I didn't know there was a stallion body type when I was new to this. I thought they were using the same models. And Rainbow Dash's traits can be very masculine. Competitiveness and athleticism are usually masculine where I grew up. I mean, women can possess those traits too, but it's not normal (from my perspective) for a woman to be as purely competitive as Rainbow Dash. On top of that, I thought the characters were all preteen or maybe 10 human equivalent years old when I was a new brony because of their target market. Yes her voice sounds feminine. But every young boy's does. Timmy Turner would be a prime example of this. I really had no way of knowing for sure when I was a new brony. I didn't watch the show in order when I started out. I just kinda picked and chose. And it was a while before I heard Rainbow Dash be referred to by a feminine pronoun. I can very easily see how someone could mistake Rainbow Dash for a male.

I guess I can understand then.

 

 I watched it from episode one, and since Twilight was obviously female, and looked feminine, and the rest of the mane six had the same body type, it was just kinda obvious to me they were all mares. Plus, Dash seemed "Feminine" in a way too. Not just because of the body type and her voice, but also because her name sounds like a mare's name to me.

 

 I would have been completely shocked if she'd turned out to be a guy though.
