Poor development in EG?

Daughter Of Evi

Recommended Posts

While watching EG i noticed poor development in between scenes. Normally we would blame the writers not having enough time to fit everything in a 20 minute slot, but they had a WHOLE HOUR to tell a story. This is why I was pished off at EG and here's some more reasons

1. Spike is a dog? Really Hasbro?

2. When SS was threating Twilight with the sledge hammer, wouldn't it just pass through like the crown?

3. When they walk into the castle (very beginning) try and find Flash, you will see my point

And that's why I hated EG and why it has poor development!

And who found the hidden gangnam style?

(Not trying to hate on EG or MLP i just hated EG)

Yeah, really poor development.

It was just a little spinoff so hasbro could get money from selling those monster high look-a-like toys..

Also, it could have been longer, it was just bunch of clips squished together into something they call a "movie".

COME ON HASBRO!

It may have had poor development, but I think overall the movie was okay. It wasn't anything groundbreaking that's for sure and there are obvious flaws in it.

The ending did feel rushed, which is why I wonder why the writers actually just put on a bunch of fillers and not actually tell the story for an entire hour. I can understand, however, that they had to explore Twilight's experience in the new, strange, world and get used to her human form. Some scenes like trying to frame Twilight for ruining school prom could have been skipped IMO. It felt unnecessary.

As for Spike been a dog. I actually liked the idea. Plus Spike actually helped Twilight and the others in this movie

1. Spike had to be something, he couldn't be a dragon while there. And he is essentially Twi's pet soooo....

2. Probably, and it seemed SS knew this, but Twilight didn't. SS had no intent on smashing it even if it would've worked. But theres also the chance that smashing the FRAME work could've damaged the portal. Who's to say she was going to hit it center mass?

3. Not sure what you mean, TMK he didn't appear until Twi was trying to get away from the crowd and he was off to the side where she rolled. Being in a hall off to the side of the main common area kinda wouldn't make you visible. And Not everyone has to pass through the same area's to get to their lockers.

I also don't see the CC crew there, among others. Not seeing anything else. So maybe I missed it?

Problem with a new movie starting itself off is the need to introduce characters. Otherwise you have blank slates to start with. And EG was no different. Most new movie series start off TERRIBLE for this reason. Either to much time spent on introductions, or not enough.

EG spent to much on the opening IMO, and  more on wasteful little musical collage's.

It also spent WAY to much time on the opening credits sequence... Movies don't have those these days for a reason, unless its blended in as part of the movie itself.

Overall production quality though.. honestly, less than the series. But its also my opinion that the "flash doll" style animation BLOWS for humanoid characters anyways.

It just doesn't flow right, and the individual parts flop around to loosely.

In the end though, it is a movie for children.. YOUNG children... People need to stop expecting hollywood Peter Jackson quality out of it.. seriously.

Also, it could have been longer

Not really.

They have these time limits they need to stay within when making a movie, and the usual is somewhere around the 50 to 90 minute marks.

The reason for this is, its believe attention spans for people are generally really short, and anything longer than that will lose peoples interest.

So movie makers are forced to cut a LOT of potential scenes to keep the quota :(

Its why things like the LotR movies had THREE hour extended editions released later, adding back scenes that were cut due to time constraints.

And as above, this being a childrens movie, and kids attn span being even shorter than the avg adult.... You get the picture :P

TBH though a GOOD movie shouldn't need to be concerned with this IMO, but the money makers think it needs to be..

I'd take an intermission in a good movie thats long, over seeing a potentially good movie suffer due to time restraints :(

Then again, I also enjoy true theater too, and theres usually at least one intermission, if not two, in a proper play.

Not that i think much could've saved EG tbh, but still...

I don't get it, I loved it and havers watched it a few times :P

Not much was wrong with it, especially ifyouneber new anything about MLP. Spike being a dog is all preference, and in the end the story was ok.

Yes the ending was a bit like what? But they didn't really have the timetoneaten out all of lumps and bumps. The hammer thing was to trick twilight, she knew it would go throught which is why it was a idle threat (I don't get why people pick on this, it's not like she did destroy it with a hammer).

But overall,I think people need to take the film fr what it was, a kids film that was a spin off of a good TV show.

(I can't tell you what to like, and tbh it's obvious this is filled with bias but that's always going to append with opinions of films :) )

I do not see in any way, shape or form how Spike being transformed into a dog in the human world is bad development. Please educate me on why it is "bad development."

for what its worth i really enjoyed the movie and i loved the songs ALL OF THEM

for me though i don't think movie is a good description for it , it was more like an extended episode

the conflicts were resolved too quickly in the movie and the story didn't have enough time to fully develop and left an open ending

but still the "extended episode" movie was quite enjoyable

I have few words that describe perfectly this movie: they didn't even tried! The made everything rushed, the movie was full of plot-holes that it would have been nice to explaination of why such things happen. The reason of why people like it is just because of the humanized ponies.

This movie was made just to sell dolls.

Hasbro is a toy company, and it was made for children... So, it stands to reason it'd be cheap, full of holes, and to sell toys!

Gotta remember, Anything Hasbro ever made for broadcast was for toy sales. Over inflated commercials.

Ever seen any of their other shows or movies? Especially their 80's toons.

The irony is that while Spike was a dog, we seen some of the best Spike in the entire show. He really was such a great character in the movie and I hope to see more of that.

Sunset Shimmer was going to hit the SIDE of the portal. The actual 'portal' is in the front of the statue. This could have caused the whole thing to crumble.

Your last point, as Button Mash would say: "I don't get."

I can see where the film had some serious pacing and development problems, but your choices do not highlight it for me. I still loved the movie regardless. Sure, it had flaws, some serious, but it was still a lot of fun. The characters were still great, the animation is still top notch, the songs, while not the most creative at all, are insanely catchy, and the shoutouts are great. Plus, it marks the return of Derpy along with MMC. I just loved it.

"I am not hating on MLP or EG, I just hated EG"

Fair enough, but that statement doesn't make much sense.

Honestly, I did kinda like the movie. Mainly because I expected it to be absolute crap, since I didn't exactly want there to be a 'human world' in MLP, especially not one that looks so stupid. They actually didn't do that bad on it. But that doesn't mean that, in my opinion, it was a GREAT movie. It was.. enjoyable at best. I enjoyed some moments, some I didn't. The plot holes really annoyed me from time to time too. I might watch it again, to see some of the major faults in the movie. I would say the movie is 'alright.' Nothing more, nothing less.

But I do kind of like the idea of at least ONE of the mane six getting in a relationship. While Flash Sentry was just purely made for a stupid side-plot, I think that for example if Twilight gets a relationship, Fluttershy might become jealous because she's never had a relationship, due to her shyness. That would IMO result in a potentially REALLY interesting episode.

Just my opinion. Feel free to disagree and shtuff :3

Seriously? They didn't even try? You might be right from a plot standpoint and with certain aspects of the pacing, but, did you not see the animation? Did you not hear the voice acting? There is heart put into this film. Again, I will fully admit that it is very flawed in certain areas, but I am honestly tired of hearing "They didn't even try!" Or "They obviously did not want to do this!" I just do not see that.

Yes, it was made to sell toys. That is obvious, but guess what? So was FiM. Now FiM itself is better than what Equestria Girls was overall, but it still had a lot of the heart and charm. For what they had to work with, I think they did a good job.

This is all just my opinion though. To each their own I suppose. I just disagree.

1. Spike is a dog? Really Hasbro?

Well...he had to be something. Like GrimCW stated, Spike does act like a pet for Twilight, so he was going to be a dog. Plus, Spike needed to able to walk on his own and fit in well, so a dog would work perfectly.

2. When SS was threating Twilight with the sledge hammer, wouldn't it just pass through like the crown?

Like GrimCW said again, she could have smashed the edges. She could have broke the entire statue. She was close to victory, so she wouldn't think rationally.

3. When they walk into the castle (very beginning) try and find Flash, you will see my point

No idea what you mean here...to be honest.

I know that you are only 10 years old, but the way that forums work is that people like to discuss things and ask questions when they don't understand or they disagree with what you say. It can be hard to understand why we are asking questions but a lot of us are either teenagers OE adults so we are used to asking questions have having certain discussions in a certain way.

I hope that we do not scare you away though. I know that it might feel like we are being mean but the truth is that we are just treating you like a teenager or an adult because our ages are not as obvious on the Internet as they are in real life. :)

The animation is only one of the few things is from point of views, im one of those who think that the animation of the humans is lame. And ok, the voice acting is fine, but what do you expect by having the same actor of the main series? The real problem is how predictable they made their lines, and how many times they made say to human Dash the word "Awesome" and you may see what i mean.

The question that i ask you is: Why if the both have been made "fur the toyz" one is a great series that goes beyond the girly stuff and the other seems to go right back to something that take all that made MLP FIM and simple take more than one step back?

MLP FIm was made by Lauren Faust to get as far as possible to the past series of My little pony. EQG is the opposites.

And im tired of people who forgive EQG with "Oh is just a kids movie/Just a girl stuff", when in the first two season people defend such series from people who say that is childish stuff. And im also tired of people who says that kids movie have an excuse to be bad, cause of course they didn't even watched Toy Story trilogy.

If you like a flawed movie is your opinion more power to you. But im not gonna stand for a movie so flawed that is liked just because have MLP attached to it.

The animation looked pretty fluid, even if someone didn't like the designs; which looked A LOT better in actual animation than screenshots. Both have been made for toys, you can't deny that for a single second. And the voice acting is pretty good, but that is to be expected. Of course both things are made for kids, you can't deny that either, and you can't expect some amazing things while still being kid-friendly a lot of the times. There's not a single perfect movie out there, whether family-friendly or not.

You have a right to dislike a movie as much as every other EG fan has to enjoy the movie. Not everything will be absolutely perfect.
What do you even mean by "stand for"? It's a movie, it's not such a big deal.

And it's honestly kind of hard for me to read what you have said for most of the time. I mean, my spelling and grammar isn't perfect, but...yours.

Oh, and I thought the Toy Story movies sucked.

I don't like most of Pixar's movies, so there's that. But, yeah I can admit my movie tastes are extremely weird. Not going to be ashamed of it or anything though.

But, I did like EQG more, if I were to be honest.

If I like a flawed movie? Is that not YOUR opinion as well? Yes, it is flawed. There are parts about FiM that are flawed as well. Just because something is flawed doesn't mean it cannot be enjoyed. Also, bringing Faust into this means nothing. Yes, she 'created' the show, but she abandoned it before season 1 ended. Her words means nothing at this point.

Another thing, the animation on the humans is lame? What? It is the same type of animation that their pony counterparts have, it just looks different. Methinks it is bad to you because you just hate the whole human concept anyways.

I don't really care, you want to hate it, that is fine. I lose no sleep over it. I do not like people saying that the team did not even try, that is just insulting.

No, Spike is Twilight's assistant they say this multiple times during the series, remember there was an episode about it. If anything Twilight's more of Spike's pet he takes more care of her more than she takes care of him. Why not make him human? The CMC are about his age and no body at the school seemed to care so it wouldn't be too weird.

But theres also the chance that smashing the FRAME work could've damaged the portal. Who's to say she was going to hit it center mass?

Also no, It was never stated that she was going to hit the frame that's just speculation. There to many things that contradict her hitting the frame, It would have taken more than one hit with the hammer to break the frame, crack it maybe but break it with her body build no especially with the way she was holding it, she would have never had enough force to break the frame also by the time it hit the frame both of her wrist would have been broken.

The main series also wasn't intended to take off like it did. It was only intended to air for a short time, sell toys, and then get canned. It too contains a load of plot holes, animation glitches, and other problems far beyond whats said of EG. Derpy anyone?

But the main series also has had time to sink in, get to know each character, and do so in small installments over time.

EG had to do all of this in just under an hour while remaining true to the original, and showing the new.

It was also done for a limited preview release in SELECT theaters, and more for a straight to DVD run.

Production quality in low end products that go direct to DVD usually aren't given high priority, and often end up really bad.

Even a made for TV movie gets higher standards that a straight to DVD.

So expectations were low from the start. It seems those that either purely hated the concept of it (humanized ponies) or haven't seen it are the only real hold outs trying to nitpick on it for things it had done EXACTLY THE SAME as the series.

Animation, plot holes, and all manner of "issues" can also be found in the series.

Toy story was produced by a multi BILLION dollar parent company, one known as Disney. It was made for an all round audience of parents and children. Hasbro isn't that big, nor that popular.

Kung Fu Panda was hardly a "masterpiece", but if we're going to nitpick kids movies, that ones got a TON of problems, from plot holes, to animation glitches, right down to a load of inaccuracies in both its "Kung fu" and depiction of chinese culture.

KFP also didn't sell very many toys, and its follow up was hardly mentioned outside its tiny circle of interest. But both had more adult themes to them, while using cuddly animals to sell its attraction as a family movie.

it also, again, was produced by a multi BILLION dollar parent company though, so of course its quality would be far higher.

The link between the 2 movies you listed?

They're both MOVIE MAKING companies. Disney and Paramount license their toys to OTHER companies for production. Saving them the costs of making things themselves. Being Exclusive to one purpose has its advantages.

Hasbro is a TOY company first, and a show/movie company last. They make their own toys, and don't want to spend much on either front.

No, Spike is Twilight's assistant they say this multiple times during the series, remember there was an episode about it. Spike is considered her assistant, but he's often treated as a pet, or maybe child.

He has a small pet bed rather than his own fuller bed for one, and rides around on Twi's back like a girl carrying her dog in a purse.

I said "essentially" her pet though, not that he was. WORDING.. read it.

It still makes more sense than turning him into some other creature. Ponies were the humans, so what were the dragons to become?

Also it was also never said she was going to hit center mass, only that she was going to smash the portal. And who's to say ONE hit was all she intended? Or that a mere crack  in the frame wouldn't disrupt it?

Theres also movie logic to consider, where one hit on something like that would usually cause it to crumble.

I said theres "a chance" for a reason. Again context.

If we're bringing body build into this, than lets also look at applejacks lack of frame work and the heavy lifting she does..

Given that though, SS shouldn't even have been able to hold the hammer up that long without dropping it.

Again movie logic.
