Anyone playing Kingdom Hearts 1.5?

I got it the day it came out, art book and all. I watched all of the 358/2 Days cutscenes already, and I enjoyed them a lot. I started a Level 1 Proud Mode challenge, and I can't get past Clayton! I barely manage to make it past his first phase, but him and the Stealth Sneak just prove to be too much for me. It brings me back to the old days back in 2002 when I was first playing, and I couldn't get past Clayton on my first playthrough...

Any tips? If not, what are your experiences?

I preordered it (even though I literally have the entire series minus the English release of the original KH1 Final Mix which was extremely rare. Oh and I don't have any of the Japanese versions. I refuse to buy Japanese versions of games for a few extra boss fights) for the artbook and all but it didn't ship until midnight last night so I've gotta wait a bit and I can't play it yet cuz I have a friend coming in October who wants to see the Final Mix version.

That said, Expert Mode Clayton has always been a bit of a douche. He's probably the hardest boss in the game because you start out so weak in KHI. It's usually after the Clayton fight that the game gets easier.

I can't imagine doing a level 1 challenge. I'll never do it myself, I hate ridiculously absurd difficulty.

Kingdom Hearts is my favorite franchise... I played the original Japanese final mix and played KH2 Final Mix. I've played every game in the series also. Aside from Clayton, two other bosses that always gave me trouble were Giant Ursula and Riku-Ansem. I've gotten the hang of them now due to years of practice, but Level 1 is just crazy. So have you played KH 3D? If so, what did you think of its storyline?

:D Kingdom Hearts is one of my favorite franchises as well. If it weren't for the Sonic and Wild Arms franchises it'd probably be at the top. I just don't feel the need to spend the money on a game I can't even read like KHII Final Mix even if the game itself is in it's English state for voices. I do not relish the thought of using translation guides.

Plus at the rate we're going KHIIFM+ will likely be coming with the 2.5 Remix so it'd be a waste of money at this point.

I have played Dream Drop Distance and I absolutely adored the game. I would easily rank it as equal to KHII which is my favorite though there's a lot I've yet to do in the game besides the story. Didn't do much of the minigames, didn't explore the Dream Eaters much or try to fully explore each level so there's that to look forward to when I replay it.

The final boss was amazingly epic and the story in general was great, though much like all the past games I wish they spent more time in each world. I know it's not gonna happen but I want the characters from The World Ends With You to come back, or even give them a world of their own, so I can hear remixed music from TWEWY some more. I was sad that there was really only music in cutscenes from the game. I kinda wished they used the battle themes more like Hybrid. Hybrid is one of my favorite video game songs of all time. Looooove it.

Also, playing as Riku = yes. Riku is my favorite character. :D

As for difficult bosses I feel the only ones I ever had trouble with are Clayton and Demyx, even on Proud Modes. (Although in BBS the Vanitas fights were kinda stupidly hard until you got his pattern down. :P )

I could go into so much detail about how much I've worked out and contemplated every inch of the KH storyline, but ill withhold the urge...

Did you hear the latest announcement by Square? They said to not expect KH3 "any time soon", and knowing their habit to take a long time to release games, that probably means a really really REALLY long time...

Did you beat the Vanitas Remnant or Young Xehanort in BBS? I beat the former but not the latter...

I saw that and it's not really anything new. They've said for years now that KH3 wasn't even going to be started until Final Fantasy XV was finished. That won't be for at least another year but at least it looks like it's relatively complete unlike the last seven years of nothingness and looks to share a lot of gameplay elements with Kingdom Hearts so that's a huge plus!

Also, I would recommend hiding that last line in spoiler tags.

Not everyone has played Dream Drop Distance so not everyone knows that the Mysterious Figure fight in BBS is Young Xehanort. ;)

I haven't done much optional stuff in any of the games except KHII which I 100%'d and Days which I've done most of the missions and challenges for. I was hoping to do all the optional stuff with the Remix since it has all the Final Mix optional bosses in it as well.

The Kingdom Hearts story isn't really that hard to follow if you've played every game. People act like it's more complicated than it actually is.

I have it preordered at gamestop (the artbook edition) but I owe like $2 on it so I have to wait a little bit to go and bike back to the store to pick it up. I can't wait to play it in HD though!

You and me both. I've seen some video of it and it doesn't look too different but until I have it on my TV I won't know for sure.

I'm looking forward to the Final Mix features like using the triangle button for talking to people and interacting with things. I do not miss using the fourth menu slot for opening chests.

I'm totally playing it! The game looks so good in HD. :yay:  I almost can't believe it was originally a PS2 game. :D  I hope the release a KH 2.5 with Birth By Sleep in it. :squee:

I've always believed that KH, as a series, was WAY too good graphically to be a PS2 game, even on PS2. The artstyle was so perfect that there are very few flaws in the graphical style. A lot of it comes from the smooth textures over detailed ones (something you can see very clearly in Port Royale in KHII)

I think it's been leaked that in the credits of 1.5 that KHIIFM+, BBSFM and the scenes from Coded are going to be in 2.5 but I don't know how valid that is. It was months ago but easily within the timeframe of when it was released in Japan so it's possible.

SQUEEEEEE, my Kingdom Hearts 1.5 just arrived in the mail. I can't play it until next month but I'm gonna take a look at the artbook now. <3

I'm gonna wait to preorder it to see if there's any preorder bonuses worth getting. If not then I can wait a little bit to get the game. I'm not getting a PS4 (or Xbone, depending on which I choose to get) until both Final Fantasy XV and KH3 are out anyway so I've got time. KH3 hasn't even begun development because the KH directory, Tetsuya Nomura, is also the director for FFXV and that game is very heavily in development. It'll likely be a Q4 2014 or early 2015 game which makes KH3 probably 2016 at the earliest.

You know what really gets me? I'm a gaming enthusiast, so I want to support these developers right? So I buy a 3DS and a PS Vita the day they're released, and then they release 3DS XL, 2DS, and now a Vita Slim. I'm not making that mistake with the PS4...

Anywho, I can say that the graphics aren't that different from the way it originally looked. I say that in a good way. It looks exactly the way it should, just sharper and more detailed, without taking away its atmosphere like other HD remakes sometimes do. Also, I was worried about what Sora and Ansem would look like since they replaced their old models with their KH3D models. Sora is barely any different, Ansem looks a little off but it's not a big deal either.

They just made him look like Terra, to emphasize BBS, which is kind of redundant since Terra only looked the way he did because he was supposed to resemble Ansem and Xemnas, but I digress...

The gameplay changes are much appreciated, such as changing the bottom command to Triangle. All in all, I'd say its a faithful remake. The music is all redone, but it just sounds enhanced rather than taking away any atmosphere or anything like that. I'm going to give up on Level 1 Proud Mode. It's just way too insane. I could manage Level 1 Critical Mode in KH2FM, but not this game...

KHI really isn't balanced for level 1 playthroughs like KHII is. With spells like Reflect it's possible to beat KHII without getting hit much at all, especially with other skills like Once More and Second Chance.

Kinda seems weird to me that they would change Ansem's look like that though. He's looked that way the entire series even in DDD. I also didn't particularly like Riku's shorter hair in DDD but I got over that. I liked it nice and long in KHII

Expert Mode Clayton has always been a bit of a douche.

True, but to me, it's always been ursula, she's the toughest disney villain in my opinion due to her magic and attacks that can end you quickly if not careful and active.

Aside from that, I am buying it, as part one is one of my favorite games of all time, to the soundtrack and gameplay, of course I'm going to buy it!

That, and I never played chain of memories, so this is a great way to play them now, despite the different gameplay using cards to battle.

Also, if you know me, I'm a hardcore gamer who stops at nothing to obtain everything including all trophies, collectables, and difficulties, so this will be no exception. X)

You know I've never honestly had any trouble with Ursula. Even on my first playthrough and my first Expert playthrough she was fairly easy to me. She's like Xaldin in KHII. A lot of people have trouble with them because they don't know how to fight them properly but once you know the trick, they are incredibly easy. Xaldin especially.

They actually did balance it. When you equip EXP Zero in KH1, you have two-three hits before you die, and enemies don't have as much defense. You'll still do decent damage and you have a pseudo-second chance, but it's still not enough really.

Also, a spoiler about the 358 scenes:

There are no battle scenes. That's right, none. Every time a fight is about to start, it blacks out and starts the next scene. Not only that, half of the story is either taken out or turned into text. Wanted to see Roxas interact with Marluxia, Larxene, Zexion, Vexen, or Lexaeus? Sorry, just a big wall of text! Plus, remember Saix and Roxas fighting near the end! Gone! It's not even in the storyline in any form. No final Xion fight either. So, it's not what I expected, but it's alright for what it is.

I really REALLY wish they had included Days in the collection in full. Even if they had to cut out a bunch of filler missions and stuff it's just not the same if people have to miss all the epic fights. Especially stuff like the final chapter with

dual-wielding Roxas and insta-killing the Neo Shadows. That's like the best scene in the game. :(

Yeah, he's a pain at first, but generally easy if you know what to do.

Even though, ursula is still tricky but an awesome battle none the less.

Indeed. Learn x 9 wrecks Xaldin. ;)

Also, I highly recommend playing Chain of Memories. Since I played the original the PS2 one was really awkward but once I got used to it and actually played through I found that overall it is a better game than the original. There's even extra final boss forms that are TOTALLY badass.

Plus the card system is what MAKES CoM awesome so don't count it out because of it. ;)

The only thing CoM did wrong was using static rooms built around set structures with a texture thrown on top of it based on the level you're in. You don't get full levels like in the other games.

That's why I never got that game, many people said the card system was what made the game horrible, but now I'm looking to give it a worthy try if I've heard good things about it now.

That, and because I've heard the PS2 version is better than the GBA version, so thanks for the recommendation!  ;)

You'll get a lot out of CoM if you invest in sleights. It's so satisfying to keep using sleights then using your leftover cards from the sleights to continuously deal out more sleights. Sadly, Re:CoM is barely any different in 1.5. The graphic changes aren't as noticeable as with KH1. Also, another disappointment I forgot to mention: KH1 has no Theater Mode! You can skip cutscenes though, which is wonderful for speed playthroughs and such.

<3 Skippable cutscenes. That's one of the reasons I never replayed the first KHI very often. I hate having to sit through those scenes. It's particularly horrible with the Clayton fight. >_<

But yeah, people have a general distaste for card-based battle systems for some reason. I absolutely adore them myself. It's part of what makes Baten Kaitos on Gamecube so amazing.

In CoM proper deck building and sleight usage will get you far. I will give you one tip that will save your life throughout the game: Keep a bunch of 0 cards at the end of your deck so they are easy to access and never use them in sleights so you don't lose them. ;)

Oh and Hi-Potions, Hi-Ethers and Megalixirs are your best friend.

I did, and it took a LONG time. I did it on all characters for both bosses.

I enjoyed the bosses. It's a boss you can't facetank the whole time, and one that forced me to be precise with my actions.
