Okay, wtf is wrong with Steam?? Why the heck is it downloading Workshop mods like:

downloading at 64bytes/s for 2 seconds

Pausing for 10 seconds

downloading at 64bytes/s for 2 seconds

Pausing for 10 seconds

...

:unamused:

 Gotta love it.

It took me 15 minutes to download Undertale to my Linux machine the other night. It's only like 100 megs.

Welcome to American internet.

You can grease up your speeds with a little (lot) of $$$$

Could be worse. Filly says it's downright awful in the Philippines.

Yeah. In the good ol US of A, gigabit internet is the stuff dreams are made of. Expensive as a mortgage payment. We pay roughly the equivalent of 51€ a month to get [unreliably] 16 Mbps.

Holy fucking shit! O_O

I can get 100MBit/s here for around 35€!

(only got 1GBit/s because University internet, it's not offered to consumers)

Just to give you an idea of the prices: (this is just! DSL (meaning internet + phone ; no tv or whatever)

Yeah. Downloading a AAA game on steam is an overnight thing. You make sure Windows doesn't put your computer to sleep and let it go overnight. I let GTA V go overnight and it wasn't done by the time I woke up.

This is the fastest internet I've ever had. I've got my hopes up for Google Fiber.

Google Fiber is still gonna be expensive af I'd assume.

$70 a month. Cox offers gigabit speeds but for about $120 a month.

I'd venture a guess $70 = 57€ and $120 = 100€

Wow, that's actually cheap!

(why do you only have 1 word for both billig and günstig? >:C English disappoints once again)

16 Mbps is pretty close to all we need for day to day web surfing and email. But downloading games SUUUUUUCKS. If we made a little more money, we'd step it up to 50 Mbps. But as it stands I'm paying on a car, credit card, and a student loan sooooo

Gotta cut corners where we can.

What's the word?

So is one to describe a person who is stingy with money and the other is used to describe something that is not expensive?

Buying cheap oats makes me cheap!

What I don't understand is why you guys need a minimum of three different words to say "the."

Maybe it's easier when you grow up with it. :muffins:

wow, Duden actually lists billig and günstig as synomys... but I learned there's a difference.

basically, billig == cheap. something simply doesn't cost much ; it's also has a negative connotation

but günstig isn't exactly "cheap" (although as Duden says they're synonyms, I guess they are and günstig just has a positive connotation) ; but I remember being taught that günstig doesn't mean it is cheap in itself, but that the price-performance ratio is excellent ; basically say, you got 1 apple for 1€, but 10 apples for 9€. That doesn't make the apples cheap, but makes the 10-pack günstig, as I'm saving a € :derp:

or something along those lines, it's kinda hard to explain xD

Ah. We use cheap to describe people too. Someone who doesn't like to spend money. Someone who will always buy off brand stuff that may be kinda sketchy just to save 7 cents. That person is cheap. Now someone who won't give money to someone who needs it more is a scrooge, but that really only applies to rich people. Negative connotations for both. I guess it's in how you say it. Like, if someone has a TV for $800 and someone else has the same TV for $650, that TV is cheap. Expensive also carries various connotations depending on how it's used. Really, a lot of it isn't necessarily what you say, but how you say it.

From what i hear, German is a very literal language :)

Like, you just say what you mean, right?
