midnight watched the creatures run up the steps, "the armored ones must be the unsaveable ones..." he looked up the hole, "no, i need you to stay up there with fen and keep looking around.." he called back, "arianna and i will find another way up, theres a staircase here that might help." he looked back at the armored creatures that the barrels had knocked out.

"hmm...could sure used the protection right now..i can still use my bow but my wing is really annoying me" he shook his head and turned back trotting toward the stairs when the one he was staring at started to glow, it started to slowly get to its tentacles.

Klarix shuddered at the pure darkness of the creatures mind as she continued to speak directly to its Inner Voice.

Go to sleep, and do not awaken again until you hear my voice. she directed, vaguely registering Lume's presence at her side and Nexus's reappearance. She remained perfectly still in order to keep her focus. Close you eyes. Let it all fade...

Lume just waited for an enemy to make a move, growling back at them whenever she had the chance to. Now that she was fully aware of the surroundings, letting her partners get hurt again would only happen over her corpse. She heard the noise when the two demons hit the ground, dead, revealing Nexus behind them.

 

"Sorry to keep you all waiting."

 

She grinned back at him. "Don't worry, you haven't missed much." He looked fine now despite the odd patch covering his left eye, but she decided to disregard asking about it for the time being. They had bigger trouble to get away from. A considerable amount of demons still menacingly stared at the group. Lume thought about the situation for a few seconds. Looking over at Klarix, it appeared that she was fully concentrated on hypnotizing the big demon from earlier, and was not moving at all. When she did come up with a plan, she turned to the bat pony. "Nexus, I will protect Klarix. See if you can fly up and take them out from behind."

 

After that, a drooling demon took a step forward from the crowd and puffed up its chest. The earth mare got up on her hind legs and tried to block the imminent attack with the pair of shields attached to her fore legs, and the creature flung a high-speed spit of goo towards her. As it hit one of the shields, a hissing noise could be heard from it. When she looked down, the goo was literally melting the armor, slowly opening a hole in it. Lume immediately took it off and threw it on the ground, where it continued to deteriorate until it was just a pile of smoking rust. If she hadn't got rid of it fast enough, that substance could have caused some serious damage when in contact with the skin.

 

"Um... Guys?... You might wanna take extra careful. Some of these things shoot acid." She said as she glared down at the stain mark on the floor that used to be the shield.

Nexus looked over the situation, and noticed a large amount of demons. Fighting would be a little tougher with the loss of his left peripheral, but he should adjust quickly. He was about to formulate a plan when he heard Lume.

 

 

 

"Nexus, I will protect Klarix. See if you can fly up and take them out from behind."

 

"Acknowledged." Nexus was surprised at his marefriend's quick thinking, but was impressed all the same. He was so used to taking lead that it was nice to get a break. He flew up, drawing out his short swords from their gauntlets, the Inquisitor insignia crafted into them, and he dived down, tripping two more demons, before flipping mid air and landing, bringing both blades down on them.

 

"Sweet Celestia, I am getting better at this." He said to himself, grinning at his blades. He looked over to Lume to see her ripping of armor that was melting on her. He then saw a demon that was shooting acid. And it was gearing up for another shot. Nexus shot forward and stabbed his right sword into it's gut, quicker than he knew himself capable of. The demon immediatlely halted the attack, and looked at Nexus with the usual shock that decorated somepony that was about to die.

 

"No you don't you pezzo di merda." The hunter slashed with his left sword, cutting the demons head clean off, and he finished by kicking the thing off his blade. It leaked acid all over his chestplate and swords, and he was getting ready to rip it off, but noticed it wasn't corroding. The enchantments on his gear was keeping this dark acid from corroding through. He looked over to Lume, and saw her shield and the armor covering her forelegs was gone. He took a defensive position around his companions.

 

He channeled electricity into his blades, with as much intensity as he could. They glowed blue, electricity arcing violently, and in fact arcing to the floor, surrounding the hunter. The sound was pronounced, and overall gave him a powerful, if not intimidating appearance. One could swear that his good eye glowed blue as well.

The demon that Klarix was hypnotizing roared loudly before tripping over a large desk and falling over it backwards. It didn't get up after that.

 

The party finds itself with five demons- about two more that spit acid, and three more that unsheathed wicked looking claws. One went for Nexus, one went for Klarix, and one went for Lume. The two acid spitting ones shot at both Nexus and Lume. A clawed demon took a swing at Nexus- and promptly found itself electrocuted. It recoiled as growled loudly as it started to circle around you. However, the strike did temporarily disrupt the magic, and the channeled electricity faltered for a second as the enchantment was partially drained.

Arianna stared at Midnight, worry in her eyes.  She glanced at the staircase, not completely sure what was going on.  Was Midnight doing this?  She felt for her daggers just in case.  It was better safe than sorry, and she really didn't like being sorry.  Safe was always good.

@, Hey, are you feeling any better? Because I feel a lot better. Yep. I think I'm pretty awesome. Agreed. Garrison examined the discoloured spots that had until recently been inhabited by goo-monsters, then shrugged and moved on. Elevator's out, looks like we're taking the stairs. I hate stairs.

Nexus flinched as another acid shot hit his chestplate directly. He hoped that enchantment would hold. He almost laughed at the demon trying to swipe him, only to get zapped. It did disrupt the electric enchantment and partially drain it. When it circled, so did Nexus, in a duel like fashion. He got ready to spring his swords from their gauntlets once more, but upon seeing the acid demon gearing up for another spit, he got another idea. The normal demon charged forward, claws out, and the bat pony countered it and held it in a lock, holding it in front of him. Before any were the wiser, the acid demon fired, hitting his friend directly in the face. Nexus released it, and saw the brutal sight of its face quite literally melt off, turning into a dark green goo, gurgling sounds emanating from time to time. 

 

When he finally looked up, he saw the acid demon right in front of him. It grabbed him, pulled his head down into an awkward position, and was preparing to vomit a TON of acid. A struggle ensued, and with each second fighting its grip Nexus got closer to meeting that demons fate. At one point it ripped his helmet off, and finally he got free by stabbing it's gut and sending electricity into it. He threw him back, and began to spasm and twitch violently on the ground, before becoming still. He sustained a few acid burns on his legs and neck, but those began to heal completely. He trotted over to the spot his helmet fell, dusted it off, and returned it to his head, his damage covered once again.

As the last few demons began their attack, one acid-spitting and one clawed, both aimed Lume and Klarix. While the spitter stood behind charging its shot, the other one crazily rushed towards the mares. Looking at Klarix, Lume took a few hasty steps forward to make sure that her unarmed partner was in a safe zone.

 

She dragged the large broadsword as far from herself as she could and, as soon as the claw demon leaped for a strike, she swung the weapon with all of her strength, launching the demon's separated body parts - upper and lower - far away from the scene; she felt several drops of black, dense blood landing on her face. Immediately after taking out the first one, the spitting demon fired a shot before Lume's swing momentum could even end. Thinking as fast as she could, the earth mare utilized the force of the pull and spun around in place, trying to block the ball of corrosive goo with a second swing of the enormous weapon. It worked, breaking the ball into several smaller drops which mostly hit the mare's armor - and a little bit of her face.

 

Lume staggered and backed off, but tried not to lose sight of the spitting creature. It prepared for another throw up, but before he could do it again, she dashed towards the enemy and went through it with a stab, tip of the weapon first, stopping halfway through its stomach. As the sword got stuck inside the beast, she pulled it off and let the corpse hit the floor. Inspecting the blade, she watched as it went through the same exact fate as the shield: the corrosive goo eating through most of it.

 

"DAMN IT!!" She exclaimed, throwing her corroded (and now useless) sword against the wall - it broke in half with ease on the impact. She'd lost part of her armor, and now her only weapon. If only she had enchanted equipment like Nexus. It appeared that a mediocre iron set such as hers wasn't able to deal with the acid threat.

 

An angry expression taking over Lume's slightly burnt and blood-stained feature, she looked around the room.

 

"Are we bucking done yet?? Is it over??"

Nexus looked around the room, and saw one last demon, looking very hesitant, and possibly scared.

 

"There's one more. I got it." Nexus casually trotted over to the demon, who had it's sword out, its eyes wild, moving the tip over to the bat pony approaching.

 

"I'll make you a deal. You go back to the hellish dimension you came from, and I won't stab you in the jugular. If I ever see you in this dimension again, I will not extend this offer twice." The demon looked at him for a good few seconds, before dropping its blade and sprinting off. Chances are it will either make it back to Tartarus, or somepony else in the facility will kill it. With a shrug, Nexus removed his helmet, revealing his entire face, and turned to Lume.

 

"Are you OK? Any acid burns or injuries?" He asked, concern in his eyes.

Lume turned to Nexus in a somewhat violent manner, still overflowing with rage. "Let me see. My armor is damaged, one of my shields turned into dust, my blade broke in half and it feels like my whole face is on buckin' fire, all because of those stupid acid-spitting freaks!! ...So yes! I feel great! Thank you for asking!" She replied in a obviously sarcastic tone of voice.

 

After that, she took a deep sigh. "I'm sorry... I'm just...Ugh, those monsters! They ruined everything!"

Nexus assessed the damage, and saw that a good amount of her gear was destroyed. But she still managed to kill her share of the demons. Impressive, considering he nearly died.

 

"Well, you did a good job, giving the circumstances. But one of the most important things is to never let your emotions run high in combat. You do that, and you stop thinking, you stop thinking, you charge at them blind, you charge at them blind, you die. Always have a cool head when fighting." It was getting annoying to have his left peripheral gone, replaced by darkness, as the hunter ran a hoof through his mane.

 

"I think my Tarot power goes beyond the transformation. I actually regenerated while in cover, and it healed all my wounds. Well, most of them." He said, pointing a hoof at his left eye, still grey in the iris.

A familiar voice echoed down the hallway. "It touched me! . . . IT DIES!" Garrison strode around the corner and looked at the mess. "Wow, you guys must really like breaking stuff. Nexus, I need to talk to you as soon as possible. Hey everyvone, guess vat I can do! Oh, and there's that."

"I know that... I just... I guess I'm just not used to this thing. This killing... I've counted: Since I arrived Delvia, I killed three mutants in total. And I can't recall even squashing a single bug since I was born. Each time blood is shed by my own hooves, I feel like I lose a little bit of my sanity. That's why you mean so much to me. You're like a dream inside a nightmare, a way out of this odd world I was brought to. I usually feel secure around you, but sometimes - like this one - the pressure is just too much."

 

Lume looked down, before letting out a small, stuffed laugh. "Either that, or I'm just a bad sport." She giggled a little more.

 

"I think my Tarot power goes beyond the transformation. I actually regenerated while in cover, and it healed all my wounds. Well, most of them." He said, pointing a hoof at his left eye, still grey in the iris. 

 

She looked at Nexus' blank, empty eye. By its appearance, she immediately assumed what had happened to it. "Oh my goodness... But you... Why..." She went closer to take a better look, almost collapsing into tears when she did. "Oh no, Nexus, I'm so sorry! This is all my fault! I shouldn't have let you go inside on your own! If only I'd followed you and didn't freeze like a coward, I coul--"

Lume raised an ear to the familiar voice. If it hadn't spoken before it came in, she would have mistaken it with yet another demon: "it" was Garrison, looking scarier than ever. She frowned at his entrance.

Nexus was touched to hear that he was in some ways keeping Lume sane and steady. He knew that some ponies just can't handle the violence and the killing. It can break them. Celestia knows he questions his own sanity from time to time.

 

 

 

"Oh my goodness... But you... Why..." She went closer to take a better look, almost collapsing into tears when she did. "Oh no, Nexus, I'm so sorry! This is all my fault! I shouldn't have let you go inside on your own! If only I'd followed you and didn't freeze like a coward, I coul--"

 

Nexus stopped her right there.

 

"It's OK. It came at me madly and wildly. Which is why it died. There was nothing you could of done, I ventured out far. Just be happy that I was restored before I bled out of suffocated."

 

 

 

"It touched me! . . . IT DIES!"

 

A sigh escaped the bat pony's lips. He knew that voice all too well. He could only guess how he got here. He turned to meet the behemoth Garrison, making his way into the now destroyed lab. It was gore splattered, corpses lie everywhere-save for the one that is asleep-and equipment was destroyed and melted.

 

 

 

Nexus, I need to talk to you as soon as possible.

 

Another deep sigh. Like demons, heroics, and romance wasn't complicated enough, now he has to deal with the exploits of the dimension jumping duo spliced into a single body. He turned to Lume, an almost apologetic look on his face.

 

"Alright, while I go speak with him, why don't you and Klarix search the place? Loot the bodies, search the lab, find something useful." He turned and trotted out into the hall, where he met the giant.

 

"What is this about, Garrison?"

Nexus sat on his haunches, and began to rub his temples with his hooves.

 

"OK, so the guy that was to provide the gems got assassinated. Let's focus on that first. There are other ways of acquiring these things besides a dealer. Now, the more I think about it, the more I realize that the Crystal Empire is essentially ground zero for the demon scourge being released after 20 years. So the crystals may be corrupt.

 

"But that's OK. Out of the billions of dimensions I saw on the map, one of them must have the gems we need. We still got two and a half days before the army arrives, so as long as we can collect the proper amount in that time, we should be good. Now, if I recall correctly, diamonds, rubies, and emeralds are the most powerful gems. So if we can get at least 7 perfectly cut gems the size of an average hoof, we should have enough storage for proper charges. Any dimension that can provide that?"

Lume looked over at Garrison standing by the laboratory's exit, then back at Nexus, her expression lost in a mix of annoyance and suspicion. "Yeah, sure..." She watched as her coltfriend trotted away, far enough so the two-- ...three of them wouldn't be heard.

 

"Oh, Nexus! I need to talk to you! Our little secret! Neigh neigh neigh!!" She jokingly mimicked Garrison behind their backs, sighing afterwards and making her way near Klarix. However, she was still watching Nexus and the merged mercenaries from a distance, needless to say, curious about their talk.

You hear the sound of a door being wrenched open, and out came- whoa.

 

Behind two fully armed squads of Inquisitors in full battle plate was Karma, in a somewhat lighter armor, with a large book with an I engraved on it and a pair of longswords. As they see you, they draw their weapons, but Karma orders them to stand down. "What are you doing down here? And what happened to your eye, Nexus? And-" He glanced into the room and his jaw dropped. "Holy Celestia... what did you do?"

While she and Klarix were alone inside the destroyed lab, Lume took her time to pile up some of the bodies and search for loots that weren't there. Trying hard not to throw up with the awful smell of blood that took over the room, she stopped after inspecting merely two demons - her muzzle shrunken in disgust.

 

"Sorry about that. I think as soon as we are done here, we should get up to level 30 and see what Karma needed. Afterwards, I can see about a transplant for my eye. Though procedures of that nature are usually risky and could blind me completely...or kill me."

 

She turned to Nexus, thoughtful. "I don't know... Perhaps we should make a quick pit-stop somewhere first. Half of my gear is wrecked, the other half is gone for good. We should also look for some kind of cream to help with those acid burns." She reluctantly pointed the wounds caused by the toxic substance on her face, flinching when she touched them - those were gradually stinging more sharply, and it hurt even when she spoke. "After all, obviously these demons we just fought weren't the only ones that broke free. They must be all over the base by now." Lume's expression began showing concern. "I also highly doubt you're in conditions to fight with a disabled eye."

 

She would've continued talking to Nexus - specifically about the secret he had with Garrison -, but a distinct sound of a door bursting open caught her attention, followed by literally an army of Inquisitors entering the room. Karma was one of them.

 

 

 

"What are you doing down here? And what happened to your eye, Nexus? And-" He glanced into the room and his jaw dropped. "Holy Celestia... what did you do?"

 

"Looks horrible, doesn't it?" The mare grew a somewhat tired smile. "We received some guests... from Tartarus... We welcomed them, that's all."

Midnight frowned and pointed to the stairs "go...check if its safe" the creature slowly nodded, midnight knew that the spell probably had a distance limit, though it didnt seem to have a time limit, he also noticed how stiff it walked.

Unless he could figure something better out...hypnotizing one of them and trying to infiltrate them would be like trying to disguise a fat wolf in a poorly made sheep outfit and trying to get a dozen sheep, it would be useless.

Nexus had to agree that she needed new equipment. He had hoped there would be some on the bodies, but I suppose not. His ears perked up with a particular statement from his marefriend.

 

 

 

"I also highly doubt you're in conditions to fight with a disabled eye."

 

He was about to respond, when a platoon of Inquisitors came in, along with Karma. Nexus was actually amused by his reaction.

 

 

 

"What are you doing down here? And what happened to your eye, Nexus? And-" He glanced into the room and his jaw dropped. "Holy Celestia... what did you do?"

 

"First off, we were on our way to floor 30, when the elevator gave out on this floor. The lab was full of demons looking for something, so we hid at first. I went and retrieved the alchemy book, when I was jumped by three demons. One of them clawed at my face when my helmet fell off. He disabled sight in my left eye. And I was near death when Lume and Klarix saved me. When they did, my Tarot power must of activated, because within 30 seconds, I was fully restored...save for the eye. After that, there was an intense battle that ended in the brutal deaths of over a dozen demons. Some have an acid like spit that they can shoot as a projectile, and it melted a lot of Lume's equipment. My gear was enchanted, so it did not corrode. We were just heading up to meet you now, actually."
