Insomniacs Unite! :)

So, I know you're out there, a bunch of night owls hooting about at night yet still waking up at a reasonable hour in the mornings. :D

This isn't a thread to criticize or celebrate insomniacs, but just a chillin' thread for insomniacs I suppose. It's a little late where I am now, and I guess I'd like a bit of company, as I'm sure many of you do too!

So, to get things started, I have a couple of questions for you guys. Have you always been an insomniac? Why are you an insomniac? Or do you not really know? Are you the kind that can't fall asleep at night, or the kind that wakes up after stepping but a foot into dreamland? Maybe you're both, like I used to be. Just share your thoughts, stories, and experiences relating to the late hours of the night!

It's an interesting coincidence you posted this because I was just thinking how much trouble it is for me to fall asleep.

I screwed up my sleep cycle over the summer so when I am suppose to go to sleep I can't sleep until early in the morning. This sucks...

Well right now it's 5 am xD

I've been an insomniac ever since I started high school. The reason behind it is, I used to get bullied a lot and inevitably I used to stay awake at night dreading the next day of school and for some reason I had it in my head that the longer I stayed awake, the longer it took till it was time to go to school. Heheh *rubs neck* Kinda silly, right?

The insomniac symptom has been with me for a long time my friend.

I have always suffered from that, and never got to realize the purpose why.

Even though, I usually just play or chat online if I can most of the times.

Hello, I'm Nomadic and I am a insomniac.

While it's not late where I am currently, it's about 9:15 p.m., I do consider myself an insomniac. Usually, I sleep roughly about 2 hours a night, and his do to my sheer amount of caffeine consumption, roughly around 6-8 "cups" of coffee a day. On the plus side, I do enjoy night more often then the day. Everything about the night is so peaceful to me, excluding my neighbours grrrr. Anyways, that is all I have to say. If anyone needs me I'll be drinking my eighth cup of joe in the corner over there, k.

I've always been really good at staying up late. I feel that no matter how much sleep I get I still feel tired when I have to wake up in the morning. I always have this feeling that I'm missing time I could be doing other things when I'm asleep. Sleeping is just a waste of time.

My mind is constantly running and I find it hard to calm down my brain long enough to relax so instead I just stay up until it's almost impossible not to sleep.

As a result my days always suck, or at least the mornings do. I can barely get out of bed and I feel like I can sleep forever. I live off of coffee, it's not the caffeine that keeps me going, just having a nice warm drink is very relaxing and coffee tastes good. I guess it does keep me from feeling too tired during the day and helps me focus during class.

I classify myself as an insomniac since, I always feel so tired in the morning and my mind can't stay focused especially when I stay up 24/7 on the forums then my mind starts to wander around. Someone would have to dunk a bucket of cold water on me to wake me up.

Insomnia has been with me since 2007, when I came back home after a vacation to Colorado. My body never properly readjusted itself for eastern time and since then, insomnia has taken such a hold over me I can barely sleep without a sleeping aid. I haven't really done anything to counter the influence.

I usually have severe trouble falling asleep, it seems. I could feel tired, but as soon as my head hits the pillow, I'm wide awake. It doesn't matter how much sleep I receive, I will always be tired.

Hey, I'm actually an insomniac since forever. :)

It usually take me around four hours to fall asleep. I think too much it seems. I love to think, I do this all day long, and all night long.

And I usually wake up at, well it vary actually. Between eight in the morning to eleven.

But luckily, it's my favorite time ofthe day, where I can relax and don't be bothered by everyone. It's so peaceful...

But sadly, since my parents room is just in front of mine, I can't do any sounds. I'd love to draw or read, but I can't. And my iPod can only last for about one hour.

Well, it's one in the morning here, I guess I'll visit other forums.

Good Night ;)

I tend to stay up late when I can do it. I seem to actually be more tired if I don't, which is why I'm one of the people that prefers to work graveyard. Not honestly sure why, it may have to do with the fat that I'm nervous and awkward around people, and most people are asleep (In my timezone.) at that time, but the night is peaceful and quiet. Being a huge introvert, it's just more comfortable for me at night.

I have never ever been able to sleep until well after midnight. It used to be that I would be tortured in my room, trying to fall asleep. However, now I can use the computer at night, since they're in the basement now. Currently, I've just really screwed up my sleep cycle. I usually fall asleep right after the sun comes up. This really sucks, because I start college in less than a week. This will certainly be a fun school year.

It really depends. On days where I actually am tired I go to sleep in a blink of an eye. But on days like today, I just CAN'T GO TO SLEEP! I come on the forums because I eventually get tired of tossing and turning and battling with sleep. I find that using my phone actually makes me tired and sleepy after a couple hours. Lately I've been staying up till 3 AM and the weird part is I'm still very bright and energetic the next day. I woke up at 8 AM today no problem. My sleep system's really messed up

It gets worse when you become an old fart like me. I actually kick myself now for all those night that I stayed up until 5 am just frittering around on the internet. Now I actually wish I could go to bed around midnight and wake up at 8 am and not be tired. I mean I've had to make major life changes just so I can get up in the morning like everyone else. I try to exercise and make myself eat plenty of fruits and vegetables and melatonin also helps, but even then I still like to have a five hour energy drink right when I get out of bed... but those things are so expensive, especially if you're needing one every morning, though I guess the same is true for coffee drinkers.

Bottom line kids, don't be like me... stop watching anime and go to bed on time like your parents told you! Your future self will thank you for it.

What if you were like that without the anime (little or no tv access), regardless of lack of mind distracting content, and attempts by your parents to drug you into going to sleep on time? :P

Used to stay up and steal a book from my sister to read (when i was 4.... heh) or just wander about the house aimlessly most of the night as if looking for something.

YEARS later my father finally did explain one thing to me... Apparently the house had its own "Show room" where they'd show family members bodies before the funerals, and keep them until burial... Always wondered why the one room felt odd...

Not sure i believe in the whole ghosts thing, but I swear things were odd about that room.. strange lights, sounds, and the usual corner of the eye crap....

I had the whole midnight programming problem going on ever since 5th grade or so when I wrote my first lines of code over a decade ago... I'd been doing really well with sleep for the past couple of years that I've been in college, but lately it's been slipping... I can't sleep now because when I go to bed, my body starts trembling and my heart rate goes zebonkers. odd... :/ feels like I'm really nervous or something... I really do wish I could sleep properly again. :P

So, all in all, I agree with you :) That sleep stuff is really important :D

Heh. Hehe. HAHAHA!

You honestly believe I get up...in the mornings?! That's rich!

I didn't do this in the past, where I would stay up until 4 AM consistently every night, and then wake up at 12-1 PM the next day. The latest I would go was 3 AM, and I would always get up before noon. This summer, though....well, I'm going to have issues with school for the first couple of weeks. Considering my trouble with relaxing enough to fall asleep (my mind wanders off into fantasyland before knocking itself out), it isn't going to be pretty.

Why did this happen? I blame my friends who stayed up till 4-5 AM long before I did. This summer, I was actually able to accomodate, and now...well, I guess I was converted.

It's also so much more quiet and dark (duh?) at night. Nighttime is when I get the best part of my work done, and primarily when I post stuffs on the interwebz. For example, I made the entirety of a Quantitative Analysis lab powerpoint after my roommate had already gone to bed at 11 PM. When It's quiet, dark, and no one's making a fuss outside the door, I can focus on the only source of light in the room: my computer screen, and whatever is on it at the time. Put on some ambient music, and I've got prime thinkin' conditions.

Then again, I do mostly the same things during the day. But right now, there's really nothing screaming at me saying "HEY! GO TO BED!" I'm not tired, nor do I need to wake up for anything. Why should I go to bed, when I can enjoy myself on the internet? The thing is, is that even if I do wake up between 9 and 10 AM (which is very strange because then it feels like the day lasts fucking FOREVER), I still go to bed after 3 AM. Again, no obligation or reason to sleep before then, or any feeling of sleepiness.

Well, it's about to turn over into 3 AM here. This time, though, I will be going to sleep soon, since I'm going to start rectifying this problem. Bright and early, I get up at 10 AM tomorrow. It'll be fun!

It's currently 4pm where I live.  Although I got to bed around 5-6am last night.  I messed up my back and I've been stuck in bed the entire week with nothing to do, taking naps whenever I want and it's completely screwed up my sleep cycle.

I'm not an insomniac, but I do most of my brony activities at night in the safety of my room. Usually I'll stay up to 3AM surfing the web (usually ponies), but I'll occasionally go up to 4... but I better sleep after that since I'm sure some of my family will be waking up in an hour before getting up!

I had a dream last night that I was in Io with a few ponies (I think one of the cutie mark crusaders was one of them)... I can't remember the rest lol.

Welp, here I am, at 10 AM, just like I said I would be. It's...brighter than I thought it would be. The sun comes through the large window we have in the living room up until about 11 AM, as well has the bedroom across from mine. It's a strange sight.

Now, let's see if I have any trouble staying awake today.

I'm screwed, I was feeling tired at 10pm for once, so I fell asleep, just woke up now and it's 1am and I'm wide awake.

I just took a damn nap...
