If I recall, Hasbro used to have programming all the time in T-W networks, so a transition there I don't think would be a huge issue. If anything, it would benefit both parties in the end.

ohaiwolf! :) (there really needs to be a smeel emoticon!)

If you noticed, the new Transformers show will be on Cartoon Network. If that's a sign, then Hasbro will likely try to get away from Discovery Family, especially considering Discovery's programming choices and the fact that they're still much more limited in distribution than CN.

And knowing Discovery, there is a definite chance breaking from Hasbro could kill Discovery Family.

Edit: I doubt a new network will be launched, based on the competition, but seeing as Hasbro is already phasing in their programming, MLP could grow to ridiculous proportions.

Sad thing is, that could actually become a possibility.

Edit: Now the only question is, if there is a full shift of programming, what would the programming schedule look like?

In the ratings, yes. However, the channel won't go away completely. Discovery will probably hang onto it and run it into the ground, or make another attempt to rebrand it, rather than selling off the channel space like they should. Edited by Nightwind Boreas

They've tried to fix that network how many times now?

The Wall Street Journal article states that Discovery has rebranded their channels more often in the last decade than all of its competitors combined!

Discovery Kids -> Hub Network -> Discovery Family

Discovery Health -> Oprah Winfrey Network

Discovery HD Theater -> Velocity

Discovery Wings -> Military Channel -> American Heroes Channel

There are probably many others that I'm missing!

Such as quasi-merging FitTV and Discovery Health into Discovery Fit and Health. Regardless, I think if Hasbro was to get their own network, they could survive, but they wouldn't be the powerhouse Cartoon Network is.

On the contrary, that's one of the things that killed the Hub. Other than the toy franchises, reruns, and imports, there wasn't any truly original programming on the channel, shows like The Aquabats! and Dan Vs. were completely out-of-place on the channel's lineup, and the channel was in trouble with the advertisers because of Hasbro's penchant for self-promotion. In fact, that was the cause of friction between the heads of programming at the Hub and the suits at Hasbro, and led to their downfall.

The Hub was Hasbro's own network. They were fully responsible for programming. Under the old agreement, Discovery was only responsible for channel space and ad sales.

Now the question is, when does everything take shape. Hasbro's going to want their money, and seeing nothing positive about the new arrangement between them and Discovery, does it mean they jump ship ASAP and go elsewhere, or do they ride it out for a bit and see where it goes?

That's a question only Hasbro can definitively answer. Right now it seems as if they're playing both strategies. They're ordering the new Transformers show to CN, possibly shopping their other shows around as well, but they're taking their time doing it. For now, we'll see how the premiere of Rainbow Rocks as well as Season 5 do in the ratings.
