Would Discord be considered a rebel without a cause?

Same question as above. I have an idea for a signature, however I need to be sure it makes sense before I send a request.

 

Now, in terms of Discord being considered a rebel without a cause, I suppose it would make sense. He's the Element of Chaos, rebelling against Harmony and all its forms. Generally, he likes to muck things up for both the good and bad guys, and doesn't act on anypony's orders but his own, hence the term "rebel without a cause". Discord is pretty much a prankster; all he wants is to get shit to happen and to watch the fireworks. So, knowing this, it would make sense. What do you guys say?

Well yeah? Haha you pretty much answered your own question there. I had not heard "rebel without a cause" before but as you describe it, yeah he probably is. I mean he doesn't really have a master plan like the other villains or something. When he got his chaos, all he did was sitting on a throne drinking chocolate and watching his "wonderful chaos". I suppose that it makes him relaxed or something.

If disorder is what resonates with him, then he could simply be seeking home. Perhaps he is just a trickster, a being wit great power an no use for it. It may also be safe to say that Discord must cause chaos in order to maintain balance in Equestria. If the world existed in perfect order, there would be no joy or inspiration, nothing worth living for, making it the job of Discord and ponies such as Pinkie Pie to shake things up and keep the equilibrium. The fact that he discovered he cares about friendship implies he may simply be searching for a home, a place of discord that truly resonates with his inner being.

 

Discord's inner feelings and motivations are a mystery, but if you just want to make a signature, then "rebel without a cause" works well.

Well.. It depends on how you look at the rebel without a cause thing I guess.

 

As far as if he has anything he wishes to gain really physically from the rebellious actions, well then yes he is a rebel without a cause, because he just causes chaos to watch it unfold really. He doesn't exactly have a set goal really.

 

Now he does however have a reason, being the element of chaos, and enjoying causing chaos, but that wouldn't really be a cause i suppose.

It's certainly his means, but the purpose of his chaos may have a deeper origin. Assuming he wasn't born the spirit of chaos seeing as even Celestia had a childhood, his motives arose from past desires. Developing their character rather than assigning it makes for a better story (although I'd still enjoy the opposite here).

 

Anyhow, everyone acts in the way that grants enjoyment. Discord loved to watch/set things in motion. It was boring when the world stood still. As he put it, "What fun is there in making sense?". On this point, I'll disagree with you both. Having the world reach a state of harmony, in the Equestrian sense,- not stagnation as you seem to view it- is the inspiration.

 

Discord came to realize the magic of friendship and found something fill the void. He spread chaos for entertainment; he had nothing else. Had he stopped relishing in it for any real time, he'd realize how empty it all was.

 

A means without an end....it had to keep going..for it's own sake.
