open Gender Conundrum

Charcoal Embers

Recommended Posts

@,

Max was brought out of his pondering when a mare broke free from her cage. And a colt a few cells left of him provided a bobby pin to use as an additional lock pick. But before he could question that, he heard Star call his name again, albeit, rather softly. Well, since he couldn't do anything to contribute to an escape, he might as well comfort his friend.

"Star, it's OK. Everything is going to be just fine. I've seen you face scarier situations then this. Just remain calm and we will make it out of this." The colt's eyes widened at a sudden idea he got. He unfolded his left wing as much as he could in his cage, and used his teeth to pull out a large feather. With a grunt of pain, he spat the feather out of his cage.

"Ma'am, you think you could use the end of that as a lock pick?"

Charcoal took the feather and looked it over. "Maybe, these are much stronger than my feathers. I'll give it a try." Taking the feather she inserts it into the lock and begins her process of feeling and listening again. It took a little longer since she wasn't used to using a feather, but she was finally able to get the lock open.

@@Charcoal Embers,

Max watched with a mixture of eagerness and interest as the mare worked his lock with the feather he provided. When she finally got it open, he stepped out, taking a minute to stretch his legs and wings. After his limbs were popped and loose, he adjusted his fedora and trotted over to Star's cage.

"Alright, let's see about getting you out of there."

Having gotten everypony out of the cages she looks around for a way out. Seeing only one door she walks over and cracks it open, taking a peek to see if anyone else was out there. After not seeing anything she turns around to face the others. "Alright, follow me and everyone stay close together and if you can grab anypony that is still asleep." She begins to walk out the door, placing her hooves down carefully with each step as to not make a sound.

"Just yell if you have any trouble." Scribe nodded grimly: once again having found himself in a situation where he was surrounded by ponies and in danger.

"I mean, get attacked or anything. We're all in trouble right now." He clarified needlessly and he tried to stay central where he could see most of the group.

As Charcoal walked into the next room there was a voice over the loudspeaker, it was that stallion from before. "Oh good you all are awake. Or most of you it seems, I was starting to get impatient waiting for you to wake up. And you seem to have saved me the trouble of having to open your cages myself. I was really starting to be hard pressed to find a way to get you all in there and get out as well. Just then a buzzing sound could be heard in the room and a panel opens up on the roof to reveal a laser of some sort and it was trained right at them. Before Charcoal could even think about getting out of the way they were all shot by it. Charcoal wasn't hurt by it but it definitely made her feel strange as she passed out again, unsure whether or not the rest of the group did.

"Stop doing tha...!"

Scribe didn't even have time to throw up a shield this time - it probably wouldn't have helped anyway, not against something like that.

'Woah...'

"That's... a new feeling...?" He muttered as he swayed on his hooves: meaning to leap forward in front of the group but only succeeding in falling face first onto the ground.

Charcoal slowly woke up. She felt strange, like she wasn't the same as she was before. Getting up on shaky hooves she took in her surroundings. They were in a completely different room as they were before. This one almost looked like regular old room you would find in a lot of houses. Minus the fact that they were in cages again. She noticed something was off about the group of mares she was with before but chose to ignore it so she could concentrate on trying to open the lock. Problem was, her bag was on the other side of the room. "Great now we really are stuck here." She mumbled to herself. Only something was off, that was her voice. Getting up she tried to see if she could see why but it is kind of hard to look at yourself so she looked to see if there was a mirror or something. Seeing one convinently places beside the cage. Looking into it she was shocked to find that her face was much different then it usually was. It was all square now, like stallions. Her mane and tail were also much shorter than before. "How is it that I've turned into a stallion?" She asked outloud in shock.

"Aaaaahhhahh! What the BUCK!?" Bellowed a feminine voice in a most un-feminine fashion.

It had taken a minute or two after waking up for the surprise to set in. Then turn to shock. Then to panic.

"What the..!? I... Why... What the hay is going on!? What happened? Why am I...?"

The armour was far too loose: no surprise really - he had recently lost a good deal of body mass. He pulled frantically at the straps to tighten them back into place, desperate for some sense of normality.

"This is weird! Too weird! I'm a... I'm a mare?" He panicked loudly.

Steel had followed the ponies into the room after the cages were opened. He didn't have time to react as the laser hit them and he fell to the ground.

Steel woke up a while later back in some cages "Just great" when those words were uttered he noticed his voice was feminine that of a mares. "Oh my Celestia" she said "What have they done?!" She screamed out loud

"Hey hey, calm down." Charcoal said. It was weird not having his normal feminine voice but he had st stay calm. "Look it's alright, there is no need to panic. You don't see me panicking do you? Now just calm down, you are only going to hurt yourself if you keep that up."

"I'm... I'm..." Scribe stammered: this wasn't like the monsters and such he knew how to face. Levitating one of the mirrors closer to the cage, she fell silent for a minute, twisting and turning in confusion.

"... I look good!" She smirked.

Oh sweet Celestia, we kind of have more pressing concerns right now! Like how to get turned back?'

She finished tightening the last few loose straps and felt better to once again have something between herself and the world. Shaking her head, she turned back to what she assumed was Charcoal.

"Please tell me you can get us out of these cages too? I need some fresh air..."

"Sorry I can't." Charcoal said. "They thought to take my bag thus time and my bag has all of my tools in it. I can't open the lock without them. Unless I had something small like paperclips then I could use to of those to open it but I don't have any of those." Charcoal leaned back against the side of the cage and sighed. "Well this sure escalated quickly."

Frost was hit by the laser and blacked out shortly. When he woke up he noticed some new, but familiar looking ponies, yet he was on a daze. "Who are yoooooouuuu ponies?" he asked in a loopy tone before shaking his head. Wait?....did he say that, he couldnt have that was a mares voice. He shrugged it of and looked at Cinder and Charcoal "Unmmm.....what happened to you two?" he asked, aware of his changes still thinking he was in a daze of some sort.

Charcoal looked and saw that Frost was awake. "Same thing that happened to you. Have you looked in a mirror recently? If you haven't you might want to. If you have, you still might want you. All I know now is that we are going to have some paniced ponies pretty soon. He turns back to Cinder. "Say Cinder, if that armour is too big would you like me to adjust it for you when we get the chance?"

Frost was confused at her comment and pulled out his music player to look in the screen. When he looked he saw a mare with the same features as he did. She dropped the player and it shattered when it hit the ground. "Celestia! What happened." she said as she tryed to calm her breathing, but failed

Tempest groaned as he woke up. He twisted tp get a better view of himself and fpund out that he had also turned into a mare. "This is... interesting." She said. Her hair had grown longer and his body and face had more of a curve.

Ivy woke up and noticed that her body had changed as well. "You have got to be kidding me." He said. The silver unicorn then shrugged and glanced at Charcoal. "So, how are we going to get out of here?"

"How am I the only one freaking out about this?" Scribe Shouted over the calm voices.

"I'm not supposed to be a mare!" She declared. "Really? None of you are freaked out? Just a little?!"

The calmness might have been getting to Scribe more than the actual situation: it gave everything an eery, dreamlike quality.

Frost shook her head and shrugged. "Well there are a lot worse things we could have been turned into like para sprites. Besides this body has its "perks". She said liftin her eyebrows and smirking at Cinder scribe in a joking manner as he continued to admire his looks

Skitter run finally couldn't take it anymore

"everypony shut up"

Something was wrong but he couldn't place a hoof on it . So he open one eye and looked around.

"wooah what happened last night did we drink to muc... Why is my voice so high pitch??"

Skitter run opened his other eye and looked at the other ponys

" why do you look like that?"

His eyes widen.

"OH MY CELESTIA NO. Does anypony have a mirror?

The voice of the pony was familiar: differant of course - it was female - but clearly the pony who had been joking earlier.

"I guess so..." Scribe said uneasily before a sudden insight of humor. She smirked widely. "Oh, hey, watch!"

She lifted a hoof and flicked her head about dramatically. "Don't I look fabulous!" She declared, echoing Frost's line from earlier before bursting into a fit of sniggering.

'I give up! You're an idiot Scribe... Huh, I still sound male in my head. Weird.'

Skitter saw one pony joking and he turned towards her.

"hey you what do I look like"

He looked at the mare a bit closer

"-that's the guy who was wearing armor"

And then he/she looked at the black stallion

"- and that's charcoal.. Wait what why is everypony a different gender.-"

He/she smacked himself.

"Uh... Would you be offended if I said 'better than before'?" Scribe ventured. "I mean, this is terrible and everything but there's no denying that we look pretty good..." She smirked.

When in doubt, fall back on good old humour. There was a light side at least, even if her head was still spinning with confusion.

"Not again" moan Icy as she wake up scratching her head.

Something was odd. Most of the others were up already, but the voices were different. Maybe more ponies then just them got tricked too.

"This is so not funny" she said. Then she was silent. Her voice, that wasn't her voice.

"Hello" He said out loud. It was male for sure. She checked herself and found something that shouldn't have been there.

"Who drugged me! This better be a dream or something" He said.

Tempest glanced at Snowy and smiled. "It's not a dream. I can tell you that." She said, before turning his attention to Frost. "I agree. This new body definatly has a few perms." The cyan pegesus then began pace in his cage, trying to find a way to get out.

Ivy laughed slightly and glanced at the lock. He then turned her attention back to the other ponies. She couldn't deny that she and Tempest looked good.
