Current Mission

At First Dawn

The crew is to proceed on a seemingly routine trip patrolling between Equestria and Amareica. The ships crew has finally been assembled and the TMS Resilient is ready to sail out of Baltimare.

Current Event

The First Test

With all the crew aboard the Resilient the crew have time to socialize before inspection.

Swift Sail stood opened the door to his cabin and stepped outside into the fresh sun. He'd been on board for a week now, performing efficiency tests and drills with the small skeleton crew on board. Most of the crew had come aboard at first dawn today. The marine who'd stood guard at the door to his quarters click his heels together.

"Mighty fine day, sah! The winds are favorable!" he said, enthusiastically.

"Yes, indeed. At ease." said Swift Sail briskly.

Swift sail stepped to the center of the deck. The sun was warm but the wind cool. It was a nice Northeasterly wind, definitely one that would be favorable on their three month journey to Amareica.

Leaves stood on deck, enjoying the breezes as she shut her eyes and let her mane flutter. A new job and life, and she was not about to screw it up. How hard could commanding be from a law firm position, anyways? She scoffed. Almost one and the same.

She noticed her captain come onto deck and fumbled to salute to him briskly. "Hello, sir!" she said, a bit too stiff and formal, and she cringed at how idiotic she had sounded. I'll have to practice in my cabin later tonight, she thought, and she tried to hide her feelings with a smile. "Seems like the wind is going in a pleasant direction, eh?" she added, trying to sound like she talked about this all the time, even if half the terms and items aboard were brand new to her.

Swift Sail stared at leaves.

"Ah, yes. Lieutenant. At ease." he said in a brisk tone.

"Lieutenant go up on the Aftercastle and ring the bell. Tell Sergeant Gladius to assemble his marines. It's about time I've gotten my remarks over and done with" Swift Sail said.

Jaeger walked onto the main deck and felt the sea breeze in his mane. To him nothing could top that. He had joined the crew a couple years back, and being Midshipman was one of the best jobs he could hope for.

When he saw the captain he walked over and saluted. "Good day sir! Looks like the weather is more in our favor today isn't it?" he said with a smile turning to the Lieutenant. "Good day ma'am." he said tipping his cap

The heavyset Northerner plodded up to the deck as he heard the Captain's voice. He had been on board for a while now, making sure everything below was 'ship-shape.' it was going to be a long voyage- nothing could be left out. He was glad he brought some spices from home, too. The ones in stock were quite bland.

Almost covered in soot, Roulette bit his tongue to hold back a sneeze, though his attempt failed, and he turned his head from the others to do so.

"Ah," He blinked a few times, looking at the officers. Roulette dipped his head respectfully, "Everything has been readied, sir." he reported to Captain Swiftsail.

The bell rang and the marine drummer began to beat the drum. The crew of the Resilient rushed out from below deck and formed up on the sloop-of-war's deck.

"All hear me, sailors and marines of Equestria's glorious navy and servants of their Royal Majesties! Today we set sail from Manehatten and we head to Amareica to the northwest! Expect snow, rain, gales. Expect the unlikely and we'll always be prepared! Lieutenant Conner, loose the topsails! Today we sail, for Luna, Celestia, Equestria and everyone back home that relies on the Navy to keep them safe and well!"

The Crew cheered and hooted.

"All hands, dismissed!" Swift Sail shouted.

As the crew dispersed Swift Sail turn to Connor.

"Connor, once we clear the harbor bring us out full sail. I'll be in my quarters. Be sure to notify me of any changes of wind, sail or weather." Swift Sail ordered.

He marched back into his quarters and shut the door.

Gladius and his marines emerged onto the deck just in time to hear the captain's speech. He listened to it with pride, though he didn't take part in the cheering at the end of it, remaining quiet and stoic the whole time. He always tried to remain as professional as possible, after all. Well "tried" might not be the right word; it just came naturally to him, and he figured it was best to stay that way. Judging from where he was now, it had worked pretty well for him.

Though he was young, Gladius had already accomplished quite a bit in his career. After graduating from the academy at the top of his class, he had quickly risen to take command of his own squad of marines. Now he was serving on a fine ship with a captain who he could already tell he was going to like. Indeed, things were going pretty well for him.

Jaeger face lit up when Connor mentioned he would put in a good word if his task was done quickly. The thought of being a full officer made him quite motivated. He saluted with a large smile. "Aye sir! I'll start straight away!" he replied turning and running off to preform his given task of loosening the bow and mid sails.

A knock came to Swift Sail's door as Roulette sat patiently outside. He had a few concerns he had to address before he got to settling in. He also had with him a bottle of apple cider, a gift and, well, if things went wrong, surely it would help him out of it? Roulette had no intentions on being in the bad field of the Captain's mind.

"Roulette, Sir." he announced, skillfully balancing the bottle on his head.

"Ah yes. Cider? Thank you, leave it on the table over there."

The captain walked over to a cabinet and brought out a bottle of strong brandy. He poured himself a glass and took a swift gulp.

"Would you care for some brandy, Roulette? I got it since I was last in Amareica and I've been saving it since."

Leaves had applauded politely at the end of the captain's speech but didn't cheer; she found that a bit unprofessional and frowned at the rowdiness of the crew. She noticed that one other, a serious-looking black pegasus, hadn't either, and she felt a small glow of respect for that. She smiled politely at the pony next to her about to excuse herself, and realizing it was her superior officer she quickly checked herself and stuck out a hoof for a shake.

"You must be First Lieutenant Swift," she said politely, and smiled demurely, trying not to squint her delicate yellow eyes in the sun. "I'm Second Lieutenant Leaves. It's a pleasure to make your acquaintance, sir, and I hope that we may do good work together." She dipped her head politely and dropped her eyes to the ground in respect. Unlike her sister, Leaves remembered her etiquette training.

Once Jaeger had finished his chore he checked the time. "New record!" he muttered in excitement as he walked towards the Captians quarters to ask for another task. Once he arrived he waved at the ponies outside and poked his head in. Seeing he that Swift had company he felt embarrassed. "Horribly sorry to interrupt sir, I was just in need of some work." he said in a soft tone.

"Well, I'd recommend getting some rest. I'm going to need you to take the 11PM-3AM watch officer shift" ordered Swift.

OOC NOTICE: At this point we're going to move chronologically to 1AM that night.

Swift stepped out onto the deck. He had been an insomniac since he was a child, and the stressful duties as a naval captain only exacerbated it.

"A lovely night, Midshipman. Has there been anything of note since you took over the watch?" He said.

Jaeger followed shyly behind Captain Swift out onto the deck. "Yes sir it is quite a night." he said looking at the stars. "No. No sir, nothing of note has happened since I took watch." he said now standing next to the Captain. He put on a smile. "So what is it like to lead your own ship? You must have had many adventures sir." he stated trying to make small talk.

(OoC: The one that she noticed was Connor Swift, not Gladius. Sorry for any confusion, it was mentioned they were near each other earlier so far as I know.)

Sleep eluded Leaves, and she was lying on her back staring at the stars on the deck. She and her sister used to like making stories about them, but after a while her sister started to get more distant from her as her social circle grew. It wasn't that she disliked other ponies, it was just that their behaviour was too...lewd for her to handle. Eventually, the invitations to parties and other events wore off, and she was invisible to them all, another body in the way.

She had had some good friends, though as they revolved into their new lives she had neglected many of them. Guilt still burnt at her on occasion, but she remembered that fateful day and winced, realizing that maybe her lonesome life was for the best. All the same, Catchkey and her still kept in occasional touch, though they never outright mentioned their pasts.

Hearing voices she poked her head up to see some shadowy figures. She guessed one was the captain based on the others response, but who the other was she had no idea. She decided to sneak back into her cabin, not wishing to disturb them, but to do so she'd have to pass in their vision. It was worth a try, she supposed, and she began to creep along.

Leaves jumped a bit, and then blushed, hoping the darkness would hide her face as she moved forwards towards the other two.

"Sorry, Captain, I wasn't intending to make a ruckus," she said meekly, trying not to look him straight in the eyes. She instead smiled at his companion (@@Frosty V), her teeth pearly and neat, and replied to him. "A pleasure to make your acquaintance, ah..." Here she laughed a little, tossing back her mane. "I'm sorry, I do get rather confused about all those honourifics and titles and whatnot...please, do excuse me if I forget your name."

She giggled nervously and demurely covered her mouth at her lack of knowledge, hoping the captain wasn't too upset about her newness.

"As for your question, sir...my family is...fine," she said a bit stiffly, straightening up so she looked more regal. "Is there anything specific you require of me in this regard, or was a general answer enough to satisfy you, sir?"

Swift stared at leaves.

"Don't think I can't tell. I have a good knack for this things, and even your average bar rat could tell. Officers of the Royal Equestria Navy need confidence. Damn it! Stand straight, sound straight and keep your eyes straight!"

Swift sounded more aggressive than he'd attended, but he knew the poor lieutenant needed to learn that lesson or else she'd end up dead, stranded or court-martialed.

"To be honest I haven't felt up to par in many years. I haven't had a full nights rest in twenty years." He replied.

He tipped his hat at Jaeger and patted Leaves' back before trotting down to the forecastle. There was only one crewman on the forecastle, whom Swift dismissed. As he stared out at the moonlit ocean he felt sad and dismal. He pulled a small flask out of his coat pocket and took a brief gulp.
