"But, I can change it if you want me to," He added. Dogboots wasn't really one to look at it, in fact he was out of his own element. The earth pony wasn't quite used to a bustling city like Sydneigh.

Cuppie Cake shook her head, "no that's quite alright where do you wanna go?" 

This time she flew down the stairs talking about cruise lines and how you have to know which ones to go on or you'll be stuck on a crappy cruise, all of which she had learned from Cook and the difference between a cream puff and an eclair and how if you don't bake them just right you end up not having any room to put the filling. And be the time they were out the door and down the street she was already on the topic of warburos.

Dogboots listened to Cuppie Cake talk about her previous experience as a baker and making other pastries as well as the differences between two dishes.

 

"Wow, you really know a lot about baking. I'd actually like to try it sometime," He said to Cuppie Cake

 

"Speaking of which, do you want to go somewhere to eat? I could use a bite and would rather eat something other than spam," He laughed out loud a little. Making fun of his way of living.

"oh yes please, but i don't know any restaurants around here a wonder what kinds of places there are ooh i hope they have Italian because I really love Italian it's just so different not a lot of ponies have herd of it but it's really good." she trotted up at off the signs of the shops but didn't see any restaurants.

"I'm familiar with Italian though I've never heard of it before. Anyways, I remember seeing a line up of restaurants over that way," He said pointing in the other direction.

 

The stallion had led the mare down a few blocks to the north before they finally came upon a some restaurants. The variety they had there was just as much as Canterlot. There was multiple restaurants that made foreign food. It took the stallion a while to find an Italian themed restaurant.

 

"After you," He said opening the door for Cuppie Cake. The restaurant definitely had a very good vibe which was something the stallion had hoped for.

"ooh what a fancy restaurant," they were seated and a unicorn came to take their order, "may I take your order?"

Looking at the menu she said, "Oh, give me a minute, you go first." she waved a hoof at Dogboots studying the menu like there was going to be a test. "Hrrrmmm."

"Oh! umm well I guess I'll have an order of some spaghetti and may I get an appetizer of breadsticks? Also, I'll just have water to drink," He said finishing up his order.

 

"Oh man spaghetti really sounds good right now. Haven't had it in years since I was a filly!" He thought to himself.

 

The waiter wrote down the earth pony's order and then soon turned towards Cuppie Cake. "Your order ma'am?" He asked in a polite tone.

"Well, its a pleasure to meet you Mystic Dawn. And again, don't worry about me, I'm a soccer player! We get laid out way worse than this on a daily basis!" Turning to take in the view, Windy whistled in amazement. "Wow. It is quite a view we've got here. Curious and I just moved in here, we're roommates in a place a few floors down. How long have you been staying in Sydneigh Mystic?"

"oh, not long at all, Only today I moved here. I'm originally from Ponyville in Equestria, I thought that moving down here, I could probably turn my life around, be friendly for once"

Mystic noticed Curious with a worried expression on his face

"are you ok? you havent spoken at all. or are you just one of them strong silent types?"

Curious snapped out of his stupor when Windy whistled. "Huh, oh right. What happened here? Right, Windy is just introducing us to this... Mystic Dawn, was it? Well we don't seem to be in danger at least. But is really making small talk with this mare, did he not notice her mark?"

 

Curious shook his head slightly, somehow it didn't surprise him that detail would slip by Windy. Still, it caused him a bit of worry that she was being so casual about this whole mess. Curious decided he would let Mystic answer Windy's question before interjecting.

Cuppie frowned, "Oh well then I guess I'll just have what he's having." Muttering under her breath she said. "In Ponyville they always let my have desert first."

The waiter wrote down the orfer and left taking the menus with him.

Leaning across the table she said, "sowhat's woth the boot you got somw kinda hoof condition or something? You don't have to answer if you don't want I'm just asking."

Vinyl woke up a few hours later, after the sun had begun to set, and started to head out. She did her mane, put on some makeup, and got dressed, then left. After just a few minutes of walking, she reached the underground, then scanned her My Multi card and took the rail into the city and started walking around.

Mystic took note of the sunset and decided she might go out in town for the night

"I don't know about you guys, but I'm thinking of going into town tonight, explore some of the city, have some fun. we can talk later, you're only a couple floors down"

she happily trotted inside and began to make herself look pretty for her night in the city, she put on a dress, she really wasn't used to wearing these things. She headed downstairs to the lobby and then realised, she could try and spot someplace without hours of walking around the city, she found a tall building and hoped nobody was watching before she began to climb up the buildings wall.on the roof of the building, she had a decent view of the whole city. there was only one place that caught her eye, a nightclub that looked like it was just opening and it wasn't too far away. Mystic quickly jumped off the roof and landed into a bush before brushing herself off and heading to the club

Curious brought a hoof to face after Mystic excused herself. "What's wrong with you, mister? Talking isn't something hard, you talk to your clients, random strangers on the street looking for intel, and you even held a conversation with your new flatmate—" Curious was about to bring hoof to face upon remembering that Windy was still by him, but was unable to, and instead brought hoof off face. "Oh horse-feathers, he'll never let me live that down. I have to make the best of this situation, though!"

 

Curious cleared his throat and turned to Windy. "Right, well, that was terribly embarrassing, on your part that is. I mean really, I do hope you will at least have the courtesy to pay for the property damage you caused."

"Well, when you're traveling all of Equestria, then traveling by hoof can begin to get uncomfortable, so I decided to wear boots instead. They're much more comfy, for me at least," He laughed a little.

 

"So, what got you into baking? Like how did you get started in it and when did you realize you had a talent for it?" He asked the mare.

Windy bristled at Curious's comment. "Property damage? If I managed to make a dent in that balcony, then I'm seriously worried about the state of my head dude! That thing is solid concrete! Any damage I did to it it did back a hundredfold! Whatever, its cool. And I've had much more embarrassing happen to me. Like this one time, at a party, a mare dumped a bunch of chip dip and a bowl of punch on my head! Ah, good times... Oddly enough, we wound up going out for a time after that." Shaking his head, Windy brought his train of thought back into the station. "Oh, and sorry about that square attitude I was rocking when Mystic was right there. I've learned from bad experiences that mares want a stallion who can go three words without saying 'dude' or 'bro'. They want class, so I learned how to have manners."

 

Pausing for a moment to pull a bit of rock from the balcony out of his mane, Windy turned a quizzical eye towards Curious. "But what was up with you dude? You like, froze up big time! You were nervous, weren't you? And don't be afraid to tell me. You weren't laughing at those lame manners I had around Mystic, so I won't laugh for you choking. Happens to everypony."

Curious chuckled at the mention of Windy having proper manners, "Figures he would try to put on that act just for some tail. Ah, what it would be like for him to actually have to deal with nobility and the upper crust of Canterlot society as I have done on occasion." 

 

Curious's muscles relaxed a bit upon Windy affirming that he wouldn't be laughing at him, and that he actually showed some genuine concern. "Okay, fine, I was nervous! But, I mean, I had a good reason to be. After all if it was just under typical circumstances, I could have even looked her in the eye and told her that I was a dragon. No, there was something... off."

 

"I probably shouldn't tell him about her mark. He doesn't need to be involved if I can help it. Though that's not helped by the fact that she's practically our neighbor and invited us to chat together sometime."

"Something 'off', huh? Maybe she's foreign. You know, from Saddle Arabia or somewhere like that. Hasn't learned how to act casual and natural yet, so she seems 'off'. Who knows? Anyways man, I'm gonna go hit the town for a while, check out the bar scene maybe. I'll be back to the apartment at a decent time, and I'll probably cook something for us. Sin carne, as promised! My patatas y arroz is muy rico! You don't want to miss that! I'll see you later man, peace! And don't worry about choking bro, next time you see her, just picture me hitting the wall behind her or something, and your nerves will be gone! Buenas tardes Curious!" With a mock salute, Windy spread his wings and flew away, headed towards the city center. 

 

Touching down much more gracefully than he had on first arriving in the city, Windy looked around. The club scene was just getting underway as the sun went down, with natural sunlight giving way to artificial, multicolored rave lights. Windy gaped happily at all the mares he saw. However, he was so busy rubber necking that he didn't pay heed to where he was walking. Turning at the last moment, Windy couldn't stop before colliding hard with something... or somepony. Stumbling backwards, he looked to see what he had hit. What he saw made him want to facehoof super hard, for he had managed to rudely crash into the prettiest mare he had seen since he landed in downtown. With a blush beginning to stain his cheeks red, Windy offered a hoof to help the mare up, saying apologetically, "I'm so sorry! I wasn't looking where I was going, too busy taking in all the sights. I didn't mean to hit you!" As an afterthought, he added, "I'm Windy, by the way. Windy Runner."

"Oh that? Well I guess it's the family business I always knew that I was going to get into some sort of cooking my whole family tried teaching me how to bake. But my deserts always ended up tasting bad or burt to a crisp no matter what I did. I tried everything and nothing worked looking back I suppose it was because I was so short that I could never see the counter anyway one day I was talking to my Auntie Pinkie and she told me that you arent suposed to conform to your talent you're suposed to form your talent around you so I cleaned my whole kitchen from top to bottom and made a batch of cupcakes on my kitchen floor which I know sounds gross but it worked for me as a kid. And as I got older I grew up and was able to reach the counter. So what about you?"

Despite himself, Curious couldn't help but give Windy a mock salute in return when he had left. "He certainly is a nice fellow, perhaps he is starting to grow on me. After all, might as well get along with the pony you're going to be living in the company of for the foreseeable future."

 

"Now, onto the matter at hoof," Curious said to no one in particular. He started to pace back and forth about the balcony he was still on. He looked at the window, leading into Mystic's apartment. "I... I could just sneak in, find evidence to assuage or confirm my fears. I mean, it wouldn't be the first time I've broken into someplace while on a case."

 

Curious shook his head. "No, no I couldn't do that. I wouldn't forgive myself if I just started to invade a pony's privacy if it's nothing serious, no reasonable cause. And besides, what if she found out... Regardless, if I want to actually try to learn something about this Mystic Dawn, if I can trust her to not slit any throats, I should take the most direct route and talk to her."

 

Curious stopped his pacing and looked over the balcony's railing. "Right, of course, no big deal, just leap and fly off, no big deal." He stepped back wards a bit, and started to run towards the edge of the balcony. He leaped over the railing, and closed his eyes as his wings unfurled. "Just let your wings do their thing, glide gently down." 

 

Curious let out a sigh of relief as he felt his hooves touch upon the ground. "Now, I shouldn't let Mystic come talk on her own terms, not with Windy around to get involved. She looks fairly distinctive, shouldn't be too hard to track her down." Curious readjusted his scarf, and set out towards the streets.

 

He asked the occasional pony he passed by, noting that she'd probably be wearing a red dress. He eventually passed by an Italian restaurant and looked in the window to see that peculiar earth pony he saw on board the fishing ship, and he was with a mare, or was it a filly? "Odd, he didn't come here with anypony, at least not that I saw. He must be here visiting his little sister or cousin or something."

 

Curious eventually determined that Mystic Dawn was going to a new night club that had just opened up. He quickly made sure his mane and tail were nice and clean, that his feathers were properly preened, and that his scarf was on straight. He hadn't thought to get dressed for the occasion, but he figured he could slip in to the club if he had to.

 

((Okay, that came out a lot longer that I intended. nearing 2000 characters. I hope it wasn't tl;dr))

She looked him over, top to bottom, then said, "Well are you going to buy me a drink, or what?"

Windy blinked in surprise and confusion; mares weren't supposed to be this forward and obvious about ANYthing! They were supposed to be cryptic and impossible to understand! Already, Windy felt this was a mare he could get along with. Still at a loss for words, he finally found his tongue again, "Uh, yeah sure! For sure! But, this is kinda weird... Most mares I've met haven't been so... upfront. Oh well, I can deal with upfront! And although I got distracted, you're much cuter than the 'sights', but I'm sure you've been told that a million times over." Windy said slyly. Walking towards the nearest good looking bar, Windy held the door open for Vinyl. Sitting down at the bar, he turned to her and asked, "So, what do you think is the best thing they've got here? I mean, I am always up for a nice cider, but maybe they got something better... Something... stronger."

Dogboots soon looked down at the floor ashamed after Cuppie had asked him that question. The stallion didn't like discussing his cutie mark or rather what happened to it.

 

"Ummm, I'd rather not talk about it, if that's okay with you," He said looking away from the mare.

She puffed out her cheeks frowning before letting in, "oh ok."

The waiter brought their food and relight the two candles at their table which had gone out durinf their discussion. Cuppie went for a bread stick dipping it into the spaghetti saude before eating it. Clearing her throat she said, "so what do you want to talk about?"

"Sorry," He said, apologizing to the mare. The stallion didn't tell anypony what happened or even talk about his cutie mark.

 

"Well, what made you move here to Sydneigh? I mean, don't you miss it back in Equestria?" He asked the mare who began to dig in. Dogboots soon began twirling his fork the spaghetti before eating a small portion of it.

"Hah I haven't been in Equestria in a long time...it's just the ponies there are to nicey nicey ya know? It's like they have to be nice or else and I don't like that I like it when people are nice because they want to be not because they have to be so I just kinda left. I guess you could say I'm exploring that's how I like to think about it but I guess now that I think about it I'm also kind of running away....but anyway enough about me what about you?"

"I don't know, after traveling all across Equestria, I met some really nice ponies. However, I just couldn't stand what was happening there. Every time I bring up my opinion of Celestia, i'm always ostracized and shamed. I mean, I get that there needs to be a position of authority, but it just- it just wasn't for me. So, I decided to leave. I met a captain who was in charge of a small fishing vessel. We negotiated a price and he would eventually take me here. Which actually took much longer than usual due to their fishing shipments, but I helped them out with it and then after a few weeks, he took me here. I just arrived today so, yeah I guess this is a fresh start for me," He explained to Cuppie Cake. In a way, it seemed like both we're trying to get away from something.
