Arianna watched the jerky movements of the deceased mutant.  Maybe this wasn't so bad.  "We'll want to get out of here fast," she said.  "More might come and I don't want to be down here to see it."  She looked around, unable to take her eyes off the shambling creature.

midnight nodded, "up the stairs," he smiled and looked at her, really looking at her, her eyes, dispite everything against him, at least he had one thing going for him..

He blushed then held his hoof out for her helping her up the steps "ladies first." he chuckled and nosed her softly before wincing at the movement of his neck, and lightly touched his wing, "and mabey we need to find something to bind up my wing.." he sighed then smiled at the unicorn her had grown to love, pretty quickly in his opinion but he wasnt about to complain.

"i hate being flightless, it makes me feel so...grounded you know?"

Karma listened to the pair of them, then nodded. He signaled to one of the Inquisitors who tossed Lume his equipment before leaving. "That should keep you from any more issues." He sighed. "Alright. The problem is downstairs, next floor. A demon lord has opened this rift, so when we get down there, I need about ten minutes straight of not being disturbed. Once they realize what's happening, they are going to hit us with a whole lot of everything, so please keep them out off of my back." He started to go, but then produced an eyepatch for Nexus. "This will help keep any little remaining sight from that eye from distracting you until we get the time to heal you. And..." He paused, and an Inquisitor came forward an applied a healing solvent to Lume's facial wounds. "That should help you."

You open the door and come out of what appears to be a mountain, and find yourself in the middle of what appears to be a jungle. For some reason, the ground is trembling almost constantly- not enough to destroy anything, but noticeably.

As you continue upwards, you find it getting lighter and lighter until you come out into a hall with a large pool of clear liquid in the center, with many staircases like yours that move down. Between these stairs are tubes of glass, however, they are shaded from view from what side you are on. There are a pair of staircases and an overhang on your side. This place is swarming with the mutants.

Nexus examined the eye patch. It was a similar design as the one attached to his helmet, only this one actually served it's purpose. For a brief moment, one could see sadness on the bat pony's face. He placed it over his left eye, the strap running through his mane. He looked back at Lume, who had cream being applied to the burns she suffered. He at least found solace in the fact that she got off rather easy in terms of physical damage. He hated having her thrust into these combat situations. If she didn't sustain physical injury, she would sure as hell sustain psychological ones. Turning back to Karma, he returned his helmet to his head, his helmet patch covering the real one.

Karma listened to the pair of them, then nodded. He signaled to one of the Inquisitors who tossed Lume his equipment before leaving. "That should keep you from any more issues."

 

Lume watched as one of the Inquisitors was ordered to take off his own equipment and lend it to her, leaving the room afterwards. She thought about it for a moment, and something didn't quite feel right. What made Karma dismiss one of his own companions with such ease in order to give the mare the armor she'd lost? Most likely, it was because of the Tarot power: being a holder, her safety would have to be some sort of priority to the Inquisition. Even so, it didn't sound very fair. But she decided not to complain much about it.

 

She geared up with the armor pieces that were thrown on the floor near her: all of them almost double her size. Upon finishing, she glanced over at Nexus with a nervous smile. If somepony was to look from a distance, she would perfectly resemble one of the Inquisitor guards. Except, she was almost fully hidden inside the armor like a turtle. Lume decided not to put on the helmet just yet, or else it would partially cover her vision.

 

After that, another Inquisitor stepped forward holding a flask of ointment. "Okay, so what is-- AUGHH!!" The substance was applied on her wounds, making the unprepared mare yell and recoil with the sting of the medicine.

 

"That should help you."

 

"You could've warned me at least!!" She angrily exclaimed, though now the burns were already considerably feeling better with the cold cream.

Garrison looked around. I hate jungles. You hate a lot of stuff. I hate jungles a lot. I know. Let's find some emeralds.

After hiking for a while, Garrison came to the edge of a waterfall. Looking down, they saw what looked like some kind of a temple in the distance.

Arianna nodded, stopping in her tracks.  What was this place?  She slowly looked around, careful not to move.  She wasn't sure how well the mutants could see them.  She was grateful for the mutant that Midnight seemed able to control. It might help them blend it a bit.

Karma sighed as another. fully armed Inquisitor came jogging down the stairs. "Let's get going then."

 

As they are walking, he said to Lume, "I'm sorry I didn't warn you. But I assume a single burst of pain is better than trying to fight a herd of demons with the pain, yes?" he sighed. There was a hint of regret about his face, especially after looking at Nexus's and Lume's face- Nexus with a touch of sadness and Lume with her face rageful.

 

As you reach a place where the hallway suddenly turns left, there are obvious signs of combat. He raised his eyebrows but didn't say anything. He stuck his head around the corner. "Alright. There it is." He turned to the others. "Are you ready?"

Indeed it is a temple in the distance. There seems to be nothing special about it, from what you can see from here. The jungle seems to lighten up here.

"As ready as I'll ever be." Nexus turned to Lume, a hint of sadness on his features.

 

"Alright, we need to defend Karma until he can close the rift. Combat may be a little more difficult with one bad eye, but I can still handle myself well. These demons are powerful, more powerful than anything I have faced before. So be careful, and don't get reckless. Avoid the spitters, and allow me to kill them, as my gear won't corrode." His entire demeanor got deadly serious, as did his tone.

 

"And, if for whatever reason, I am in a position where the demons overrun me, do NOT risk your life for mine. If I can get to safety for thirty seconds, I can regen. You cannot. And if I can't, leave me. Rather you believe it or not, your life holds more value than mine. Apart from you, I have nopony. No family, no friends. Nopony would miss me. Think about YOUR friends and family, and how your death would devastate them. If I die, kill first, mourn later. Hell, I've seen you get mad, turn that sadness into rage and channel it into combat. If it comes down to it, your life is more valuable than mine. Are we clear on that?"

midnight blinked and looked to his left "oh....." his ears went back in embarrassment, "theres a staircase right here..." he ordered the mutant up the staircase before turning around and smiling, pulling arianna with him up the steps.

"so what were we talking about?" hde paused "oh right, it probably wasnt easy...learning to fly  by myself was like that, you dont know HOW many trees i slammed into." he laughed, "how many times i broke my wing, it was crazy."

Arianna laughed softly, walking beside him.  "I bet that wasn't easy," she said, keeping her mind busy with the conversation.  "It wasn't so much hard as it was depressing.  There was nothing I could learn.  Everything I had planned out was gone."  She frowned, thinking of the memories.

"Yeah, I guess... I'm sorry too, I didn't mean to get mad at you. I sometimes have these sudden explosions of emotions... I hope you understand." Lume smiled to the Inquisitor as they were walking through the hallway. "Thank you, in fact."

 

 "Alright. There it is." He turned to the others. "Are you ready?"

 

Trying to keep a steady posture while holding that enormous armor set, she nodded, acknowledging the blade lying on her back - just like the last one. After that, Nexus turned to face her and began speaking about general tactics and whatnot. However, halfway through his speech, the mare began purposely showing an uninterested and boring expression, rolling her eyes every now and then and staring blankly at random directions, like towards the walls and the ceiling. 

 

"Are we clear on that?"

 

She stared directly at the bat colt's eyes, waiting a few seconds to make sure that he was serious, and that it wasn't just a very good acting after all. Lume's face began slowly descending into, yet again, annoyance and irritation.

 

"Celestia above, if this stupid armor wasn't making my movement so damn complicated, I swear, I would hit you right in that beautiful kisser of yours!" She sighed. "Do you really think I would stand there, watching you get beaten up by Tartarus' entire population, because you somehow think that my life is more valuable than yours? Do you really?? Just stop and reason for a second about this huge nonsense you're saying! I don't care if you can regenerate, you're not immortal. I absolutely won't leave you behind, under no circumstances. Besides, guess who would miss you more than anything in this world?" She raised a hoof.

 

She shook her head and settled down a bit, letting out another small sigh. "Look... Nexus... Honey... Not very long ago, a very kind and wise pony told me: Quote. As long as we are here, we need to stick together. We have each other's back, and we pick each other up when we fall. This is how a group works. Quote. To this very phrase, I live up until now, and it has been working just perfectly. So please, stop talking about leaving you to die, the importance of one's life and all of those dreadful things. I got your back, and you got mine. There's no way either of us can fail like that." She planted a sweet kiss on his cheek.

A slight heat overtook the bat pony's face, and for a while, he just stared back with an unreadable expression. What he was doing was going over what his marefriend just told him again, before he leaned forward and gave her a peck on the lips.

 

"Crystal. Now, let's get on with it before something stupid like a demonic dragon shows up." He turned to face Karma, a renewed look of determination on his face.

Klarix nodded her assent, mentally preparing herself for what was to come. Once all hell broke loose, she'd have to find a relatively sheltered spot so that she could utilize her newly discovered powers without the risk of getting killed while distracted.

"Well then... let us go." And he turned the corner.

 

The room was trashed. Everything in it was destroyed, and in piles of rubble off to the side. There were about ten demons standing there, and they snapped into combat poses as they saw them round the corner. Karma moved to the side, letting the Inquisitors and the others go by. He then took out a book and began reading it. You see his bionics begin to glow a dark blue...

 

The ten inquisitors started off by forming a shield wall. The demons growled and charged, and began to engage in combat with the Inquisitors. Twp spitting demons came out of the portal, and then started aiming, one aiming at Lume, one aiming at Karma. Karma raised a magical shield in front of him, but the glow around him dimmed down.

As you make your way up the stairs, you look out among the other mutants. It gives you a very... kingly feeling. As you walk on, you see many more glass tubes, all tinted black. They have something in them, floating in a liquid, but you are unable to make out what it is. You see several buttons and a small testing table on one end of this room, and what appears to be a modified soft drink machine on the other side, each tube marked with a different color. You see several tubes of different colored liquid pump in, and a large metal door on the other side of the room. It appears to be locked.

The 'temple' as you call it is abandoned. It looks like all this place needs to come tumbling down is a good shock. There is a door to go forward, and a staircase to go down. There is a faint green glow coming down from the staircase...

midnight nodded, and reached his unbroken wing over and gave arianna a hug, "hey, your able to do so now, and when we get out of this, there will be plenty of opritunities, for both of us." he smiled and winked, before looking around the room, "hmm," he tested the locked door, even if it was obviously locked "well...worth a shot." 

 

he turned back around then noticed the test tubes and modified drink machine, "ohh, soda, wonder if it works..im VERY thirsty." he trotted over and poked one of the machines levers, it made a noise and spit out a reddish liquid.

 

"that...dosent look like soda." he blinked and looked over at arianna

Nexus flew up to hover over the battle. He saw a spitter getting ready to attack Lume, but unfortunately...for it, it was stabbed in the temple by a claw wielding bat pony before it got the chance. The second looked over with a look of shock, but quickly replaced it with anger as it got ready to attack. Nexus rushed forward, swords out, and sliced both swords in opposite directions. The demon was severed at the neck and waist, falling into several pieces.

In the centre, there was something bright, and green. "That wasn't so hard, eh? You worry too much." Garrison strode towards the Emerald.

As they entered the room, Lume began scanning the place. The several enemies inside soon spotted the group and engaged in combat with the Inquisitor army. Both sides had something to protect: Karma and his spell on one, and the summoning rift on the other. A spitter had recently came out of the portal and prepared to fire a shot towards the mare. Looking down at her fore legs, a troubled, uneasy look showed up in her eyes. Her shields weren't there. They were customized to fit her former equipment, which was destroyed earlier by those same acid demons. Staring down the spitter and waiting for him to fire his substance, she began formulating a last-hour plan.

 

When the corrosive acid was shot, she immediately jumped away from its trajectory, losing balance and tripping over in the process due to the gear that didn't fit. Curse... She thought before getting back up on her hooves and charging towards the demon before he could prepare another spit. With a steady uppercut to its chin, Lume was able to at least knock out the first demon.

 

Upon noticing another spitting demon aiming at Karma - who was forced to cancel the conjuring and shield himself -, she ran towards said demon and tackled him away. Not very long after growing a smile at the bionic Inquisitor, she was caught by surprise from behind by a clawed demon, who grappled and immobilized the mare. Thanks to the armor, the grip wasn't harming her directly just yet, but she couldn't move.

(Time to repay the debt)

 

Nexus sank his claws into a spitter's gut, twisting the weapon before pulling out. He looked around the battlefield, surveying the situation. He saw Klarix near the entrance to the room, Karma getting the spell going, and Lume being grappled and crushed by the same demon variant that clawed his eye. To that end, Nexus galloped full speed towards the demon, and jumped on it's back. This caught it by surprise, and before it could effectively react, Nexus got a grip on its head, near the jaw line, and twisted so fast, and hard, that he ended up ripping it's head off, and tossing it at a wall. 

 

"And that's what you get for touching her, you succhiacazzi." Nexus had his entire upper body sticky with the black blood of the demon when he went to help Lume up.

Lume extended a hoof when Nexus offered the help. He had decapitated the grappling demon, and its dark blood was spattered everywhere. She looked at the bat pony's bloody figure with wide, sparkling eyes.

 

"Kinda gruesome, but brave anyway. Thank you, sweetie~" She gave him a quick smooch and turned around, back into the fray. The use of a seemingly foul language of a kind that the mare couldn't quite decipher also sparked a tad of curiosity. Perhaps yet another question to her list of "Ask Nexus about secrets as soon as we are safe".

More demons were now coming out of the portal in droves. You see one of the Inquisitors go flying, only to recover himself quickly and charge back into the fray. Karma's bionics were now a bright blue and beginning to flash.

You walk across the floor to get a closer look at this emerald. It was HUGE- about twice the size of you- and outputting a strong source of energy. It was pulsing with a green light. There were seven other alcoves surrounding it, but they didn't have anything in them.
