At the Gala - and other Art

Well..ehm... i already have request thread, fan art thread... but this time i drew something that i cant post to any of it... so i just create one topic just for thisone stupid picture...HOWEVER. I was thinking last night about what would i wear at Gala... I never designed any clother so... it isnt perfect at all! : D but this is first try i made..i still have somemore in my mind but for now just this one...
Any tips from anyone who understand art of dress are appriciated Well..any tips from anyone... 
So..enought chitchat, time is ...well..just time

I should stop fanboying over all your stuff already, sorry :/. The veil (-kinda thing) over the shoulders gives it a very nice touch, as well as the ribbon in her mane. The pattern on the actual dress looks good, but could maybe just be a bit more sginificant (it nearly dissapears a bit).

Other than that the whole necklace, ribbon, veil combination is nearly reserved, compared to for example the dresses from the grand galloping gala in the show, but it fits your character extremely well.

It´s a dream :3.

And about the dress...yes this dress is little different that dresses from show... Maybe they would throw me into dungeon because of it  xD and maybe not... I´ll start whole new party next to Canterlot for all ponies that dont have dress good enought to go there :DDD

Pattern...Its dissapears because i wanted to make it like..well..just lace layer on that dress... and when it wasnt shaded it looked OK but now its too dark..you are right, i should play with it more next time

Well, the picture quality is simply gorgeous, nothing to criticize there.

As for the dress, it looks a bit simplistic: at the moment it looks a bit like a blanket draped over your OC's back.

My suggestion would be to add a saddle to bring some structure to the thing, maybe some strap around the neck/over the chest as well.

I drew up a gala dress for one of my OCs a while back and while nowhere your skilllevel, it might help to illustrate my point:

Dude that is bad*ss!!!! Very impressive work! I defiently am not a good clothes designer even though I imagine a dress on my character all the time, my avatar basically shows me off hehe. I just dont know what to do for colors in regards to my characters dress for something like the Gala.

 

I mean what do you think? You have great color understanding I can tell so... was hoping for color suggestions if my avatar pony were to wear a dress at the gala. Her coat is white, while her mane is black with rainbow highlights. She is a peg pony so I dont want to hide her wings either. You think you could give me fashion tips? lol

Well i fixed few things...first, i FORGOT to draw my wings And second,i added saddle, thank you @Silverwisp the Bard ! Its better now
And i made dress same as veil so now the part of skirt would be...transparent? I dont know if that is right word. however i would like to have 2-3 different layers on skirt

I was thinking about your gala dress and colours... your character is white/black with  rainbow parts... and i wouldnt like to hide it under dress (i dont know if i am using correct words but using something rly colourfull would hide buauty of your character) I would use basic black or white dress with some colourful accessories . not necessary rainbow, but ...green...red... or yellow. and something that wouldnt hide your unique tail!!! Its adorable!

Oh thank you so much for your tips! I was basically thinking the same thing as you in regards to my dress idea, and decided to go with an all black dress however... I thought it'd still be cool to add in some rainbow fabric to the flow of the gown for my character. I didnt think about how long the train should be other then for it to cover my characters entire back side, but after what you said about my tail, why should I be ashamed of my tail??? Your so right! I shouldn't hide it, its unique in its own right!

 

So this was my idea (plz critique, and sorry I dont have the ability to upload pics of my work at the moment grr) I love the victorian steampunk slight style so that was the inspiration of the main poof of the dress. The dress front has a collar to enhance the neckline of my character, and there are short puff sleeves, the coloar is black while the sleeves are white with black lined lace. Ya usually saddles are part of dresses so I put in a saddle to seperate the train of the dress, its also back with golden outline to enhance the look further. The train part of the dress that hangs down is long enough but doesnt go down to the floor and its also transparent, a black transparent so you can see my back legs, the tail is much longer so the puff sticks out beautifully! However what will make the gown stand out is the train's victorian basket poof on the butt end of the dress. Its rainbow colored with layers of red, orange, yellow, green, blue and purple and is laced in with white cotten, to detail it like clouds since she is a proud Cloudsdale pony

 

I guess if I wanted to add a bit more detail in, her hair is surprisingly styled like your characters hair, a long loose pony tail, but I didnt want to completely hide her lazy hair look on the top of her head so while her long bands are hair curled to twirl down in her face she still has 3 wild hairs sticking up at the back of her head lol!

 

Darn it I wish I could get to my programs back home so I can clean up this image and show you for better critqueing, but itll have to wait, best I can do is descrbe through text :okiedokielokie:

 

I basically was inspired to make the perfect Gala dress for myself pony character because I wanted it to be one of those situations where like before I met my fiance, it was my first time ever to the Gala, I just came into Canterlot in the hopes to finding someone special there. I could only hope what I wore wasnt too much because Im very self concious, but I do want this dress to be a show stopper, something to make a handsome unicorn wizard stop dead in his tracks, mouth open wide and cant help himself but to walk up and ask for my name and a dance.

Pegasisters!!!Thats brilliant!!! And still love that art style of yours! Its so eye catching and elegant hehe! I could try to replicate that style just my character would match on your thread but I dont want to overstep myself, only curious if i could replicate it hehe

 

Edit: Meh it took me about 15mins to replicate your style, but its not for me, been doing the simple animation techniques for so long that the really big head cute baby style has kinda stuck with me. Still though I'm happy to know I can replicate styles, I wouldn't be a good animator if I weren't able to, and all that education in college would have been wasted lol! Yes I will also be sure to post my one time replica when I get back home but that wont be for about a month or so meh! lol But that style of yours is really amazing and beautiful.

I am pegasus! And I LOVE chocolate...I know discord did it but in chaos way... i would do that once in a time and just one cloud C: and for pleasure of all ponies and PinkiePie ! I think its sweet destiny, what do you think?

Oh one other thing hehe, I did manage to draw up my version of my OC's gala dress, i took a pic of it, best I could do under the circumstances, no its not in color either, its just a sketch. I hope to clean it up within a month or so when I get back home. Try to imagine the color scheme lol
