Why don't we have a Spiral Knights thread yet? Let's have some love for this great game.

I started playing when it went on Steam. I stopped and started again a couple times, until the latest updates where I deleted my old character and started from scratch. This is one of my favourite MMOs.

Are there any other SK players here? If so, please post anything SK-related.

I played it a couples of times --the achievement hat was a good encouragement to try.  Unfortunately, the last time played, I couldn't find any groups to join in my level of difficulty.  I'd play this more often if I had friends who frequented it --similar to when I and my friends played Monster Hunter Freedom nearly all the time.

That is my favorite theme from the game. ^^

I play Spiral Knights almost every day. It's fun and I love the game's music, as well as a lot of the new things they've been putting into it lately. Hmmm, you said to post something SK-related? Here, have a happy kitty:

Bahaha... I was the famed Mightyputty from 2 years ago... I was the guild master of a famous guild, "AFK", meaning "Awesome, Fearless Knights". It was a great guild until everyone started to rave about being the best of the bunch. It got me power hungry and eventually, I quit the game in rage because our whole guild was falling apart. The game was simply too addicting for me and continual playtime would have left me depressed and have ruined my chances for medical school.

I think it was two years ago when I played it? It's a cool game, and the character designs look real nice. Just didn't like how grindy it got as you progressed the game. I didn't get into any guilds, but at the same time, I was getting fed up with getting randomly grouped with some people.

Sometimes though, you'd get partnered with someone who actually bothers to communicate, and then you wreck shit for the whole level, which is pretty nice.

Wohoo this thread lives! I never expected enough responses to make this thread worthwhile.

I haven't played since august though, and I missed quite a bit of new stuff. Deleted my old character after the july 30th update and started fresh, but eventually lost interest.

Maybe it's time I start playing SK again. Tell you what, I'll reinstall the game through Steam and check up on my account, then maybe we can all friend each other and hop on a few clockworks expeditions.

So I played a lot of Spiral Knights tonight:

So I figured yeah, it'd be a good time to log off now. 300 minutes is enough time. Then this prompt shows up as I'm about to log off:

Now seriously, what do you think? I played for five hours. Of course I enjoyed it! XD

Don't ask such a silly question again. >:V

I played it like once or twice, it was fun, but it sorta confused me for a while. Plus the whole energy thing where you have to buy more energy to play kinda made me sad :/

I haven't played in forever and the computer I have couldn't run it anyways.

But it's a pretty good game, it was enjoyable for the couple hours i played :P.

I agree. That used to annoy me. I say "used to" because they don't do that anymore. All elevators are free now, so you can play for as long as you like. There's no longer mist energy and crystal energy. Now it's just Energy, which, just like Crowns, is used for purchases of gear, rarities (another relatively new type of item), etc. You can still buy Energy if you want, but it's not used up for just playing the game like it was before.

I personally like it this way, except the new Forge system has been a pain lately. Only because now it takes me forever to level-up my gear at the rank I'm at, but oh well. From my previous post you can definitely tell that trying to rack up the Crowns for the Energy for whatever I need it for (Fire Crystals in this example) isn't necessarily something that bothers me. X3

I prefer the unlimited game play any day. ^^

I recently played SK with an old friend of mine after quitting TF2. I played about two hours a long time before going back, and I found that a lot had changed since that first run. Mist energy, the free stuff that locked how many adventures you could have or how many weapons you could make, was gone. Little buddies were added, new levels. Combat was enjoyable, and the game had quite a few tricks to make sure you're ready for what lies ahead. However, I got stuck on this one ranked mission that required me to have 3-star items equipped. The problem?

The economy is still bullshit, even without mist energy. Why? Alchemy orbs. Fucking alchemy orbs. Now, I'm a veteran of Neopets and something like this isn't anything new. Codestones and dubloons are items you need for training. And they demand a lot of money as a result. Orbs are following a similar principal, limiting your ability to perform an action which results of high prices. But here's the thing: on Neopets, you have a lot of ways to earn money without having to worry about a lucky item drop: the games room, dailies, your shop, stocks, a large variety for a pet site.

The only thing SK has to offer for easy money is the arcade. That's it. And even then, you earn around 3000+ crowns after reaching the first town. Compare that to the price of just one orb. In my case, I need about ~7500 just to buy one goddamn orb. The arcade just simply doesn't adjust to your need for cash, it just drops the same crappy amounts every single time you go to the arcade, forcing you to play it over and over and over and over until you shut the game off from boredom. Even on elite mode the payout is terrible. Stop giving me 1 crown coins, dammit, gimme more 5s, 10s, 100s even!

I've actually done math on this; to meet the 3-star items criteria, I need almost 200 THOUSAND CROWNS in recipes, alchemy fees, and orbs. What numbnut thought this would be a good idea? And you can't sell your older weapons 'cause they're bound to you and they can only be unbound with energy. What's the point of keeping those old normal weapons if I'm not gonna use them anymore, it's not like I can get their upgrade recipes and have enough orbs to use the damn machines, why don't I have the ability to just throw them in the trash?

On top of that, certain enemies are real pains in the ass, to the point where I can't move on in the arcade trying to get a crucial upgrade to a weapon that that put the little pests to rest easier. Devilettes are the absolute worst, they take so many hits even with piercing and they do so much damage that's nearly impossible to avoid. I've used up all my sparks of life against these pricks and no one else seems to be willing to spare one for me. Some party, huh? Just leave your teammates to rot and not give them a chance to move on and collect more money they need. And I ain't wasting all the crowns I earned PLUS the crowns I saved up for just to have enough for two sparks which will pretty much be wasted in a matter of seconds anyway. Such terrible game design.

TL;DR - Spiral Knights, while having enjoyable combat, suffers from a piss-poor economy, annoying enemies reliance on energy to make your life easier. "Free to play" my ass. I'd advise people to avoid this if you don't have the patience to waste so much time and effort just to get a required upgrades to rank up.
