Midnight held an ear up to the door then frowned, Ariannas silence was worrying him "you okay?" he tilted his head before turning back to the door, "hmm..." he looked back at the soda machine looking thing then at each of the test tubes, one green, one yellow, one blue, and one red, each one seemed to be bubbleing.

 

"i wonder..." he picked the red one up "time to see what these do."

Nexus laughed at that comment. 

 

"Nah, if anything, I would get into an epic battle with him that would end with my hindlegs severed." He got to his hooves, his blood levels normal again, and retrieved his helmet and grieves. Before he put on his grieves, he noticed his forehooves coated in his marefriend's blood. He shuddered at the sight, the first time he has shuddered at gore since he was 18. He slipped them on, blood still visible on his legs, and placed his helmet on. Before he did, his mane became a lighter shade of grey, his coat grey brighter as well, and his eye gained more color. He had but one scar left on his chest, that ran the length of it.

 

"So, shall we move on?"

Karma smiled lightly. "Well... that's that." He smiled. "We need to clear out the demons in the few floors up and down from here, but that's something that I can do by myself, and perhaps a squad of troops. You've been going on for over 20 hours of physical activity straight. Go sleep."

Before you can do anything with the chemicals, the door open. The first thing you see is White Rose, stunned and lifted up in the air by a tentacle wrapped around her waist. Then... you see what appears to be a mutant, with several more tentacles. With the suit he's wearing, it makes him look creepy. He smiled. "What do we have here...?"

Lume beamed at the thought of finally getting some rest. Although Karma had mentioned the existence of a last few demons around the building, she just could not wait to take a shower, fill up her stomach with something and get some shut eye. Besides, with the Tartarus rift sealed, the group would most likely be able to find some temporary peace before facing the true enemy.

 

"Thank you, sir. Good luck!" She nodded and waved a hoof to the Inquisitor as he and his squad proceeded to the other floor, and then glanced over at Nexus - who was looking surprisingly good despite a couple of blood stains around his fur, of which the mare also had some on herself. With a smile, they trotted back to their bedroom.

The first thing Lume did when they got back to the guest room was to jump inside the shower. The icky mess that once was her gleaming orange fur was soaked with both pony and demon blood, and she just had to clean it as soon as possible. Wrapped around a towel, she threw herself onto the bed, refreshed on the outside, though still fatigued on the inside.

 

"Your turn now..." She said to Nexus, pointing back at the bathroom. "I ain't getting nowhere near ya until you're shining clean, soldier." She joked with a grin.

(A few days? YUSH!)

 

Nexus saluted to Karma, and made his way back to his quarters with Lume. Upon arriving, he removed his gear, and found his forelegs coated in blood, as was his upper body, and well...everywhere. He did a lot of killing. And bleeding. He decided it best not to get the bed messy with his blood, and sat on his haunches next to it. He finally saw Lume walk out, still wet, with a towel around his waist. Having wings was a curse sometimes.

 

 

 

"Your turn now..." She said to Nexus, pointing back at the bathroom. "I ain't getting nowhere near ya until you're shining clean, soldier." She joked with a grin.

 

"Yes ma'am." He said in a mock tone. He walked into the bathroom-which proved difficult with his wings at full mast-and turned to shower on. After 20 minutes of a *cold* shower, he was clean as a whistle. Trotting out, he dried off and laid back in the bed, next to Lume. He looked down at his one remaining scar, running across his chest, with an unreadable look on his face.

 

"One more to go." He said absentmindedly.

"I don't think that's a good idea," Arianna tried to get out before the door opened.  She looked up at White Rose.  She hesitantly took a step back, her eyes wide with fright.  Her horn sparked just slightly as if wanting to do a spell of its own.  She frowned, wondering what this creature was.

"One more to go." He said absentmindedly.

 

Once Nexus laid down on the bed next to her, Lume lightly shifted herself and placed her head over his chest, with her belly facing downward and glancing at the bat pony's scar with the corner of the eye.

 

"I gotta say, that's pretty neat. I don't think The Chariot has any useful abilities other than annoying me when I get emotionally unstable... Though I believe that there's a lesson to be learnt from it." She rolled away so that now she was looking straight at the ceiling of the room, and started scratching her own, newly acquired scar on the chest, still mended by the stitches. "That's actually my first one... And it's not that small, too." She let out a small chuckle. "My parents will be so mad when they see it." Right after that last sentence was finished. she frowned. She knew that her family wouldn't necessarily be the best subject to bring up, so she'd better think of other things to talk about. When a few seconds of silence had passed, she turned around again and planted her muzzle in the exact same spot on Nexus' chest.

 

"You know something that's a mystery to me?..." Lume began. "How Garrison emerged out of nowhere here in the Inquisitor's hideout in Canterlot if they were supposed to be in a completely different mission elsewhere with My'kola. It was also quite curious the way they called you out of the room, away from everypony else's hearing. Not only that, I noticed you flicking through some kind of electronic device earlier, and I think that that device was what kept beeping under your wing all the time... Nexus sighed lightly, He figured that this would happen eventually. He didn't get business and infamy in the underworld as an assassin and raider for not paying attention. He saw that look and frustration whenever his...new hobby came up. But for her safety, she cannot know.

 

"Well...yeah. I suppose it is a mystery. Sure I could put all the pieces in their place, but sometimes...their are puzzles better left unsolved. Not every mystery needs investigating. This is once of those mysteries." He turned, giving a peck to her nose.

 

"And besides, it's that mystery that makes me all the more interesting. It adds a bit of excitement to this relationship."

Lume was, needless to say, unsatisfied with the answer. At the same time that she tried to respect his privacy, she wanted him to be truthful and let her know about important affairs - or at least this was her concept of a stable, prosperous relationship. Besides, she had little to no clue at all of what that was all about, and that fact alone quite bothered her. Wearing her usual "I'm upset, but not really" facial expression, she tried to find other ways around his defense.

 

"Oh, but I very much want to solve this puzzle! They are there to be solved after all." She began charmingly drawing circles with her hoof around his light-blue fur. Nexus frowned, noting that he was unable to dissuade her from this. But he needed to keep trying. He was not letting her get involved in this stupid, migraine inducing mess.

The earth mare hmph'ed and went to sit on the corner of the bed, with her arms crossed in a peevish manner. One thing was absolutely certain: the more Nexus hid whatever secret he was hiding, the bigger Lume's curiosity grew. She wanted to know what it was independently of how horrid and hideous it might be. But perhaps she had been pushing him too far already. Not to mention, she couldn't manage to stay mad at her coltfriend for longer than a couple of seconds.

Nexus facehoofed when they left. He turned back to Lume, with an exasperated look on his face.

 

"Apparently those two don't seem to care about secrecy as much as I do. Not that it surprises me, they don't really care who they harm or what chaos they bring. I swear, it's like Discords faithful students." Nexus yawned after his mini rant, rubbing his eyes.

 

"Anyway, It seems that they got what I need to purify the mutants. How about I go talk to them about it then we can get some sleep? And for the record, I love you too. Which is why I'm keeping this a secret."

As soon as Garrison popped out of nowhere and called Nexus our of the room once again, Lume looked at the bat pony with tired eyes, with one of the eyebrows raised and accompanied by a half-smile of pure, sinful joy in an expression that yelled "I got you now". While he tried to play it off, the mare was secretly laughing on the inside.

 

"Anyway, It seems that they got what I need to purify the mutants. How about I go talk to them about it then we can get some sleep? And for the record, I love you too. Which is why I'm keeping this a secret."

 

"Sure! Go talk to them, sweetie! Only..." Lume merrily jumped out of the bed and trotted towards the bedroom's door, stopping near it, the taunting facial expression still there. "I hope you don't mind if I come along~ I don't like being alone~"

Nexus didn't show it on his face, but inside he was screaming. Both in rage and in fear.

 

DAMNIT GARRISON! Why did you do that? And why can't Lume let it go?! She is going to get herself killed out of her own curiosity! OK think. How can we keep this a secret now? He seems to speak different languages, but I don't...THAT'S IT! It's a long shot, but it might just work.

 

"Sure thing, honey. Let's go." Nexus trotted out of the room with Lume, and found Garrison. He went to greet him, then crossed his metaphorical fingers.

 

"Garrison, confido che avete raccolto il materiale che ho richiesto?" He hoped that with all the places and planes he has been too, that Garrison would speak his native tongue. He knew Lume didn't, given the fact that she never seemed to understand him before.

No habla Italiano." They dug around in the saddlebag, then withdrew seven chunks of gem, varying between hoof-sized and head-sized. "There you go, I got them from..." They noticed Lume, and clammed up, looking at Nexus accusingly. "Vat's Lume doink here? No offense, but she's not exactly cut out for zis."

Nexus sighed, taking the various gems, although they were heavy as hell. He began inspecting them while speaking.

 

"With the plan to purify Delvia? She will help with that by assisting in the death of the Presence. Well, glad you found the gems needed from around Canterlot." Nexus put a subtle amount of empathize on the last part, hoping he could take a hint, but he was starting to think it was a losing battle. He checked each gem, and was amazed by what he found.

 

"These gems...no wait, it's actually emerald. They are already charged with a substantial amount of energy. We don't even need to charge them. And...they look like they fit together. Maybe, if we assemble this into its true form in the center of Delvia, and unleash its power, it should purify everything within a 100 mile radius. Maybe even more. We should have these sent to the team in Delvia and have them assemble it. Then once Resh is killed, we should be ready to finish this." Nexus paused for a moment.

After they went out of the room to meet Garrison, Lume just anxiously awaited for their discussion to begin with a smile decorating her feature. However, the smile soon descended into a completely dumbfounded look when Nexus began speaking the language she could not decipher - as if the annoying German wasn't enough. Upset by his smart trick, she just kept staring at him for a little longer before the merged mercenaries took several gemstones out of their saddlebag. The three stallions looked rather uncomfortable with Lume listening to them. Just as expected.

 

She remembered Nexus speaking with Karmatic Justice earlier about the use of certain gems to purify Delvia, so that wasn't much of a surprise. Yet, the real question was: where did Garrison find those gems, and how did they even know that Nexus needed them? Playing coy, she proceeded:

 

"I see that you two-- uh... three, have been keeping in touch with each other during our separate missions... That's nice... Also, nice gems you've got there."

 

 

 

"Go vake up your schtupid friends, und take your schtupid marefriend vis you."

 

 

Her eye twitched. "Excuse me??"

As they walked away, Nexus muttered to himself,

 

"Stronzo."

 

He turned to Lume, an apologetic look on his face.

 

"Sorry about that. He can be a bit of a prick. In any case, we should get these pieces to Karmatic Justice. He shouldbe able to reassemble this emerald and get it to Delvia. Judging by the sizes of these pieces, this thing is going to be massive, and extremely powerful. Just what we need to purify this land." He turned to a window, and saw the moon out.

 

"Though that can be done in the morning. Let's get some shut eye. Help me carry these back."

"Yeah, you better get going, stupid German! Try to find a plastic surgeon to fix that ugly face of yours, ya freak!!" Lume shouted insults to Garrison as they disappeared around a corner. After all of that, she didn't manage to obtain as many answers as she wanted, only actually getting irritated by the mercenaries as a result. Puffing in anger, she turned back to Nexus when he began apologizing.

Given up, she just sighed and nodded her head, picking up merely two of the smallest chunks of emeralds and bringing them inside, tossing them on the couch. After that, she face-planted back on the bed, sprawled like a stubborn teenager. She started murmuring something indecipherable, her voice muffled from being pressed against the mattress, only to get interrupted by a loud growling noise coming from somewhere near. She looked over to Nexus' general direction.

 

"...I'm hungry." She said, her stomach growling a second time.

Nexus set the remaining five pieces on the couch, relieved to have the weight off. He flopped onto the bed next his marefriend, who was grumbling like a pissed off teenager. He couldn't help but grin at her behavior, and patted her on the back, which was followed by a growl. Then another.

 

"Let us see what is around to eat, shall we?" He got up, and trotted over to the small kitchen. He looked around, and all he found was the supplies to make a few hay sandwiches. 

 

"Feel like a sandwich?"

"Like, two, then. Without the crust. Not too much hay, also. If you're not going to tell me your secrets, at least prevent me from starving to death." Lume said, sarcastic, yet still angry.

 

"But seriously now!" She jumped up and sat herself in the same place on the bed. "All I'm asking is how you and Garrison are talking to each other! Come on, it can't be anything dangerous or scary, I'm sure you're exaggerating on keeping this silly thing a secret. Do you guys have something like a walkie-talkie, a radio... or even a cellphone? A cellphone isn't dangerous, Nexus, I've got one myself!" She slid to the other end of the bed, looking on the floor next to it, where her saddlebag was. She searched through it and soon brought out the mobile phone: a very advanced model, one of the latest. It had a strong lime color - a tone considerably brighter than the mare's mane and tail. It had a cute little kitten head ornament attached to it.

 

After showcasing it to the bat colt in the kitchen, she turned to look at its screen and frowned. "No signal, though... From Delvia, until now. I think it has something to do with those black clouds outside, jamming up the freaking service." Lume kept staring blankly at her phone.

 

"I wish I could call my parents... See if they're okay... Tell them I am okay..."

That hurt. Nexus wasn't sure why, but the way Lume was speaking to him hurt. He scolded himself for such weakness, as it wasn't the first time he has been given an attitude, but he couldn't shake it as he prepared food. He trotted out of the kitchen with three sandwiches on his back, when she spoke again.

 

 

 

"But seriously now!" She jumped up and sat herself in the same place on the bed. "All I'm asking is how you and Garrison are talking to each other! He handed her two of the sandwiches and took the last one himself. He quietly ate as she talked about contacting her parents. He would of comforted her, had he been paying attention. His mind was one this whole 'secret' business. His ears were pinned to head, Nexus looking visibly upset.

 

"Look, I really, really hate having to be secretive around you Lume. But I don't know how much information is too much. I risk allowing you to figure it out. And I would sooner jump into a vat of mutant goo than let you come to harm over something I was dumb enough to get myself into! So do me a favor and just drop it!" Nexus hadn't realized that he was slowly raising his voice, until he was yelling at the end. Once again, his ears splayed back, and he looked down at his own food.
