Even Owl's Well That Ends Well? :eww:

I did not like that episode. It was just so dull lol

I'd also argue that Putting Your Hoof Down was a bad episode too, but I do enjoy it. Call it a guilty pleasure :)

B-b-but...I loved that episode...

And hello, Hugemlpfimfan1919 and OD!

So do I.

But from a more critical standpoint, it wasn't very good. And I might ruin the episode for you so you don't have to read the spoiler. Just know that if I'm going to look at it more critically than from an enjoyment perspective, it's not a good episode to me.

I know Flutters was supposed to cross the line, but she really cranked it up to 11 by insulting her best friends based on the very meaning of their lives. They had no reason to continue being her friend yet they seem to immediately forgive her and not blame her for acting the way she was acting. Granted it wasn't entirely her fault, but she was, in large part, at fault because advice is advice. You can do what you want with it - ignore it or take it to the extreme. Iron Will wasn't holding a gun to her head telling her to insult the existence of her friends. She made that choice, even if she was out of character. They just took going too far too far if you know what I mean. I liked it. The topic wasn't a bad one and this was before it was beaten to death. But they could have handled it more delicately.

Doesn't mean I don't like the episode lol

Oh, I'm sorry. I posted that before you edited your post to mention Putting Your Hoof Down. I was referring to Owl's Well That Ends Well.

I agree with you on Putting Your Hoof Down. Fluttershy's shyness is what I love about her, so seeing her act like a brute was...off-putting.

Ah lol Well I still didn't care for Owl's Well. But to each their own, I guess :muffins:

What bugged me with Owl's Well is that it wasn't good but it wasn't bad. It was just safe. They didn't really take any risks, and that's what I appreciate about Putting Your Hoof Down. They took a risk and flopped but at least they took a risk. Owl's Well just did everything right in my opinion, and doing everything right doesn't necessarily make a good episode. But it will keep you from making a bad episode.

I like to see writers being risky. Sometimes they fail, but sometimes we get some truly great episodes like Hurricane Fluttershy. They played her insecurity card. They got into some deep emotions. Hurricane Fluttershy did everything right and took risks at the same time. When you can pull that off, you get a masterpiece. That is what I consider the Hey Jude of MLP episodes :)

But if a writer never fails as a writer, that person can never improve. But that's just if you ask me :)
