Hah, I used to joke around with friends back in Japanese class (Which all I remember was the anime & Food)

Saying that one  Kanji symbol would mean something like: Long ago, my grandfather was a sailer. He gave birth to a child and named him Joe. They moved across to Africa and it snowed. 

Point was, there seemed like a lot of those symbols for just about anything!

My mom is learning German for like full two years now. Right now, she has a German teacher who would teach her every Friday over the web via Skype...

 

If I were to have a foreign teacher who would talk and teach me over Skype, I would probably die of a lethal dosage of shyness...

Kanji is in the japanese alphabet, though they got the characters from the chinese's...from what I heard

Yeah, Kanji are Chinese characters and Katakana is used for foreign words and names.
