Yooo

Not dead yet. :twi:

Just really busy.

I've spent probably 30 hours in a car over the past 7 days.

Also, my brother called me earlier this week saying, "Hey, how hot is my PC supposed to be?" I answered, "Well if it's around 100 degrees, you should probably turn it off and let me take a look at it." Now my brother is a user, not a builder. He hardly knows diddly squat about building PC's. He just really appreciates the one I built him (even if it's just a spare parts rig).

Him: Oh. Well it's about 98 degrees right now and it was at about 105 degrees earlier.

Me: Yeah, if it's about 100 degrees Celsius, then it's overheating. Turn it off and let me take a look at it. I mean, 80 is pretty high, but not worrisome, but definitely don't use it if it's 100 degrees.

Him: Ok.

Fast forward to tonight, and I'm taking a look at it. I notice in BIOS that yeah - it's running about 85 degrees on a cold start. So I log into Windows and everything is telling me it's much cooler than that. So I write it off as an error in BIOS since the heatsink is ice cold and the fans are silent.

Then I get back into BIOS to make sure his buddy who gave him an SSD did the transfer right. I'm positive he did since he works with computers for a living. He's a white hat hacker. Incredibly intelligent so I didn't doubt his work. Just double checking that everything works as intended. Well I look up and it says 98 Fahrenheit/37 Celsius.

He was reading me temps in Fahrenheit.

I read the Fahrenheit temp.

Why does this UEFI even have the temp in Fahrenheit?

Who tf is building and monitoring a PC and using FAHRENHEIT?

So yeah, I feel like an idiot.

Hey Woona.

Who was saying something about their country being great because they use imperial and are the only country to get to the moon? :)

I mean, who uses °F?

Bahamas, Belize, the Cayman Islands, Palau and the United States and associated territories (Puerto Rico, Guam and the U.S. Virgin Islands).

Canada retains it as a supplementary scale that can be used alongside Celsius.

...and our media seems to use it when it's hot "what a scorcher as thermometer hits 90°" 'cos 90>>32 (stupid newspapers) :|

BPkVX23CYAAvV86.jpg

and then they'll use °C when it's cold.

I wonder why they don't use kmh when giving windspeed of storms 🤔

As long as you don't mix up your imperial and metric, ahem

Or think you've loaded x kilos of fuel on your aircraft and only loaded x pounds of fuel. Air Canada 143

:okiedokieloki:

You make it sound like i insta-reject other ideas

But had you read it you'd have noticed it's some propaganda bullshit

It was about Merkels new year speech and their comments were like "she betrayed us, illegally opened the borders and let all the criminal foreigners in blablabla"

While themselves talking about "Merkels interpretation of reality"

I mean, i don't approve of her either but that's seriously ridiculous

Well that's true tho

And while good for ideology, i don't think it's that good to only be in your bubble, although that's a lot easier than letting other world views muddy yours

That's one reason i disapprove Facebook and co, they bubble you (let me just invent that verb here)

I even recently read the ex-manager or something of Facebook said that he thinks that fb is "destroying society"

Now let me add, just because i say that doesn't mean I'm innocent from staying in my bubble either

I only read the 98 degrees because that's the kind of number I was looking for. I've never seen a UEFI tell you your CPU temp in anything but Celsius...

Which is funny because from about 2013 thru 2015, this was my primary motherboard. :adorkable: I should have known about that quirk.

So yeah, I diagnosed a perfectly healthy working PC.
