"I'm sure it does" I give him an agreeing glance then he starts speaking about the party "the party? After school I think, I'll be helping Star with getting the supplies with her at the store. So we pretty much got it all planned out." I shrug and look at Star sitting in the back. I wave at her with a little smile.

Whirl Wake nodded, his face still in his hooves. 'Way to be specific.' He thought, letting his mental condescension out before speaking. He turned back to Pelate. "Well, when after school? It ends at..." The tired stallion fumbled with his schedule. "Three forty-five." Putting back the paper, Whirl once again panned his head into his arms and closed his eyes.

"I can hold my own, but I think I draw the line at lliterature-based demons and monsters. "We certainly shall see what happens," he said with a slight shrug. "I am still not sure what exactly that... thing, was. The necromatic section of the Library holds many kinds of forbidden magic. I do have one little tidbit you might be interested in though." He drew his deck of cards from within his bags and began to shuffle them. It looked like it was a force of habit. "While I suspect it is far beyond my capability, there is one particular kind of spell that would allow one to move great distances in only a short amount of time. The basic theory is that all places of knowledge and learning are connected on a magical level, so one could latch onto the connection and be pulled to any of the places that are connected to the Library in less than a second." His deck disappeared back into his bags after it had been shuffled so fast that the cards began to blur together. "The reason I mention this is because there would be a possibility to visit some... exotic locations without much effort on our part."

"Hm... that does sound interesting." Although interested  Light Shine had not been allowed to take magic theory because she wasn't a unicorn, so she tried to study up on her own and was left with a very scattered education on the subject. "But teleportation spells scale energy with distance... and it goes exponentially, doesn't it? To go halfway across the globe would take the equivalent of several discharges of the Elements of Harmony. How does this spell circumvent it? Are the books a reactor of some sort? Not that a more exotic location wouldn't... excite me."

"Well, think of it like this," he explained. "Knowledge and books in particular are known to have a special magic all of their own. It explains why books with no author can suddenly appear talking about events that haven't happened yet, but they refer to them in the past tense. The basic answer to your question is: the books supply the magic. In addition, they supply the easiest route to follow, meaning that much less energy has to be expended than normally would take place. Regular teleportation relies on a pony's memory, which can be inaccurate. Books simply know, so it will be extremely accurate one hundred percent of the time. A proper analogy would be as such: a unicorn using a teleportation spell off of memory would be using a sledge hammer to break a rock. Using books to form a teleportation spell finds the weakest point in the rock and applies only the minimum amount of force needed to crack it in half. Much more precise."

Starry started reading one of her mythology books, she already knew so much but wanted a head start versus the rest of the class. She was reading about draconequus like Discord. They were the most amazing things in  Equestria! Starry actually believed there could be more out there, stuck in hiding.

Lounging in her seat, Cinder pulled out the battered notebook, as well as her brand new mythology textbook. Promptly opening the one not relevant to the lesson, she started to scribble away.

Ciel laid her head on her desk, her ears back and her mane covering her face. Apparently she had sat in the wrong place because literally no one was in her row. There were ponies in front of her and of course behind her, but that was about it. She sighed and drummed her hooves on the table, impatiently waiting for the teacher to arrive, and for this class to be over.

The presence of such a special that ignites the magics of the book in particular could  cause major problems for the arcane atmosphere in general, though I suppose you have some way to limit that." Light Eye pouted, not one for appearances but more general thought. "Gah, there's just far too much to think about, but in general yes, definitely yes, that sounds nice and amazing." "The thing about magical theory is," Steeleye said smoothly. "That what sounds or would seem complicated is more often than not rather simple. So, in the way I was taught, what's simpler is better. The less variables and chances you have to deal with, the more likely I will be to succeed. For instance, the question of how one can store magic in an object, like a gem. On one hoof, I could pull the magic from myself or the surrounding area. But I could just write a rune on the gem that attracts magic on its own. The latter of the two even holds more of a magical charge. So, less effort equals more gain, the path of least resistance. However, the more magic is used, the harder it is to control. That one still puzzles me."

A unicorn stallion rushed into the classroom. He was a dark golden color, with a light brown messy mane. He had a clutter of books he was holding with his magic, and he dumped them onto his desk. "Hehe, sorry I'm late. That... tends to happen..." He smiled sheepishly at the students. "My name is Path Finder and I will be your Mythology teacher for the rest of the year." Blaze became very silent. He had been silent before, but now he barely moved. Why is he here? Why is he a Mythology teacher? Did... Actually that makes sense. Blaze regretted sitting in the front. The Mythology teacher was his dad.

Starry looked up from her book and smiled at the teacher. She put her book away and got her notebook, pencil, and mythology textbook out. She looked at Blaze who was silent and looked like he was frozen. Looking back at the teacher she realized how similar they looked, and Blaze's last name was Finder. After a few minutes she put two and two together. Yep, that's Blaze's dad alright.  Starry wasn't going to blurt out what she had figured out, because Blaze looked embarrassed enough. Even if he wasn't embarrassed she would still let ponies figure it out for themselves.

Psych Ward hesitantly looked up.  She shut her book, carefully sliding it off the desk.  She didn't notice anything odd about the pony except he seemed a little rushed.  She got a pencil out, carefully opening her notebook and mythology textbook before turning to the front of the room.

I look up at the teacher *path finder? Could that be? Blazes dad?* I look at Blaze he was pretty embarrassed looking, I put away my things and pull out a pencil and notebook. *well time to start learning, not very exited no...* I look at the teacher with a bored look on my face. *lets get this over with Finder...*

Path Finder looked around the classroom. He purposely skimmed over his son as he did so. He wasn't the kind of parent to announce his relation to a student in front of all his mates. "I will shamelessly admit that this is my first time teaching Mythology. I have studied the subject intensely over the past year or so, and I assure you my memory is excellent so I won't miss a bloody single thing." He smiled and glanced at Blaze, for he knew they shared that trait. "Anyways can someone tell me what... a draconequus is?" Not many ponies knew what the creatures were, but he knew that at least somepony should know what i was.

 

Blaze was grateful that his father hadn't pointed out their relationship. he didn't really mind it that much, but he would prefer if everypony found out after class. Blaze assumed that anypony who noticed that Blaze and Path Finder's accents and names were similar would be able to figure it out anyway. They didn't look too similar, aside from the startling blue eyes that contrasted both of their coat colors.

Light Eye grinned at the entrance of the teacher. She hoped there was much to learn from him. If there was any new info to be gleaned from this teacher, she would eagerly and readily accept it.

 

"Talk more after class, alright?" Light Eye whispered in quick, hushed tones to Steeleye. "I don't want to miss anything."

Psych Ward nodded but didn't raise her hoof.  She wasn't one to speak out in class in case she was wrong.  Draconequus, Psych had written at the top of the first page.  She held her pencil carefully in her mouth, ready to hear what she would be writing.  She really didn't need to take notes.  They just helped.

Ciel raised her head when the teacher finally arrived. Heh, I guess he's one of those teachers that just get started, no pause or ice breaker games. Which is great, because I hate those things. She thought.

Her ears perked up when he asked the question, because she actually knew the answer. She raised her hoof, "A draconnequs is a creature that is bits and pieces of other creatures?" she ended the sentence in a question because when she said it out loud it didn't sound quite correct.

Path Finder nodded. "Essentially yes. Anypony who knows what a chimera is will usually try to connect the two, but they are in fact different creatures entirely. The only known draconequus in this day and age is the newly reformed ((yes I'm going that route)) Discord. It isn't known if all draconequus can use chaos magic, as there are no other records of it." Path Finder smiled to the class. "Now I'd like you all to take out your Mythoology books and read Chapter 1. It's pretty short so don't worry," he said, smile growing wider.

 

Blaze finder took the book out of his neckcloth and opened it up. 1000 years ago... I feel like that's gonna be the start of several of these chapters. Blaze smiled to himself and continued reading.

I know this one...uhm how do I explain it?* then I hear another pony answer, *never mind that sounds about right...* I make a slightly unamused face *wonder what the next question will be...* I was a little tired and was really slow. I look up at the clock *ugh this already feels like forever..*i hear Finder tell us to read *.now we gotta read...that's easy* I crack open the book and start reading. *hope this isn't long...1000 years agoooo ARE YOU KIDDING ME???* I make an unsurprised look at the book and continue.

Cinder opened the book and looked at the first chapter.

 

'1000 years ago... oh hey, this book's got one of those things... what do you call it? To keep the dust off the cover... Dust Cover Thingy!' Her attention started to wander: it wasn't that she wasn't able to concentrate, more like an avid disinterest in the subject.

 

'I should get one of these for my notebook! Probably a better one than this though, one that can protect it from inc and stuff too. And fire. And cats.'

 

She blinked: 'Pay attention Cinder. Everyone else is paying attention.'

 

Were they though? She chanced a sideways glance around the room and noticed that at least a couple of ponies seemed to be having as much trouble as her getting interested in the book.

Starry raised her hoof.

 

"Wait a second. Isn't draconuus plural? Ponies believe there is only one but how could there only be one when Discord was born? he had to of had parents, and what about there being others? There has to be since draconuus are immortal. Unless if there was a war between Alicorns and draconuus and all of them had died off when Discord was a child. Wouldn't there be other young draconuus with him? Of course you can't answer that because they are all probably in hiding all because of Discord's wrong doings!"

 

She sighed and opened her book. She started reading not paying attention to the teacher. Starry then picked up her pencil and started doodling draconuus.

Path Finder gave a quizzical look to Star. "Well lass, I meant it as in that there are no other draconequus besides Discord that are kown to exist as of yet. They most likely were more common centuries ago, so Discord most likely had parents. Unless of course, draconequus are born through some other method other than the obvious one." He smiled and looked back down at a book he had been reading. The smile was akin to Blaze's.

She looked back up from the book again.

 

"Aren't draconuus immortal though? They would be alive then, but so would the others. Unless if the fact is that they just have a long life span. That would still mean they could still be around."

 

She smiled kindly at the teacher.

 

"I've been learning about things like these almost my whole life, this is a battle you just can't win."

 

She giggled shaking her head and continued to read. This is also why she never had many friends as a filly.
