gaming Your complaints about others' complaints about videogames?

Is there anything you hate people saying, asking, or complaining about for videogames you play?

Mine are:

Is our game coming to an end?

I really hate it when people complain "Is this videogame community dying?" (this happens in the brony community, too). Sure a game may come to an end like Dungeon Fighter Online, but it takes a lot for a game to die.

This game is too repetitive.

I also hate it when people complain about a game's repetitiveness. Sure, a game may be as repetitive as they say, but it's hard to find games that aren't repetitive. After playing a game enough, you'll memorize one map perfectly, or how to perform a certain task perfectly and quickly.

I'd only complain about a game's repetitiveness if new content hasn't been released for months. People complain about games that release content every week/month/few months when the content that's already there is a good enough timesink.

This community is crappy.

I agree, but saying that probably won't make it less crappy.

This is usually said about games like Nexon's games.

Edit:

Others I thought about:

Ugh, why do these people complain about graphics so much?

Now, I'm not attacking people that are annoyed with people saying that graphics are bad. I won't disagree with them that graphics don't really make up a game.

The thing is, though, some games have crappy graphics that you SHOULD go complain about. Some have graphics where it's so lazy, and 80% of the enemies are just lazy reskins of enemies from the areas before. THAT is graphics I would complain about, and I do NOT want people attacking me for pointing things like this out.

I'm neutral on this topic. Sometimes you shouldn't complain, sometimes you should because it's obviously horrible laziness.

Suggestion Forum Topic: Please change this to my liking! The other isn't good and I do not like it!

This one came from the Warframe community. I will not hide that.

There have been so many complaints about people rushing through dungeons that there are now two sides: Explorers and Rushers.

Personally, I am a mix of both while leaning to being a rushers. I like to get my stuff done fast.

This fight has been such an issue, that once the devs decided to nerf one of the mechanics that made the game SLOWER and NOT FLOW at all. Sure they reverted the nerf, but this will forever be remembered in the whole community.

Damnit people, stop fighting. If you don't like how certain people play, get a group of friends who play how you want. If you play with random people, expect a mix of playstyles. It's your fault you're in that group. There's also the option to solo it.

Basically, I hate it when people fight when there are a lot of other options. Fights aren't inevitable you know, and most people should be smart enough to see it coming and have the ability to avoid it.

"The graphics are bad".

Games were made to have fun with! Not to ooh and aah over polygons. I'll play any game if it's entertaining, regardless of graphics. I hear it a lot about Minecraft.

Nexon ruined my life.

Other than that, I hate when people keep saying EA sux. They aren't that bad actually, it's just that people love to hate and try to follow everything everyone hate. So technically EA being a terrible company is most of the time just a medley of stereotypes. Let's face it, Nexon is way worst than EA, you can't find greedier than this.

Well, here are some of mine:

The new Silent Hill games are awful because they're not like the old ones!

-If you don't like the new games, cool, good for you, but don't say it's because they're not exactly like the old games! That's such a stupid reason. Learn to enjoy change, even a little bit.

POKEMON SHOULD HAVE ENDED AT GEN 1!

-Haha, no. They shouldn't have, you people always say shit like this but go out and buy the new game anyway, so stop whining around, and go play your old Gameboys. I don't even like the two first Gens anyway.

THE GRAPHICS LOOK AWFUL! GRAPHICS ARE MAJOR FOR A GAME!

-My friend honestly said this. Graphics aren't even that big of a deal, sure it's nice if a game looks pretty, don't get me wrong. But complaining about not enjoying a game for the graphics is a bit ridiculous.

I'm going to be honest, we would be here all day if I wrote every single complaint about complaints, so those are the three main ones for me.

I agree. My favorite game doesn't even have graphics lol. Most of the good games aren't that great in term of graphics, but they have incredible storyline and gameplay.

People who only care about 1 game from a company.

Every time Atlus releases a game that isn't  persona there is always complaining.

People who say I'll play this game but I'll probably die.

Of course you will with that attitude.

"the grafics suck hur der hur"

Unless they are so bad I can barely tell what the frag is going on than I just don't take this argument seriously. Yes graphics are nice but they don't make a good game the gameplay, controls and the story (depending on the game) make the game.

I feel like the vast majority of complaints people make about Guild Wars 2 are coming from uneducated consumers; people who bought the game expecting it to be WoW 2 or Guild Wars 1.5. "There's no endgame!" That's because there was never supposed to be one, and the entire concept of the bulk of the game being max-level content that you have to play through countless hours of boring, repetitive content to get to as fast as possible in order to reach is one of the stupidest things about other MMORPGs. "There's grind, ANet lied!" The only grind is for cosmetics, you don't have to grind for anything that's mandatory to play any content, i.e., gear, after level 80, and until then, you're actually getting fun gameplay that allows you to level in a huge variety of ways. "There's no trinity, I can't fight!" That's your problem, not ANet's. Get better, baddie.

Actually, the last game I've bought was HeartGold on DS, because it was a remake of the best of the main pokemon games. And believe me, I'm probably more into the Pokemon thing than almost anyone in these forums.

And BW was so terrible they need to make BW2.

- The pokemons were horrible

- The gameplay was terrible.

It is without any doubts the worst main pokemon game ever made.

The pokemon games I am actually playing:

-Pokemon Blue, for its endless amount of glitchs.

-Pokemon LeafGreen, by far my favorite main pokemon game

-Those spinoffs, pokemon mystery dungeon Rescue Team and Explorer.

Also, Gamefreak inserted micro-transactions in Gates to Infinity, and not all the pokemons are here, and the storyline is terrible, also is the gameplay. It is by far the worst pokemon game. And a terrible end to the Mystery Dungeon games. (my favorites :'( )

The 3 first generations were the best, and the 5th is the worst. But with the addition of the Mega-pokemons recently, the Gen6 might be worse, but in term of design it is way better. (OP pokemons everywhere, like if we don't have enough of them)

Also, the kids aren't buying pokemon games anymore, they lost interest in those games. It's usually the old players who still buy them, but myself.

"go play your old Gameboys"

Okay, no problem, the only video games I play for now are on the gameboy and 1st generation DS for Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Blue Rescue Team.

Also, what you wrote was a direct insult to me. :( Pokemons games should continue, but the directions Gamefreak is taking is just wrong. For now I'll be playing the old, the better pokemon games with my friends.

Finally a topic to rant on my ideas of what most complain about.

Here we go:

  • Bad graphics. Graphics don't make a game perfect you know... You could be the best looking game in the world, and still be the worst game in the world.
  • Games being too short. Indie games and shooters have short game play due to multi-player or limitaions.
  • Gamers giving death threats towards problems. Most infamously, Dante's hair in DMC...
  • Too repetitive. Depending on what is repeated, I find it ok as long as it works.
  • No online. People need to learn how to handle it themselves the hard way or don't play at all.
  • No Multi-player. Just because it doesn't have mulit-player, doesn't mean it sucks, especially if it's a single player game...

And that's my two cents.

Well, personally, I thought the old games were awful. And my opinion is not that insulting, you're the one who took over and called it insulting, not my problem. The Gen 4 games had the best designs and Gen 5 had the best stories, at least from my point of view.

The further they go, the less ideas for pokemon they get, but they can still improve on story and whatnot.

That being said, I actually don't mind if they stop making new pokemon (for a while), but keep making new, and good stories.

I liked the characters in the recent games, not the pokemon as much.

Rosa would be my waifu if I didn't already have a waifu in anime. I only want to have one waifu.

Rosa is awesome though. Hilbert and Hilda were, too. I also didn't mind characters from the D&P versions.

They are also improving in terms of music, too. Very much so. That BW2's rival theme. <3

"We have 3D and HD! There's no reason to make 8/16/whatever-bit style games!"

That mentality pisses me off. Following that logic, because Photoshop exists, there's no reason to draw, or paint. Following that logic, because MIDIs exist, there's no reason to plan an instrument. It's a stylistic choice, damn.

"If you play indie games you're a hipster!"

Sure, there's hipster shit in indie gaming, but there's a ton of that crap in the games churned out by big companies fueled by the "imagination" of a board of directors arguing about what to exclude and include because of "demographics". Bioshock, which tries too hard too hard to be meaningful and deep and angsty to hide the fact it's a clunky FPS, for example.

"If you play retro games you're a hipster!"

That might make sense, if it weren't for the fact that retro gaming is anything but obscure. Sorry if liking actual gameplay over firing blindly and waiting for a magical invisible fairy to heal me is "hipster". If anything, you could reverse the logic and say that people who say this are hipsters because "The NES is too mainstream".

"OMG GENWUNNER HIPSTER NOSTALGIATARD PLAY THE NEW POKEMON GAMES"

Sorry, but no. The creativity's gone, and at this point they're just beating a dead horse. The Pokemon don't even look like Pokemon anymore. They look like Neopets and Digimon. In my opinion, G3 was the last original generation. Now, they just try to copy the design features of old Pokemon (OMG SLAP TWO MORE HEADS ON IT! THAT WORKED BEFORE!) because the creativity ran dry and they can't think of anything new. People have a right to an opinion. Don't flip out when a lot of us dislike the direction Pokemon went. Not everybody has to have the same opinion, geez. Both sides have problems, but I'll say most of the Pokemon "new vs. old" drama begins when somebody says something about "those crappy old games".

"This game is bad because a "internet reviewer" said it is!"

I see this a lot, especially with AVGN. Sure, he does some reviewing, but remember, above all, he's a comedian. He's going to exaggerate things. James Rolfe is an actor. The AVGN is a character. Form your own opinions. Some of the games these "reviewers" do videos on are actually enjoyable.

This was an insult I guess.

And instead of creating new pokemons, they could work a bit better on their storylines, because they are actually awful, except for the two first Mystery Dungeon games, which are probably the best pokemon games to date. (People usually don't like these games, because they can't beat Zapdos in the first and then give up. Or they can't get past the desert in the second.)

Also more sidequests, instead of filling this hollow hole of emptyness with useless features.

Most people I know don't usually find that insulting, but sure. I have a Mystery Dungeon Game and I'm going to be honest here...I only play them for the quizzes at the beginning, after that it immediately loses my interests. I don't really find the storylines that bad, if I were to be honest. But I can guess you're not even going to try out X and Y, are you? Those are probably the only reason (along with select other games) that I'm going to buy a 3DS.

Man, I should have known this thread wouldn't be sitting on these forums long before some genwunner came in and ruined the fun.

Sorry man, but I don't like this term you are using here. Having a preference for older pokemon games and liking first gen pokemons isn't a bad thing.

I'll try to avoid pokemon topic next time, I tend to ferociously defend my point of view :/

Now let's move on, I guess...

This game sux because I read a review about it and it's terrible.

Wow. First of all, this guy, doing the review, doesn't have the same taste as you. So why don't you rent this game instead, or ask someone who own this game? I have seen reviews about Mystery Dungeon Blue Rescue Team, being 1 out of 10. But it's actually my 2nd favorite game lol.

And most of the time, same thing with music, the people who do the review of stuff only have a talent in writing. So they have few to no knowledge about video games (or music). And they know that people love to hate, so they often exaggerate the rating. Giving a terribly bad rating for a game just because of few unnimportant flaws or giving a skyrocketing rate to a game that isn't that game (happened with Tetris).

In these cases, the only one you can trust is yourself.

It annoys me when people are like "Call of duty is lame! Gay! Hahahah!" then they go out and buy it on the launch date.

Pokémon annoys me. Or should I say the kids in my school annoy me. In my school, I remember being in 4th or 5th grade and it was still cool since Firered/Leafgreen just came out. However, I remember being made fun of by the popular kids for playing Diamond/Pearl and stuff. However, last year at school EVERY day I saw the exact same popular kids playing ruby/sapphire/ect. hacked onto their smart phones. Apparently now old Pokémon games are all "cool and retro". They're all like "Pokémon is so cool!" even though they were the exact ones making fun of it for the last 6 years or so. *sigh*, people annoy me.

"Insert game here" ruined the series

Yes because one game you didn't like can ruin an entire franchise.

"Insert character here" ruined the series

The graphics sucks so the game sucks

Yes because the look of the game can ruin the game

This game is too repetitive.

I also hate it when people complain about a game's repetitiveness. Sure, a game may be as repetitive as they say, but it's hard to find games that aren't repetitive. After playing a game enough, you'll memorize one map perfectly, or how to perform a certain task perfectly and quickly.

I'm not sure you understand what "repetitive" means. It doesn't mean "I played this enough to memorize it!"

Stealth runs in gaming generally require repeated levels to pull of flawlessly (unless you're very good) but are not repetitive for it.

Alternatively, you've got Pac-man. Same thing, all the time, by design. Or, to use a less obvious example, something like Legacy of Kain: Defiance. The formula for that game was [puzzle room, switch characters, puzzle room, switch back, combat room, switch, combat room, switch] repeated for most of the game. Or, say, an open-world game will get complaints for repetition if the missions start getting too clone-ish. It's not because the player memorized it, it's because the developers failed to design variety.

That said, to the topic: "This game has too many bugs/glitches!"

I hate this complaint. And every time I hear it, I just roll my eyes. Bugs just aren't a very solid criticism. "Oh, your game was full of bugs? I have the same game, never hit a single problem. What were you complaining about again? Your bad luck?"

I found ONE bug in Skyrim, not even a game breaker, and supposedly Bethesda is king of bugs. Bugs and such are ultimately a crapshoot that comes down to luck, and it's not the game's fault if your luck is bad. Plus many who complain about bugs play games at release, or even pre-release builds. Their complaints don't hold up if everyone else plays a patched-up version.

(Note: I actually hit my first game breaker in Arkham City and had to restart the game about halfway through. A quick Google search showed that nobody else had hit this particular problem so complaining about the bug would have been a nitpick at best.)

Basically, people feel grinding or farming in a game is repetitive. Or maybe they play a game like TF2 and get tired of the same map.

Maybe they play WoW and have gotten tired of all of the content.

Grinding and farming are repetitive but they're also not mandatory in any game. Grinding and farming are repetition by choice.

Now, WoW is actually made for repetition and grinding as part of its strategy of brainwashing addiction. (Seriously, it's designed to addict you. It's called the Skinner box.)

But people who go into grindy games or MMOs know what they bought. They lose any right to complaint at that point.

Now, something like Assassins' Creed 1...That wasn't a grinder game or an MMO. Hell, it looked to be a pretty open world. But nowadays the biggest complaint against it is that it was repetitive as hell. And it was.

Having a preference for older pokemon games and liking first gen pokemons isn't a bad thing.

Well now, that depends on the reasoning...Which leads me to another complaint-about-a-complaint.

All too often, I find a Gen One lover whose excuse is "Pokemon were original back then!" ...Really? There were four or five mice, a handful of plants, a dash of birds, and a littering of various cats. That's hardly original. More recent designs may be ugly as sin but they are still plenty original.
