catch up with Curious. Looking back over his shoulder, he called out, "Hey, after you two are done job hunting, you should swing by Curious and my place for some grub! I'm cooking quiche!"

Trotting off and catching up to Curious, Windy asked, "So, you heading back to the apartment too?"
