“It’s so I can hide things that I don’t want others to see. I’d rather them think of me as a fool than a monster waiting to be let out. That’s the big secret to Captain Aegis Dare.” He looked over to Gloomfury. At the very least, apologizing would set his mind at ease. “Please excuse me, Eclipse. There’s an urgent matter that requires my attention. Perhaps we can continue this conversation during dinner?”

“Um, ok. Th-thanks…” Bright Eyes said, not realizing that Selune had already walked away. ‘And I wonder why I can’t get a mare’s attention. I’m a socially awkward moron…’

 

“So, should we head over and get something to eat?” He directed to question at Midnight.

“It gets worse. If it gets out, there will be official inquiries, the Captain will be placed under observation for behavioural relapses, and he’ll lose his position. He’d be bored of the paperwork, rank isn’t that important to him, and he’d suffer through the observation with a grin and a fountain of sarcasm. But being hit with all three will break him down completely,” Kinetic said.

It was as good an explanation as any - Eclipse nodded.
 
"If you wish, Captain." He responded. "I shall be beside the fire if you require anything."
 
He wandered away at an angle: wondering about the situation: what kind of danger they might be in - both out in the snow and right their within camp. It didn't last long - the thought of a welcome drink of tea called him towards the group, where he sat patiently so as to not disturb or interrupt the others.

 "To be honest Kine, I don't really care what happens to him. What Snowy said to me is understandable. I threaten you at knife point and I had that coming. And in return I acted the way anyone would who was working for their life. But what Aegis did was command me to respect cause of rank and authority. And he tried to add fear by beating me up, which also didn't work. I will respectfully apologize to Snowy for my actions. But whatever happens to Aegis, I could care less. He reminds me of my ex-CO. And he got what was coming to him." He grips the handle of his knife strongly.

"I guess we should, it would be a bit awkward if we were off on our own while the others enjoyed tea and dinner." Midnight Sky said with a shrug as he took off his helmet and levitated it into his shelter. "And I gotta say, you should work on your social skills, but then I can't say much because I need to too. Anyway, let's go see what's for dinner, shall we." Midnight  said to Bright Eyes before turning and making his way over to the central fire.

Snowy Fields stared at Selune Darkeye for a moment before speaking. "Thank you for letting me know. I'll be ther in a few minutes. However, if you truly want to help Gloomfury then make sure that he follows his orders from now on. Equestria has no use for a mercenary that won't do what they've been hired for."

@@Windbreaker, As Selune returned she joined in with Bright Eyes again. She wanted to know more about the people she would be working with, and her curiosity was boosting that need for socialization she had. 

"Excuse me for leaving you before... if i had a chance i would stay and talk... but i had to gather the rest. So... Bright Eyes right?"

Icarus hadn't expected to be seeing a fire for a long time.

"I wonder if these are other explorers" He whispered, talking to himself.

Icarus approached the light, hoping to Celestia it was another expedition team. As he came closer, he noticed that it was, in fact, a fire with a camp surrounding it, along with what sounded like conversation.. For a second he hesitated, then approached the gathered ponies cautiously.

"I hadn't expected to see any other living creatures for quite some time" He said, once he got close to the group."This is quite an interesting surprise"

Kinetic spotted Eclipse Scribe out of the corner of his eye. “Ah, Mister Scribe. A pleasure to have you join us. Tea and vegetable stew?” Kinetic asked, pouring a cup of tea for the Lunar Guardspony.

 

“I think I’ve made it the same way Mother did. Anyway, it’s good for you." Poppy said.

 

Bright Eyes

“You’re probably right. It’s just… this is my first real assignment. I’m excited, I’m terrified, and I’ve already suffered teleport sickness for this. And this could be important to the Princesses. I just hope that Captain Aegis made the right call by choosing me for the team.”

Bright Eyes jumped in fright, as Selune approached.

 

“Don’t do that. This place is almost scary enough,” He said indignantly, then cleared his throat and remembered his manners. “Sorry, ma’am. Yes, I’m Bright Eyes. The awkward pony you probably passed by once or twice at the office.”

 

Aegis Dare

Aegis ducked into his tent and picked up a small locket. He held it tightly, clutching the tiny golden heart close to his own.

 

“Rose…”

 

He exited his tent and re-joined the others at the fire. Most of the others seemed to be gathered by now. He cleared his throat and prepared to give a small speech.

 

“Attention, everypony. Today, I have failed you all as Captain. Were we in Canterlot, such behaviour would not go unpunished and I am grateful to you all for being so forgiving. I deeply apologize for my actions and deplorable words, and most of all, my poor judgement. Thank you, and I’m sorry. Truly sorry,” Aegis said with genuine emotion behind his words. Eclipse had reminded him that he was a Captain, so he was going to act like it.

Snowy Fields noticed the stranger approaching from a distance. Once the pony was close enough Snowy approached him. Stopping him a fair distance from the group, far enough away that nopony would be able to hear their conversation. "Who are you? Why are you out here? If I believe even for a moment that you're lying to me, I will kill you on the spot."

 

(OOC: Is he wearing the clothes in the picture or is he wearing something else for the cold?)

"Ah, a real person finally, I was part of an earlier expedition into this area, I was brought along as medical assistance. Sadly, we were not prepared for this bitter cold, and most of the group perished, leaving me the lone survivor." Icarus explained, while he unstrapped his mask so the other pony could see his face. "If you do not believe me I can show you the remains of the camp"

 

"Anyways, I saw this fire of yours, and approached it hoping that there would be another team here. I assume I am correct?"

"My thanks." Eclipse nodded his appreciation to Poppy Seed and the scientist Kinetic, whom he still didn't fully trust but was willing to give the benefit of the doubt: very few villains he had met had been tea-drinkers after all. 

 

Forming the simple telekinesis spell into the dense ribbon, he grasped the cup carefully. "To both of you: it is much appreciated."

She was aware of her social awkwardness and was trying to improve.  "Sorry about that... i don't usually have the chance to interact with so many ponies. Makes contact with them a bit sketchy... It's my fault really... let us begin anew. My name is Selune Darkeye... nice to meet you." She says offering her hoof.

“That is correct. I suppose you wish to join us, do you? Then be warned. If I believe you to be a liability to our mission, I will execute you without hesitation. So long as you understand, and prove yourself useful, we will not have any problems.”

 

Snowy did not take his eyes off the stranger for a second. He simply watched and waited to see what happens next.

 

Silver Heart

Silver Heart sat by herself near the crates, staring at the snow-covered ground. She was so far away from her friends that she felt uncomfortable and lonely. “Why did I come here?”

 

“Why indeed?”

 

Silver looked up to find Kinetic standing by with a cup of tea.

 

“Oh, Doctor Kinetic. Is there something you need?” She asked.

 

Kinetic shook his head. “Not really, no. I thought that you may want some tea to boost your spirits.”

 

“Oh, well, thank you.” Silver accepted the tea graciously. A hot drink on a cold night was perfect.

 

“Won’t you join us at the fire? It’s much more comfortable than over here in the cold,” Kinetic offered. 

 

Silver was hesitant at first, but decided to go along anyway. Even if she just sat quietly, it was better than sitting in the cold.

Icarus pondered the offer. Once he made a decision he put on his mask.

 

"I shall accept your offer, and don't think I'll be a liability. I am a proficient doctor, not to mention some other uses"

 

Icarus motioned to the direction of his old camp

"If you wish, you can scavenge supplies from my old camp, they wont be using them now that they are all deceased"

"It's no trouble, sir. Sadly the story behind learning how to make the stew is a sad and sorry one. Seems to be something that Kine, Captain Aegis and I have in common. Speaking of Kine, where'd he go?" Poppy said with a smile.

 

She spotted Kinetic talking with Silver Heart, the quiet medic. 'I don't think I'll ever understand that pony.'

 

Aegis Dare

Aegis sat by the fire, feeling like he may as well have been talking to the snow for all the reaction he got. 'Easy come, easy go... Next time, I won't get so worked up over things.'

 

He closed his eyes for a moment, and listened to the sounds of the fire. But he could still hear the others, clearer than before. 'Really useful trick... Feel your surroundings with your mind's eye. Yeah, right. All I hear are the same ponies as always. Hold on... Something's different about Gloomy's voice. So our little rebel has a heart after all.'

 

Bright Eyes

"Um, nice to meet you, Miss Darkeye. Forgive my, um, awkwardness. I...don't really spend much time around others, As you can probably tell..." Bright Eyes said, his voice trailing off once again. 'Now I know what happens when a mare DOES want to talk to me. I bungle the whole conversation.'

Snowy still didn't fully trust the stranger, but he was quick to agree to the conditions set forth. He may be an asset after all.

 

"If you wish to think of it as such, I care not. One more condition, you will follow orders when given. This is an official Equestrian investigation, and must be treated as such."

 

He pondered the stranger's offer of supplies. It could still be a trap, but then... Snowy knew exactly what to do about that.

 

"Gather what you need and return here swiftly. If you return, you will follow me to our camp."

Icarus nodded,

"Understood, I shall return soon."

And with that Icarus turned towards his camp and made the short journey there. Once there he crept into his tent and looked around.

 

His medical bags were still there, filled with their various healing remedies and crippling venoms. Icarus reached down and picked up the bags one by one, strapping them under his uniform. After he finished that, he walked outside, and picked up his crossbow, and the seven bolts he had remaining for it.

 

"These should do nicely." He thought out loud, smiling to himself.

 

And with that, he turned and headed back for the other camp,to meet with the guard he had been talking to.

Let me tell you one thing ponies hate the most... a clone of them running around smirking. Hell i was even accussed of having a changeling clone... got in a lot of trouble before i explained that this was my magic. That's why i also learned divination... to be able to figure out the truth from the lies."

Noticing that Kinetic Energy and Poppy Seed went off to do their own thing. Gloom shrugs and heads off to get himself a bowl of soup, After he filled his bowl he walks over and takes a seat by the fire. He eats some the soup and nods. 'Not bad, but it could use something.' He reaches into his pack and pulls out a bag of dried meat and puts some of it in the bowl. Not noticing that he took a seat near Aegis.

Aegis glanced at Gloomfury out of the corner of his eye. He'd be ready to defend himself if need be, but he hoped that it wouldn't come to that.

 

"Listen, I'm sorry I flipped out on you and called you a 'worthless mudpony'. I know Gryphons and those raised under Gryphon codes of honour don't forgive easily, but at least let me make it up to you and explain why it happened."

 

 

Silver Heart, Poppy Seed

Everypony had their own conversation partner, or in the Captain's case, an enemy of sorts. Silver just stared into her bowl, staying quiet.

 

"Don't you like it?"

 

Silver snapped out of her trance and looked around. Poppy was sitting next to her, also holding a bowl of stew.

 

"Don't you like that stew?" Poppy asked.

 

"Oh, no, it's fine. It's just..." Silver began, but decided against finishing the sentence.

 

Poppy glanced at her own bowl. "I bet I didn't put in carrots, or Kine made off with them. Or maybe it was salt that we needed."

 

"Miss Seed, may I ask how you came to be here?" Silver asked.

 

"Are you sure you want to hear it?" Poppy asked in response.

 

Silver nodded, and ate a mouthful of stew.

 

Poppy sighed. "Well, I was born in the slums. A run-down and rotten piece of Canterlot life. I was looked down upon and called ugly names and slurs, such as 'worthless mudpony'. But I wanted more than that life. One day, I was 'contracted' by Agent Fields to be his personal assistant. In other words, I was told that I could help him with his mission or return to a miserable life in the slums. He probably could have done it himself, but how convenient to have somepony who knows the slums, right? He saved me from that fate. If I'd stayed there, I would've killed myself long ago. I've tried to prove myself worthy of his kindness since that day."

Gloomfury Looks up to Aegis after he greeted him while he was still eating a piece of meat. He swallows the meat and clears his throat. "I ain't gonna lie, what you did really pissed me off and I would have teared your throat out with my are teeth if we were in a different situation. but it take guts to apologize. And what you say is true about codes of honour. So you can go ahead and give me your reason why you did what you did and we'll see if I'll consider forgiving you."

Icarus returned to his previous position, and scanned for the firelight that had drawn him to the other camp. Sure enough it was still there. Making sure to take the most direct path, Icarus followed his own foot prints that he had left in the snow. Eventually, he came back to the guard,

 

"I have everything I need, so, shall we carry on ?" Icarus said, with a slightly happy tone.

@@Windbreaker, "Well as far as Divination goes my mother had the same affinity in that sector as me. So... she helped a lot allowing me to figure out ways to use it. She was blind... be her eyesight had been "traded" per say for magic that could show you what normal eyes could not. As far as illusionism goes... i was always a rebel spirit... i didn't want to become a copycat of my mother so i decided during my puberty to delve into the opposite sector:Illusionism. Whether it was books, asking the travelling circus, or es or... well i had the chance to study the performance of Tr of "The Great and Powerful Trixie"... what a chump. She was good at her magic though... Anyways so yea... as far as illusionism goes i was mostly self-taught. Got me in a lot of trouble as i might have said earlier... but i now i see it's worth. You have no idea how useful is creating a clone, even if it's weaker by 40%... Makes escaping easy... not to mention knowing how illusionism works allow me to find things easier."

"The reason I flipped out is because I simply lost control. Lost control, had a behavioural relapse, and subsequently suffered some depression and remorse. And that's it. Nothing more, nothing less." Aegis said.

 

He stretched out, since his muscles were starting to get stiff from sitting still too long.

 

"I used to be angry all the time, y'know. I got into some serious trouble one day, when I went berserk. Don't remember much of that day, just blurs and a muffled slur, like my ears weren't working properly. Next thing I knew, I woke up in a hospital, alone and screaming in agony. I used to go around asking what happened, but now... now I don't want to know. I understand how you feel, but you're not the first who wants my head."

 

Aegis finished, and simply awaited Gloomfury's response.

"Wow. I said this to Midnight, but I'm really jealous of you guys. You've all been out there in the field, and I'm usually too scared to go. I wish I were as brave as the rest of you."

 

Bright Eyes' tone was sincere. He couldn't help but feel useless when the others were all more talented and capable than he was.
