He looks a bit sad, or melancholy. I could see that even when he was flying.

*lands beside Lyona* "What do you need to talk about?" he asked. The movement of the train was making him feel uneasy. "I don't like trains much...." he admitted. ".I prefer the sky. It's where I belong."

" What's wrong? I could see that something is wrong, so don't try to deny it. Is it... About Cinder?" She asked quietly. " They're in the other part of the train, so they can't hear you or me. "

Cinder paced up and down the train: she didn't really want to go back to Canterlot but Lyona had said that they should. Something about debriefing: Cinder didn't see why they needed to be debriefed - she had practically forgotten what the original briefing had been.

 

'What am I supposed to do?' She thought, stopping to look out of the window. 'Well, you could try being honest with yourself...'

 

She stomped a hoof on the ground in anger and confusion.

Epilogue - Redwave.

 

- Kullic - Saddle Arabia.

 

 

The scorching sand felt pleasant beneath his hooves as Redwave stepped confidently from the Dawn Dreamer. He would normally have soaked in the sights and sounds of the port town, have met with some of the locals he knew, maybe tried to find some new drink he could not pronounce...

 

"Bright, where is Bardic? I need to see him urgently..."

 

...

 

He had always disliked the Bards home: it was dark, claustrophobic and thick a thick, heady inscence filled the air. The half-breed was a decent sort though, and could answer questions about almost anything.

 

"You were right to seek me, my friend." The tall unicorn said as he lifted the gemstone up into the light. "I have heard of these: this is a heartstone. They are created when one fights the changes in themselves that cannot be prevented."

 

Turning the stone in the light, it's colors twinkled brilliantly.

 

"It's color tells me something of how it came to be. Much of the stone is a simple Ruby: your heart holds little modesty."

 

Red grinned to himself slightly. Of course it was: he was all but perfect.

 

"This dark area, the centre, is an invader. A corruption that seeks you. See the tendrils?"

 

Probably something to do with the wolf.

 

"But the curious thing: there is a layer between the two. So fine it is almost unseen. An Emerald green seperates them, keeps them apart: though I know little enough to say what this may mean, my friend. Keep this with you, always."

 

Red stared at the stone blankly.

 

"... It means that I have made a most terrible mistake. Thank you, my friend. I must take my leave. Will you be joining me on my retire voyage, when we are prepared?"

Minty became more miserable every second that passed by on the train. "My only friends.. Never to be seen again.. Especially Redwave.." Tears welled up in Minty's eyes as the train skidded to a stop.

Looking at the train come to a complete stop at the train station in Canterlot, as the conductor tells us that it was the last stop. '' Well, I don't know where the others are but I just that my friends are safe and sound. They might as well be at the castle, waiting for me.'' Walking out of the train, trotting up to the Canterlot castle.

"Its just that, the two mares who mean the most to me... I wish I knew what happened to Derpy. As fr as we know she's still in some other dimension with that strange looking brony creature or she could be completely gone forever. and Cinder, I think she just told Minty that no, she's not interested in me. It's ok. I'm use it. Most mares laugh at me when I ask them out. I just hope the Princess sends me on another mission soon so I can get my mind off this."

 

Silver had something in his hoof. It was an empty vial. One of Cinders.

 

He felt the train come to a stop.

I do hope that everypony will stay in touch. I'll just write their addresses down somewhere.

'' Well, guys now that we're on our way up to go see the princesses in the castle. I just want to say, that I've enjoyed going on this entire mission with you guys and I can honestly say that without each and every one of you I wouldn't still be alive. So, thank you.'' Walking out of the train, looking up at the castle.

Cinder trudged off the train as it ground to a halt, glancing around for her companions. Catching sight of them, she trotted up, not getting too close: she wast busy talking to her own thoughts.

 

'What are you so afraid of? You've said it once already!'

 

She winced at her own memory. It was clumsy, stupid...

 

'True?'

 

Impossible. It was stupid. She wasn't like that. She didn't do that. Why was this so difficult? Cinder would have given anything right then to just go back into the forest for a rematch with the reality warper. He had seemed a lot easier to overcome than her own emotions.

"What .... you think I can just walk up to her and ask her? It was different in the forest. I thought we were all going to die... I can't just... blurt some thing out!"

 

"Yeah yeah yeah, the princess is waiting for us" he thought. "If only my princess was waiting for me."

 

Silver spotted Cinderblock just ahead of him. He trotted to catch up with her.

 

"Hey Cinder, now that we're back, there's something I want to show you... It won't take long and we can catch up to the others. Come with me a sec...?" He waited to see if she would just laugh at him.

"What...?" Cinders head whipped around at the sound of Silvers voice. It was the last thing she had been expecting, something had been keeping him unusually quiet since they left the forest.

 

'How does he keep doing that?' She wondered: twice in the same day he had seemingly appeared from nowhere at possibly the most embarrassing moment possible. At least she hadn't been talking out loud this time.

 

"Uhm, Sure! Whats up?" She said shakily, not quite certain why speaking normally suddenly seemed like such a difficult trial.

Silver noticed her jump "I didn't mean to startle you. I just wanted to show you my favorite place in Canterlot's palace. Its just a few hoof steps from here.... but you don't have to come see if it you'd rather not." His voice trailed off and his ears dropped slightly. "You probably want to get this over with so you can go home."

'Close enough...' The voice said: even her own thoughts sounded like they felt sorry for her.

Minty watched the others as she trotted towards the castle. "Well, here goes.. Off to see the Princess, but never see the rest of this group ever again. Spread out to different areas of Equestria to guard.. I hope the others will be okay." Minty paused at the castle doors and sighed. She took a deep breath, and pushed open the doors.

'' I'm going to miss my friends so much. But, I have two choices either get to that castle and never see my friends again or stay here and go on more adventures together. Decisions, decisions.'' Putting her hoof to her chin, wondering about what's going to happen next.

 

Trotting up to the castle doors, opening the doors wide.

"Nyeh!" It wasn't so much of an answer as a vaguely self-aware squeak. 'Use real words!' Her mind shouted angrily. "I'd love to! To go... with you! To the place!" She blurted out, wondering if it was possible to mentally facehoof. 'Close enough...' The voice said: even her own thoughts sounded like they felt sorry for her.

 

"Ok..." Silver took in a deep breath hoping it would give him some more confidence. "This way...." He led Cinderblock into the castle and to a large open room with large windows and columns all around. In the center of the room was....

 

 

 

"I ummm.... play more than woodwinds" He said nervously. "Just that this one isn't that portable... but I learnt piano before trumpets and flute. There's room on the bench for two... " Silver walked over and sat at the piano leaving room for her if she decided to sit with him. His tail trailed out behind the bench. He played a few notes, getting the feel for it. "It's been a while..." He said. "But it's in tune."

 

"I can't tell her how I feel in words" he thought, "but I can tell her in a song. It's the best way to communicate"

 

Silver began to play and sing, getting lost in the song at times, and at other times gazing over at Cinderbock. The piano's magical quality added to the music and echoed through the room.

 

 

[The Elusive Cinder 1,328]

From inside the castle, four guards in full plate armour strode out, standing to attention with varying levels of discipline. The centre most approached the pony nearest, saluting.

 

"You will enter one by one." explained one of the guards, seemingly not noticing the fact the Silver and Cinder had left the group already. "This way please miss." He said, turning to Minty.

 

He marched into the first room of the castle, little more than an entrance hall, and stopped. Instead of opening the way to the throne room, he led her to the side of the room. Waving unprofessionally at the two of the others, he dismissed them before nodding silently to the third and leaving himself.

 

The last guards leaned against one of the towering supports.

 

"I most certainly hope you did not think that you could be rid of me so easily?" He said in a cocky tone, removing the helmet in what he dearly hoped was a dramatic surprise.

 

 

"My deepest apologies Minty, I made a terrible mistake in not speaking before I took my leave, I was foolish!"

'What is... Oh...'

 

She placed herself beside him, watching the piano, listening. Wishing that she could have had the nerve... Or the ability... To do something like that. Something so beautiful...

 

"I..." She stalled.

 

'You're on your own for this one Cinder. Don't mess it up!'

 

She struggled to find her voice.

 

"Silver, I meant it. What I said in the forest? I didn't know. Didn't understand. I still don't but... it doesn't scare me any more."

 

Well, they were mostly coherent sentences so far: that had to count for something.

 

"I don't want to be on my own any more: and I don't just want anypony with me..." She winced: she must sound absolutely ridiculous right now: trying to talk to him and sounding like a blushing filly with a crush.

Silver sat silently listening to her voice. He felt a stirring deep inside him. "I always was too emotional" he thought to himself. He wasn't really sure what to make of what she was saying. Was she trying to tell him that HE was that special somepony? There was one way to find out. "I'll probably get slapped for this but..." The courage he had gained from his song rose up in him. With out saying another word, he pulled Cinder towards him and kissed her long and slow on the lips wrapping his hooves around her neck and tangling them up in her mane.

"Redwave!?" Minty smiled as big as she could, and hugged Redwave as tight as she could. "I can't believe you're actually here!"

Minty finally calmed down. "It's okay.. I'm just so happy that you're here..!"

The 'guards' watched the events unfold from across the room for a moment before returning to the rest of the group.

"Yeah... So. We might not actually be guards. You can head in whenever you like." Said scribe, as he took off the helmet.

 

 

"Of course I returned, did you truly doubt me?" Red grinned as he squeezed the mare tightly. "There was something that required my most urgent attention: but that is over, for now."

'Oh! Kissing...? '

 

It was a whole new sensation for Cinder: like the feeling she got when words failed her but in a good way... She froze up completely for a moment - unsure what she was supposed to do - before wrapping her forelegs around the dappled Pegasus.

 

It took her thoughts some time to catch up but she didn't care: they didn't make any sense right then anyway and there was only one thing in her mind.

Lyona opened the door to the piano room, and was about to say something when she noticed the two. She slowly went back out, closing the door silently.

 

Well I just run into ponies at the wrong moment. Lyona thought, trotting away as quietly as she could. I'll leave them be for a few minutes  They do need to breathe, right?

Minty blushed. She actually did doubt the fact that Redwave will come back.. "We should get going to see Princess Celestia.." Minty said gently. "Well, unless you want to stay this way, of course.. I'd hate to force you to do anything."

"Of course, it seems that some of our companions are making there way there..."

 

Redwave bowed his head and made an overly flourishing motion towards the door at the far end of the room. "Shall we? I would hate to make you late for such a momentous occasion..."

 

He grinned at the pegasus pony and nodded. "Do not fret, I shall be right beside you: no more vanishing acts - on my word."

Lyona walked into the hallway where Minty and Redwave were. " We'll have to wait for Cinder and Silver first. They're rather... Preoccupied. Yes, very preoccupied. I can't interrupt them. I'm sure they're not going to take too long though, so no worries. Be back in a sec."

 

With a flap of her wings, Lyona was gone again.
