"Hope I'm not interrupting anything! Looks like you could use some help though." Blizzard called when he saw Redwave jump out of hiding. Apparently the plan had changed to get all of us away, preferably alive. Deciding it was far better to help his companions in his own way, Blizzard flew down and started flying in a tight circle around the alicorn as fast as he could with the goal of putting out or at least disturbing that strange fire and cutting him off from reaching the mare. Blizzard just hoped that it worked and that he could keep the alicorn occupied long enough for the others to get away.

"Everythin', thats whats up." Snorted the buccaneer as sherapped a hoof sharply against the side of the armor. "Paid to sit 'n' make everypony think everythin's okay - not go out 'n' do anythin' about it." She continued in clearly forced good humor.
 
She still couldn't quite figure Pavisa out: it was probably her own fault for spending so much time with Redwave: false agenda's seemed to surround the two of them left right and center. The rookie guard on the other hand... she was so open. Naive perhaps, but her intentions seemed to be exactly what she said they were: no secrets, no lies... just a pony who wanted to help others.

 

"Thats why I don't quite get you...  You act like the Old Guard from Saddle Arabia... not like the pathetic excuse for guardians we have here..."

Blast noticed one of the flames assaulting Willow. He knew that Orion didn't intend that, but it was now perfectly clear that he couldn't control his abilities. Anger and determination filled his eyes.

"I'll be back, Red." Without any second thoughts, Blast ran into the inferno. Getting burnt on both his front legs. He grabbed Willow out of the flames and took her to a safer distance.

"I'm gonna snap your brother out of this. You stay here." He said in a serious tone, but a smirk coming upon his face after a second. "Trust me. I want to keep you safe from any and all harm." Blast jetted back to Orion, getting ready to attack.

Saronyx gazed up at the Alicorn defiantly, his gaze simply reading, "Do your worst, and prove me right."  But the worst, never came. Something distracted Orion, and Saronyx was dismayed to find that it was his allies. Any chance at making this stallion see was effectively thrown out the window by this point. The Visionary leapt back as the flames that had very nearly been touching him before grew in size and intensity. His resistances might have protected him, but quite honestly, Saronyx was not keen on giving that theory a try.

 

Among the 'reinforcements', he only recognized Redwave, but there were at least two more. One, a Pegasus, had the tenacity to fly distraction on Orion. Either a very brave, or a very stupid action. But then again, Saronyx's own actions could be viewed the same way. All of these thoughts and processes went through Saron's mind in the time it took him to hit the ground in his backwards jump. Soon as his hooves made contact with the dirt, he skirted around the enraged Alicorn, aiming to assist Redwave in extracting Willow. May the Empress damn him, if he was going to leave that young mare in danger with this disillusioned brother of hers.

Willow's vision was blurred from crashing into the tree; she can barely make out what was happening. She heard muffled voices until she saw a familiar figure; Red, she assumed. She saw some more ponies crowding around her. She saw her brother dashing for her and instinctively put her hooves up to cover her face. "P-please don't hurt me, Orion!" The mare cowered. But then she realized her mistake.

Blast butted heads with Orion. The two of them began running in opposite directions. It was sort of a test-of-strength situation between the two stallions. It was probably not the best option to attack this alicorn head-on, but he just didn't care at this point. He hurt his own sister. He obviously wasn't in his right mind.

"Can't you see what you're doing, or do I have to beat it into your thick skull again??!!" He asked, being more angry than before. "You need to snap out of this, Orion! This isn't you!"

Pavisa frowned just a little at Kingfisher's explanation, one of her ears flicking slightly from where it stuck out of her helmet.  "Is...  Is that a bad thing?"  

 

She had still been thinking about Kingfisher's opinions on the guard from the night before, and now the topic seemed to have come up again.  I never really looked at it from a perspective like hers before...  But...  It does make a degree of sense...  The whole topic was making her head hurt to think about.  Since she had been little she wanted to join the guard; had she idolized it so much as a filly that she had just been blind to the other mare's points before?

 

She let her gaze drop a little, focusing on the road ahead of them.  "...If the guard is the way you say...  Where does that leave me?  I don't want to be part of a corrupt system, but I don't know any other place for a pony like me."

Tactic frowned slightly.  Well, his mouth twitched a little bit compared to his usual blank expression.  A difficult piece, it seems.  She'll take close examination in order to assess...  

 

"If you mean currently, we're walking."  While normally this would come across as a snarky comment, coming from Tactic's mouth it was more like simply stating a fact.  "Should you mean our current objective, you would mean to reach Neighagra Falls.  Our overall objective, of course, to find the Litany of Magic."

Orion recognised this pony: it was the one that kept following him... attacking him... and here he was, literally right up in his face. He looked blankly at Blast as he ignored the Pegasus flying irritatingly around him: truly not wanting to cause any more pain but seeing no other way: he simply relaxed, allowing the other stallions weight to push the two of the back - and raised a hoof wreathed in the sickeningly cold flames to press firmly against his aggressors chest as he did.

 

"I didn't want this..." He said in a voice that might have reflected mild sadness as the ground beneath him cracked and splintered like shards of glass under the sheer burning cold of the spell he had never even heard of.

"Come now, my companions will buy us minutes at best: let us vacate this battlefield then decide what to do with you...." Redwave said, sounding significantly more relaxed than he felt: even from here the aura of the icy fire chilled him.

 

"Saronyx!" He shouted as he held out a hoof to the mare: the serpentine flames still twisting through the battle at random while other fires burst through the ground. "We require a safe route through this bedlam, if you please!"

Seeing that Blast was now engaging the alicorn, apparently named Orion, Blizzard slowed to a hover to get an idea of what was going on. Once he saw that the flames were spreading and getting bigger, Blizzard had an idea. "Blast! Be careful, we just need to buy the others time to escape!" Blizzard yelled over to Blast before flying back into action. He didn't know if Blast would listen, but he really didn't have much choice. The idea was that once the others were all safely away, he could abandon the flames and get Blast to leave Orion so that they can make a hasty retreat. To give the others more time to get away, Blizzard increased the area he was flying around to try and contain the fire. As Blizzard got to his top speed he could tell that it was having some effect, but hoped it would be enough.

He didn't know exactly why, but there was a certain coldness in the mare's tone of voice. Maybe something bad had happened earlier, maybe she didn't wanted to be there or maybe she just was like that around new folks. Regardless, Star decided to leave his assumptions behind and try to be as friendly as he could: after all, first impressions are important.

 

"So, you two know what's happening? What we're doing?"

 

"Um... We're after the Litany of Magic, aren't we?" He answered, assuming that it would be obvious. "Legends says, it is a long forgotten artifact that holds unbelievable amounts of knowledge from the past generations, which if manipulated correctly, can provide its reader with unlimited magic powers. Otherwise, it just teleports away and leaves the unfortunate pony in an insane state of mind." Star rolled his eyes before looking away. "Or at least that's what I heard..."

 

Staring at the ground, his attention was very soon called by a flock of birds desperately flying away, as if they were running from something, or somepony. Since a sudden attack from either another group of hunters or even coldblooded monsters were still crystal-clear possibilities, the worry that once again overflowed from Shooting Star's eyes was understandable.

Rakon shrugged, "Maybe over time this group will learn to work together better.  Though with who knows what sorts of dangers there may be present that should be sooner rather then later.  Maybe even do battle plans or assign partners who'll stay together and help to protect each other instead of just random chaos that seems to be happening so far."

Blast began slowing down for Orion, but was still going at a good speed. He was beginning to see good in Orion's eyes again. Blast didn't give, though, He pointed over to Willow.

"Look at what you've done to your sister, Orion." He said. "You'll just keep doing things like this to her if you don't learn to control yourself."

Taking hold on Redwave's hoof, Willow began to recover from the sudden nauseousness and dizziness. She stole a glance back at her brother pitifully, and followed Red out of the forest. "I'll come back for you later, Orion.. just you wait." Willow reassured Orion with calming eyes, and turned back to Red. "Where are we going?"

Saronyx skidded to a halt, giving Redwave an incredulous look, "Damnit Red, I'm a Visionary not a miracle worker!" 

 

The Crystal stallion shook his head slightly, looking across the pandemonium. It seemed that Orion's flames were spreading, but they were still yet to get out further into the more forested area. Saronyx looked back to Redwave and Willow, then pointed into the trees, "This way. If we're quick enough, we should be able to slip away unnoticed."

He began to trot forward, past the mare and stallion, glancing back once to make sure they were following. Saron heard Willow inquire to Redwave as to where they were going. The Crystal decided to let the Captain answer that, and instead focused on getting as far from the Alicorn as he could. Silently, he sent a prayer to the Empress, that she may allow his other companions to make it out of there safely as well.

Once again, Star was lost inside his own thoughts. He knew that the journey he'd just committed to was going to be dangerous, but did he fully acknowledge just how dangerous could it be? Captain Redwave, who was supposed to be leading the group, hadn't returned yet, as well as a few other fellow adventurers. The beige colt could be mistaken, but something just didn't feel right.

 

"So, where did you two come from?"

 

"Uh... Huh?" Star, though still absent-mindedly, glanced over at Aphrodite for a second. "I'm from Canterlot myself..." He briefly answered and then immediately looked away again, towards the front of the line where two earth mares seemed to lead the way.

"Excuse me!" In place, he spoke loud enough so the ponies at the front could hear. "I didn't wanna be rude or anything like that, but shouldn't we go look for the rest of your crew before moving on? Including the Captain himself?? You're all acting so natural when something really bad could've happened to your friends out there in this dreadful forest! This is a freaking death race, for Celestia's sake!" For a moment there, Star lost it. Unintentionally, of course, but the fear and worry he himself had built up were already getting to him.

Blast looked at the two ponies with angry eyes.

"I'm not Redwave! My name is Blasted Nova! Get it right! Me and him don't even have the same shade of red or the same mane color!" Blast began to get into a physical scuffle with Orion, but the burning affects from his spell were starting to ware him down.

Noticing that the stallion wasn't listening, Aphrodite decided not to bother them anymore. Seeing that the stallion asked Kingfisher if they could find the rest of the group, Aphrodite rolled her eyes. "They're with that crazy alicorn guy again! We better not confront them or we'll get killed!" Meanwhile, she wondered where Blast was..

Crimson tried as hard as he possibly could to simply stay put and observe, in an attempt not to cause trouble, but when he saw that the mad alicorn, now known to him as Orion, was now spreading the strange blue flames and attackimg his friends, he was pushed over the edge, jumping out from his hiding place and glaring at Orion. "YOU DAMNED FOOL! YOUR HURTING PONIES, NOT HELPING THEM!! I'm not gonna stand here and watch you burn everypony alive! So these flames have gotta go!" said Crimson before bursting into flames, he then closed his eyes and concentrated, after a moment, all the blue flames around Crimson began to flow into the flames on his body. "DAMN!! These are some weird flames! I'll have to turn my flames up to a higher heat if I want to keep this up..." thought Crimson before the flames on his body suddenly turned gold. "Ragestar!" said Crimson loudly, the blue flames then began to flow quickly into the Crimson's own flame. "Hey Blast! Keep that fool distracted while I finish up taking care of this fire, ok?" asked Crimson.

 

((sorry if this seems too OP, I just felt a bit useless and saw the blue flame outbreak as a chance for Crimson to finally be of some use, but if you don't like it, I can change it...just say so))

Immediately after her sentence, Star halted in place while deeply staring at Aphrodite, with his mouth agape and eyes wide opened in a facial expression that shouted 'are you serious?'.  What did she mean with a crazy Alicorn guy? Was it possible that even the royalty was after the artifact? He hadn't got a clue - though it evidently sounded like trouble. Everything seemed to become more confusing by the minute. Nevertheless, even though oblivious to the actual situation, the pegasus colt didn't feel like keeping his mouth shut.

 

"If we don't do something, THEY will get killed!!" He exclaimed, not realizing his tone of voice was louder than he'd expected.

"Don't say it out loud!" Blast and Orion pushed at each other. "You'll give him ideas..." He said through gritted teeth. In the test of strength between Blast and Orion, Orion was coming out on top. Blast was beginning to fall backwards into the flames, setting his mane on fire.

"No... I can't let him win..." Blast muttered, putting more fight into it. "Crimson, hurry up..."

"Just... Don't let them change you, okay?" The mare said softly before being interrupted by the gradually rising voices.

 

Turning finally to the next newcomer - who she hadn't troubled herself with so far - she gave an over dramatic sigh and rolled her eyes.

 

"Red can look after himself. Twenty bits says he's here with the idiots in the next few minutes" She explained without breaking pace. "Really, he'll find us."

"Come with me. First, we shall locate a place of safety. Then decide the best action for yourself." Redwave told the mare - Willow - quietly as they hurried through the forest. He quickly grabbed for the compass at his side: muttering into it, he watched as the needle swung into position. "Kingfishers up ahead, bear left! Ih, and Sarony?! For a visiwhatever you did a fine job of getting us clear: you have my thanks for such timely action!"

 

He wondered about the others in silence: as soon as they had gotten the mare to safety he would double back and track them down...

Orion Starsinger.

 

Orion pushed against the earth pony: the Litany had the power to grant in all three domains: not only magic but strength and speed. While some of its power had rubbed off on him, strength wasn't something he had thought to draw from it - physical confrontation was proving much more difficult than the effortless magic.

 

"Try to... hurt my... sister? I'll kill you!" He snarled through the lock up between the two just before his eyes landed on the space where Willow had been.

 

Had.

 

"Wha... Willow? Willow?!" He roared suddenly - watch shaking and birds squealing as they flew from nearby trees. He locked eyes with the stallion "I will find my sister. I will find her, and I will take her back home. Then I will end you all for daring to try and take away the one thing precious to me..."

 

Closing his eyes for a moment, he teleported away to start the hunt for his sister with the same spell as the night before: a timed shockwave. This time though, as the orb of light hung in the air before detonating it flickered: blue fire surrounding it...

"Well we do have a planner now, maybe he'll be able to get this group together." Sand said. She knew that wasn't possible with the way everypony acted, but she could at least hope they could get somewhere. There's always the small possibility... Even if it's incredibly low... She thought.

"Well, I--" Aphrodite paused. The forest was silent. "We have to go. Something must've happened to them." Aphrodite trotted into the forest and eventually found the group. The captain and Saronyx was no where to be found, but she found Orion, Crimson, and Blast. Even Blizzard.. "What the hell is going on here!?"

Willow gave a nod, stumbling on her hooves from the burn, but she still maintained her balance. "Where will we go?" Willow asked, clutching onto Red's hoof so she wouldn't fall over again.

Since Blast was the closest to Orion, he would be caught in the flames first. He tried to turn around and get away, but he didn't have any time to react to the shockwave. While the shock immobilized Blast, the flames began to engulf him. You could hear Blast's screams of pain inside the inferno. When the dust cleared, Blast emerged from it with burn marks and scars, After a few seconds of standing, he knelt to the ground and fell over, unconscious. The flames and shockwave did overwhelming damage to the stallion, both externally and internally.

Saronyx heeded Redwave's directions, and in his trotting forward, turned to the left. He had been ahead of them, so he hadn't caught the captain glancing at his compass, or else he may have questioned it. All the same, he glanced back upon Redwave thanking him for getting them clear. Saronyx was unsure if the white stallion was being sarcastic or serious, but all the same, he nodded, "I try my best." Was all he had to say about that.

 

Willow asked where they would go, "Someplace as close to safe as we're going to get." Saronyx answered, mentally, but he instead opted to let Redwave answer, once again. It wasn't to long after this, that the sound of the orb Orion's teleportation had left behind going off. The Crystal stallion slowed his pace slightly, turning to look back the way they had come, "Oh... Well, that did not sound good, no did it?" He was mainly speaking to himself, or else he may have worded that differently.
