I can see that. Being disappointed that you didn't get what you were promised is reasonable. But a lot of people seem to only think about what they didn't get and not what they did. I've even seen some people call it the worst episode of the show simply because it wasn't about the games, not even bothering to mention what did actually happen in it.

 

 And I think the entire arc itself was flawed. As much as I liked them all as individual episodes, the arc itself didn't do that well with me. It's not bad it's just...didn't really seem like it was leading to that much. I was actually pleasantly surprised by the episode.

Well, most people have I have seen give that episode two different ratings. One for the spike episode itself (as in they ignore anything pertaining to the games, and just rate it on spikes interaction with other characters) and another rating for the episode as a whole. I personally felt like using the games as the backdrop was kind of a waste, they could have used the event to play into a much larger and more important act than spike learning a personal lesson.

I suppose that's what they could have done. I just think it's a bit silly to only judge an episode based off of what could have happened. Which is my main problem, the people who's only thoughts have to do with what didn't happen and not what did.

Well, the episode has larger flaws than just not showing the games.

Other than the great moral at the end, the entire thing was kinda a sloppy mess. And it's pacing was off even for FiM standards.

I didn't have any problem with it's pacing. It felt fine to me.

 

 That seems to be common with me though. Pacing in general just seems to feel fine to me unless it's really bad.
