"Me, " Scarlet pointed a hoof towards her chest proudly, "I am Trace, Scarlet Trace. Just call me Scarlet, though." she put her hoof back on the ground. "You've met my brother, I assume; odd fellow, he is." Scarlet craned her neck back in the direction she had left the others, and turned back to Dogboots and pointed a hoof at him, "Just met Cuppie, she seemed so distressed. I don't know what happened between you two recently, but she really needs to see you."

"She needs to see me? Where is she now?" He asked with a little urgency in his voice. Maybe she did feel the same way about him but couldn't tell him. It was only a hunch but it bought his spirits up a little bit. He needed to hear the words out of her though to know if the feelings he shared for her were mutual.

Scarlet turned her body to face in the direction she figured Cuppie was, "She should still be at the harbor, come on, follow me!" and without hesitation, Scarlet started to canter down back to the harbor.

 

"ha ha! Success! Well, I don't know what will happen when they actually meet back up, but I did my part!"

"At the harbor? Why would she be at the- no. Is she leaving? Was it my fault? No! I can't let her leave, not without seeing her!" He said before following the pegasi.

 

"She wouldn't leave just because of what I said right? I mean there has to be more to it than that," He thought while galloping towards the harbor.

Sheshook her head, "I'm really sorry but I gotta go the ferri leaves in a few minutes ans the next one doesn't come for another hour," she hugged each of them and thanked them trotting in the direction of the harbor smiling when she saw a small steam boat with colors similar to the ones on the ticket. She got on just as the sailors were untieing the ropes that held the vessel to thw dock. She settled down at the back of the boat facing the city she started thinking about everything that had happened and as the boat started pulling away her tears began to fall.

Dogboots made haste to get to the harbor. For all he knew, Cuppie could have already left by now but even if she did the stallion still had to see her. The earth pony finally made it to the harbor and began searching the docks up and down looking for Cuppie, she was no where in sight. He looked out towards the ocean and saw a few boats leaving. There was a mare looking back at the city but it was difficult to see who it was. Dogboots ran towards the edge of the dock to get a better view and sure enough, it was Cuppie Cake. A look of of grief was plastered all over the stallion's face.

 

"Cuppie!" He shouted extending his hoof out, trying to reach he but couldn't. Tears began to well up in the colt's eyes all while blaming himself.

 

"Please, don't leave," He said to himself as the boat began to go further and further away from Sydneigh. Dogboots was on the verge of just breaking down and sobbing.

Her head snapped up at the sound of her name being called when she saw Dogboots the tears fell down her cheeks even more but her smile was spread across her face from ear to ear. She put her front hooves on the edge of the boat yelling, "Dogboots!" She balenced herself on the edge and brought her hind legs up, "I'm so sorry!" Her front hooves slipped over the egde of the boat her upper body dropping as she opened up her wings spreading them out and gliding over the water. The tears streamed down her dace as she tackled him to the ground in a huge hug half laughing half sobbing.

"I'm so sorry, I may not love you now but I care about you too much to just leave. I keep trying to find a place that I can call home but I can't look anywhere else...because you're my home."

Dogboots was tackled to the ground again like last time when he had visited her at the hospital. He felt warmth in his heart after hearing Cuppie say that about him. The earth pony smiled back at Cuppie and wrapped his hooves around her before kissing her passionately.

 

"Cuppie, you're the only reason that I would stay in this city. Without you, life wouldn't be the same. I'm so sorry for upsetting you," He said trying to hold back his tears.

This was the happiest mom moment in her entire life and then she looked around remembering that they were still in public and laughed wiping the tears away with her hooves. She stood up looking down at Dogboots she said, "I'm not going anywhere so let's just go home."

Cuppie knew that she'd have to go back to the bakery and tell Flour Dust and Volt and Mistic and Curious and everypony she had met in this city, HER city the place where she belonged but all of rhat was far away now right now she was with her Dogboots and she didn't want anything else in the world.

 

(And that's how you tell a love story)

"Yeah, let's go home," He said leading the mare back to his shabby apartment. The walk there was peaceful and uneventful but the stallion didn't seem to really notice. His attention was fixated on Cuppie still and was happy to be with her.

 

"You got off lucky," The inner voice in his head had said, chiding him for his previous actions.

Mystic stood watching with the group, she let out a slight

"awwwwwwww. that right there, is a love story for the books. pure fairy tale material"

she cuddled up close to Curious

"wouldn't you agree, sweetie?"

Mystic turned to Vinyl with a sudden feel of Curiosity

"when does Windy finish work?"

Letting out a sigh she layed her head on Dogboots' shoulde speaking softly, "has it really only been a day? It feels like years."

The sun hung low in the sky when Cuppie pulled the covers off of Dogboots' bed laying them neatly on the floor laying down on it exhausted. But she didn't want to sleep yet, not yet she wanted to savor this moment and hold onto it for just a bit longer. She beckoned to Dogboots to lay down with her smiling a small smile her eyes glazed over.

Dogboots threw off his boots and laid down right next to Cuppie while looking out the window at the sunset. It was a beautiful sight and he was happy to be sharing it with Cuppie.

 

"Yeah, I know what you mean. Still, this is nice. Watching the sunset and being next to you, I can't remember the last time that i've ever felt like this," He said looking out in the distance.

Dogboots threw off his boots and laid down right next to Cuppie while looking out the window at the sunset. It was a beautiful sight and he was happy to be sharing it with Cuppie.

 

"Yeah, I know what you mean. Still, this is nice. Watching the sunset and being next to you, I can't remember the last time that i've ever felt like this," He said looking out in the distance.

His face was so simple yet complex at the same time it was likewatching waves break on the sand, such a simple movement but with so much detail. Cuppie slipped herself between his fore legs nuzzling against his chest relishing in his warmthm, his words were the butter that melted on the muffin that was her heart.

Suddenly she sat up and leaned over grabning his boots placing one on each hoof. Cuppie held out her front hooves in front of her waving the boots around in midair trying to get a feel for them.

The stallion smiled at her when she tried on his boots. It was cute in a way, though the stallion was curious why she was trying them.

 

"I think they're a little too big for you," He laughed when she waved his boots in the air. The earth pony continued to watch Cuppie play around.

Windy yawned and stretched, leaning back in his chair. He'd gone through all the files Mr. Margins had requested, and even though it wasn't time to leave yet, Windy decided to leave. Standing up, he gathered his things and smiled. "What good is being the stallion's protege if I can't skip out of work early? Although that was way more bearable than I expected. I don't know if I'll be saying that in a few years, but whatever.... I'll think of something. And maybe I'll be able to con Mr. Margins into giving me a huge share of the company so I can cash out and retire at the ripe old age of twenty two! Windy, that's dishonest and unethical! So? So?! Mr. Margins is giving you a great opportunity, despite your dubious qualifications, and you're already thinking of how to scam the stallion out of his company!? What kind of jerk are you?! Ok, ok, I get it brain, I'll not think about that anymore. I was just letting my imagination run a bit wild, you know?"

 

Pushing open the window from his office and spreading his wings to fly, Windy paused, wondering if he should change out of his suit first. Shaking his head, he decided against it and flew off, deciding Vinyl would like to see him looking fitted in a suit. As he flew out of the office, he stopped and hovered in midair, wondering if he should go home or somewhere else. However, near the shipyards, Windy spied a familiar looking group of ponies. Flying over and touching down, he walked up behind them, just in time to hear Mystic wonder when he was getting off of work. Grinning cheesily, he spoke up, saying, "Well, maybe I'm wrong, but I think that'd be about now. I decided to let myself go early today, I earned it! And how are you guys doing?"

"Hey, who's this guy?" Scarlet asked, landing down and pointing a hoof at Windy.

Vinyl smiled and put her hooves around Windy. "He's my coltfriend," she replied to Scarlet. "And he looks really good in a suit. So how was your first day, sweetie?" Vinyl moved next to, and slightly behind, Windy and winked at Scarlet. "Did you have a good time or was it boring?"

Smiling, Windy leaned into Vinyl a bit. "Wasn't half bad actually. Mr. Margins really seems to like me, he didn't give me a whole lot to do. Even sent up a congratulatory cake for me. I mean, sure, it was a bit boring. But I have my own office and everything, so I don't have much to complain about!" lowering his voice significantly, he whispered, "I'll show you my office sometime Vinyl. Feel free to drop in anytime you want..." Turning to glance at the newcomer, he thought for a moment before chuckling, "Alright, I don't even know you, and I just know, you HAVE to be related to Curious somehow, you're like a mare version of him!"

"Who, her? I never met this mare before in my life, she just broke into Mystic's apartment this morning and has been tagging along since." Curious said, chuckling, before insisting, "and we look nothing alike! Her coat clearly has a far more orange tint. My own is far more crimson."

 

"And if anything, he would just be the stallion version of me," Scarlet piped in, "anyways, it's a pleasure to meet you; I am indeed Curious's elder sister, Scarlet. So, you... you're a successful business pony, eh? Curious could learn a thing or two from you, then."

A frown planted itself on Cuppies face as she wiggled her hooves around in his boots, "I don't get it why don't they fit your hooves aren't that much bigger than mine."

She took her hoof out of one boot and put her hoof inside his own seeing thay his was much bigger than hers, "oh..." was the only thing she could say before kissing him.

Dogboots laughed a little only to be interrupted by Cuppie kissing him. There was something about her kisses that made the stallion keep coming back to her. He soon returned the favor and began french kissing Cuppie, it wasn't long before the earth pony began to hold her more intimately.

she giggled at her statement, it was true, looking down from the buildings made the best map

"oh dear, maybe we should get some lunch first"
