His eyes almost seemed to widen and narrow at the same time as the grin spread further across his face. "Come now, don't be nervous. We wouldn't hurt you. You're not afraid of us, are you?" The grin disappeared and was swiftly replaced with an insulted frown as he turned away and began pouring a drink of his own, only just now noticing that another stallion had appeared at the table too, who also seemed to be drinking down beverages like water. 

 

"Oh I am sorry, where are my manners?" he suddenly perked up again as he drank "The name's Shadow Claw, pleasure making your acquaintance. Although I guess you knew that didn't you?"

Again Hop had to swallow a lump in her throat. "I-I guess I did." she said still trying to calm her nerves some. "I-I'm Hop..." When Shadow turned to pour himself a glass of wine Hop quickly drank half her glass hoping that she was just seeing things and this was actually Dusk. "So... where's Dusk?" she asked after mustering up a little more curage.

Hop grew angry at the subtle insluts the Shadow made towards Dusk. She could see why he didn't like Shadow to begin with. "I can see why he wouldn't like you. You're kind of rude towards him." Hop took another sip of her wine. "I'm also guessing that was you who sugested going over to the lake?"

"Was it that obvious? The boy needs a push every now and again. But how could you say i'm rude to him? I'm just honest...nothing more." he smirked again, narrowing his eyes as he stared the mare up and down. "And it's clear to me that he has a fine sense in mares." he laughed with a wink, downing yet another drink right off the table. "He's going to hate me for this, the stallion loathes alcohol of any sort" Shadow chuckled one last time before looking off elsewhere. "So, what say you? Now you know about us, would you still be one for giving him a chance, or have I done wrong by him again and scared you away?" he pulled a puppy eyes look as he drew the last question.

"Thank Vee-o-let. You best." Then Shadow came along and started acting...odd. He wasn't like anypony...or anything he saw before. HE leaned towards Violet. "Vee-o-let...what happening? Shadow pony seem funny..." He didn't quite understand it, but he sensed that something was wrong.

Amour glowered at the ground then got up quickly, puffing out her chest and trotting towards the maze. "I can take a risk!" She muttered. "I'll take plenty of risks, RIGHT NOW!" And with that she dashed into the maze, not looking back. It didn't occur to her that maybe she should have told the host that she was going to enter the maze, or even tell anyone else, but it was too late she ad already blindly turned down to many turns to know how to get back.

 

"Not that I need any help!" She said. "I can get out by myself!"

Hop let a low growl escape her lips as Shadow continued talking. "You know the truth isn't always the best answer. And I don't want you checking me out either!" she replied making it clear she didn't care too much for shadow. "I want him back and I don't you 'helping' him either."

"Ah well you really aren't much fun are you?" he chuckled, pulling another sad face at her unhappy growl. "Okay, i'm trying to help him after all, so i'll just go back to sleep for a while." he placed a hoof on her cheek softly tilting his head at her "you know it was him who let me out right? You did ask, after all. Oh and since you've not answered my questions...any of them, i'll just have to tell Dusk you told him no. See if I can't make the stallion toughen up a little" he laughed, before grinning again and baring his teeth, blinking once slowly as his eyes slowly changed colour again, like a green food dye being placed into purple oil. "Think i'm just gonna go sit in the maze for a while, y'don't mind do ya?" 

 

With that speech, he quickly downed another drink and galloped over to the maze, almost power-sliding into it and disappearing into the darkness of its confines.

Violet glanced over at the colt and raised an eyebrow before looking back at Vesper. "He seems fine to me...maybe a little creepy, but nothing to worry about." She whispered, giving Vesper a comforting smile before leaning back in her chair and stretching, moving her tail so it was mostly out of view under the table. "So what do you want to do now? I've had enough wine I think." She said.

Hop watched as Dusk or Shadow, whichever it was run off into the hedge maze and let out a lengthy sigh. She quickly downed the rest of wine before getting more. Hop turned and saw the two half ponies talking at a near by table and decided to join them. She sat on the adjacent side and took a large sip of her wine before getting the courage to talk to the two. "H-hi." she said and quickly noticed how much her voice quavered and cleared her throat and tried again. "Hi."

The others seemed to have migrated away from his table, leaving him to his thoughts. The pegasus glanced over to the snakepony, Violet, as she talked with Vesper. He chuckled, finding it amusing how the two of them were getting along now instead of the latter running away in fear. One point stood true, though: they certainly were adorable together.

 

At that moment, a thought struck Frost. What if he worked to help the batpony out a bit? He waved at the stallion, trying to get his attention. "Yo, batpony! Let's take a walk."

Vesper heard him and looked around before spying Frost calling for a batpony. He immediately got excited. "Batpony!? Where!? Want see! 'nother batpony!" He looked around, thinking there was another batpony nearby. When he couldn't find it, he went over to Frost. "You see batpony? Where?"

The pegasus nodded over his shoulder, aiming to get Vesper to an area where they wouldn't be disturbed. "Let's take a walk. I wanna help you out, and it'll be a surprise to Violet."

Frost grinned, patting the batpony on the shoulder. "Nah broski, I was talking about you. Your name's uh..." He thought for a bit, recalling what Violet had called him. "...Vesper, right? Yeah, I just wanted to talk to you a bit. You and Violet seem to be...getting along well together, even if you were scared of her earlier." The pegasus nodded over his shoulder, aiming to get Vesper to an area where they wouldn't be disturbed. "Let's take a walk. I wanna help you out, and it'll be a surprise to Violet."

"Surprise?" he asked at a normal voice before realizing he was being too loud. He whispered, "Surprise? Surprise for Vee-o-let? Help Vesper? Frost nice pony. We walk and you tell Vesper good things..." Vesper smiled and gladly walked off with Frost, wanting to make his new friend, Violet, happy.

The pegasus nodded. "Yeah, a surprise for Violet." The batpony may have seemed just a tad bit...slow, but Frost wasn't above helping anypony with relationship assistance. He led Vesper a good distance away from the rest of the ponies, towards the maze, and pulled his Explorer from the guitar case once more. "Now, you see how she liked the song I was playing earlier? I wonder how she'd react if you impressed her by playing guitar." Obviously, the mare would figure out that he was involved by noticing that the batpony was playing his guitar, but it was worth a shot. Grinning he brought his guitar to bear, standing up on his hind hooves.

 

"So I told myself that I'd teach you a song that you can play for her."

The pegasus couldn't be wrong; she was definitely showing interest in Vesper. "Because I think she'd like it a...little bit more if you played for her instead of me. And I wanna teach you because I'm sure she'd enjoy it. Now. Can you stand like this?" He assumed his normal playing pose and balancing himself with his wings, looking for Vesper to follow suit.

I'll play a song and you watch me, then I'll coach you as you play it yourself." Frost pulled a guitar pick and a sheet of paper from the front of his case, giving Vesper the latter. "That's a chord sheet. Most of these are pretty simple; all you really gotta do is angle your hoof a certain way and hold specific strings to make different sounds. See?" He strummed normally, then held a few of the strings down on the neck of the guitar with his left hoof, strumming once more. "That's a G chord. The horizontal lines on the paper are called frets. Understanding so far?"

Frost's grin widened. "Not bad. I see you have the singing down already." Everything seemed to be progressing quite smoothly as far as he could see, and that was saying a lot. "Next two are the F# Minor and A2 chords." Placing his hoof at the specific frets he was referring to, he played the F#m first, then the A2, and repeated them both a few times. "There are a few more that you need to know before I can show you a good song to play for her, but I think it would be better if you got a feel for the chords yourself." The pegasus handed Vesper his guitar, draping the strap around his neck. "Give it a go, let's see it."
