gaming Sonic Lost World: After the Reviews, Are You Still Buying It?

I'm a huge Sonic fanboy, and I've been excited since Sonic Lost World was first announced. When it finally came up, it was natural for people to start making reviews on the game. However, the reviews for this title have been all over the place. There are people that love it, people that hate it, and people that are just in the middle.

After reading the reviews, are you still going to buy this?
Well, I know I am. I'm not gonna let anything any reviewer says keep me from playing the blue blur's newest title.

Oh man you should definitely watch Cobanermani456's follow-up video to both IGN's and Gamespot's review for Sonic Lost World, it's freaking hilarious! happy.png

I don't really care for what they had to say to be honest. If a game looks great to me I'll most likely buy it. I'm definitely getting Lost World, maybe not on release but it's on my list of games to get. It actually plays much better than what the reviews were describing and people on miiverse (atleast in the UK) say it's an enjoyable game.

I'm absolutely getting it. Whether it's true or not I pretty much act under the idea that all reviewers that touch a Sonic game are so utterly biased against the character and developers that they wouldn't give a Sonic game a good score if it killed them.

My only personal issue with the game is that they keep reusing the same themes and it's annoying. Food, casino, Green Hill. They can't get out of this rut because they are trying to be colorful and cartoony and I think that cartoony doesn't fit Sonic at all which is why there's not very much personality in any of the games that try to be this way.

Trust me: I love every Sonic game in existence (that I've played) and that goes straight down the line to 06 and Chronicles which most hate but the constantly recurring themes from the fact that they refuse to try to implement an actual storyline is hurting them more than anything.

Yeah, I read this review. I think it's pretty reliable and gives a good overview of the game in all aspects without omitting some great points (ahem ahem, IGN). IGN did a pretty bad job of their review, just check the comments section in the link I shared :P

Wat. I don't think that's the problem with this game, it's more the little problems with the controls that pop up a lot. And anyway, that's my favourite part about Sonic games! If they took the colourful and funsy aspect out of it I honestly wouldn't be able to take a blue hedgehog who says "Way past cool!" seriously to any extent. It would just be a laughable game. I really think going down that route would lose Sonic's charm in full. I absolutely love that atmosphere of the game.

I don't understand what you mean by this:

What is personality in games?

I think you've missed the point why this game loses points.

Regarding OP, yeah I'll be getting this game. It does look fascinating and the difficulty entices me :0

I've always thought Sonic should be a more serious series. Not necessary adult but just not the cartoony and colorful stuff we've been getting. I don't like it that way.

Take note that I'm not saying I think the game will be bad in any way. I expect it will be utterly fantastic just like the last few major Sonic games. I still think it's wasted potential to stick to the same themes as a game that just came out a couple years ago for no other reason than to have a theme. There is no purpose for Sonic to be going through such worlds other than to have bright and colorful worlds. There's no drive to the story and a mismatch of random worlds doesn't do that any favors no matter how fun it might be as a level. That's what I mean by no personality.

Going to random worlds might work for other games or for early Sonic but I don't like the fact that they do it with the current Sonic. I liked the Adventure-era story driven worlds. I also happen to like the cartoons and comics MORE than the games.

Reviews....don't effect my purchase too much. Especially reviews from Gameinformer. Their team is so biased lol.

When a Sonic game gets reviewed nowadays, it's negative because the reviewer either hates Sonic or is a Genesis era fanboy/fangirl.

No, I'm not going to buy it....why?

Well, I don't own a 3DS or a Wii U at all but when I eventually do get one of them, I will probably purchase the game. I don't really listen to reviewers because some of my favorite games are hated while some of my least favorite games are loved. It all just depends on who you're talking to. It looks a little too "Mario Galaxy" for my tastes, but I will probably still give it a shot.

I don't exactly trust reviews if anyone who reviews a game is biased towards the company who makes the game. I'll still buy it, even if there are some negative/mixed reviews of the game.

-Words of widom have been spoken.

And to end this comment, yes I am exited. Personally i hope they add a highspeed button to go at highspeeds. I hope they still have the lightspeed set of moves sonic can produce. Im hopping to see what theese wisps can do now.

Have you seen their review on the game?

They used Mad Space from SA2 when they were comparing it to Mario Galaxy XD Sad.

I don't always watch Cobanerman, although I did like his reaction video to those reviews.

After taking a glance at the good and bad points from Gamespot's review, all I can say is that they came up with the lamest bad points, (Derivative of Mario Galaxy? Way too much "dude bro" in the cutscenes? Really?) and the single good point that said "2D sections are nostalgic fun" just nearly says it all, doesn't it? It doesn't help that the person who reviewed it is considered a classic Sonic fan. Honestly, I'm almost given the impression that this person was in fact biased against Sonic since the beginning of his 3D times.

From what else I have seen, I'm probably getting a Wii U for Christmas, and I will pick this up as soon as I can.

I agree on you with Sonic not fitting for a cartoony style. I actually somewhat enjoyed Sonic '06 as well, with one of the reasons being was its slightly darker tone. But even if it was as bright as it was in the Adventure games or Sonic Heroes, that would be great.
