Drawing tips

I'm new to this place and I'm a little scared to upload some of my drawings. I would like to get some tips and advice on how to improve on them. I want to learn how to make them a bit more interesting to start to do requests, I kinda suck at making the backgroundsderpy_emoticon1.png  Soo..here's my oc reference

looks pretty good! you shouldn't be nervous about uploading your stuff, it looks amazing to me.

anyway, as far as tips go i think you could work a bit on the proportions. the coloring looks good to me and i really like the way you gave her a hat :P

keep up the good work!

You should practice keeping the legs a consistent width. The width of the leg that's lifted up seems to look best with your style, so aim for that. And don't worry too much about the backgrounds right now. Focus on the characters before moving on to that.

First of all, welcome!  Second, you should not feel nervous about posting your work here, as I have seen nothing but friendly and receptive members here that are more than willing to share their thoughts on whatever work you may have.  I know it can be hard to break from that shy demeanor about sharing art with others, but it is a great way to gain insight that you many not have received otherwise.

As Citrus said, I would not worry over backgrounds just yet; once you have characters down firmly, then you can move on to other things.  No need to overload yourself, right?  A great way to improve is to look up references on what you wish to draw, as you can begin to study correct proportions of the features and characters you wish to draw, as well as ideas for poses and other such things.

As for what you have posted, it is a rather good start and your OC is quite cute (I am a sucker for characters with scarves).  However, try not to cut off portions of your character as can tend to make a composition look unbalanced and unfinished.  Other than that and what has already been stated, I believe you are on the right track and I do hope that this was of some help to you.  Here is to also hoping that I see more of your work in the future.  Take care and happy drawing!

It's better than what I can do :P But I agree that you should work on the dimensions of the legs. One thing that bothered me was the hat. I like the idea of it, it makes her more memorable. But it seems to be sitting atop her hair rather than her head. If you don't get what I mean, her hair should smushed down due to the hat and it should be lower. Hope I helped :)

Your drawing is quite good, and you shouldn't feel tormented about uploading your content. This is a friendly place, and you can only expect positive feedback. I'd recommend joining D1SC0RD's let's learn to draw ponies thread, so you can see how others draw and keep practicing!
