FNGRpony 658 November 14, 2013 Share November 14, 2013 I do not want Luna to have little play time. But seriously, they should give her more. And I don't want any humans. But I don't want them to like up and forget about EqG. i just got done peeking through the first 4 issues of the comic, and she gets a cheap joke about getting lost on the way to a town she was suppose to save ^^. mean while spike and celestail was saving ponyville. Celestail...(off screen) did stuff. she's even busted up a little lol. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JvTYhrZUgYY flight to the finish. i continue to improve,
Hell Patrol 41 November 14, 2013 Share November 14, 2013 This was originally a post of mine, but appearently too many topics and I was told to direct myself somewhere else. Too lazy to edit it to be a small post, but it's basically what I don't want. " I want it to cease this overwhelming trend of contrivance that has been the sole rationale for most actions in S3, EqG, and even parts of S2. It seems that ever since the tail end of the second season this show has been hell bent on becoming the most generic and contrived piece of media ever, only saved by its rather creative roots and trunk which are rapidly being crushed to the point of collapse under the weight of recent decisions. You can like Twilicorn, and even Brad. But there's one thing you can't deny, and that's the reason for their existance is such a contrived idea. It's this obvious trend in the story development of the show, a trend which I express genuine surprise at the fact that it has not been pointed out more even by the standards of the fanboy echochamber that is brony discussion, a trend of profligate business practice more transparent than the cranial cavities of the simpering dickbags who brought forth the very idea, and that's to make the show more of a little girl princess fantasy. Twilicorn needs no explanation, it showed all the foundational buildings of making a character who little girls would want to be, hence in the vain hopes of the corporate children who populate Hasbro, attracting more viewership. "But surely you jest Hell Patrol? That was at worst a toy decision!" I can hear you chortling now from your recliner while ordering blind bags off of ebay for your shrine to Hasbro. Well look no further than Equestria girls, all of it. Specifically Brad, if the entire movie only being around Twilight wasn't enough, it expands upon the pretty princess little girl fantasy by incorporating tweens into the mix. As I mentioned a moment ago, if you like Brad, and even Twilicorn that's fine. But don't come telling me that giving Twilight every tween girls dream of having a wealthy personality free jock who drives a Camaro dance with her (who is a royal princess) and bring her to prom queen isn't exactly the definition of a contrived tween girl fantasy. Say what you will about "the show is for girls". But that can't excuse this moronic set of "creative" (and I use that word at loosely as tween girls use the word swag) ideas which have been forced upon a show that clearly never had any need for them." DokiLoki 519 November 14, 2013 Share November 14, 2013 I propbably don't want Flash Sentry to appear in one of the episodes (cuz i'd hate that), I don't want them to not get their cutiemarks in Season 4. Its been ages come on, I'm keen to find out what marks they get on their flanks and their special talents. (though its quite obvious what they are), also (this might no happen but i'm going to mention it anyway) if they're going to get more focus onto humans/EqG in the show it'll be a total disaster. 1 A True Friend sees the first tear, catches the second and stops the third I make GIF avatars for FREE. Dark Qiviut 22,464 November 14, 2013 Share November 14, 2013 A while back, I wrote down my top five "nays" for season four. You can read them in this link (along with my top five "yays") or my copy-and-paste below. Twilight is the same character with merely the wings attached to her. Twilight becoming an alicorn princess indicates a huge social and psychological change for her, and I expect the writers to demonstrate this. If Twilight, at any point, becomes merely the same character before Magical Mystery Cure, even though she's an alicorn now, then Magical Mystery Cure becomes a twenty-minute commercial for the toyline. Prove to your audience that Twilight's transformation was actually worth it and not worthless! Bold ideas are rushed (to conclude the episode). Keep Calm and Flutter On and Magical Mystery Cure each went really bold, but did so for the sake of wrapping the series up. There was way too much going on to make the episodes conclude logically and realistically. They were cramped and poorly organized. Games Ponies Play was much more conservative, but even Polsky rushed the ending to wrap that piece of garbage up. Writers, your best episodes tend to go as conservatively as a Republican. Take your time and slow down! Episodes with atrocious characterization, especially if there's more than one. In season three, three episodes had really bad characterization: Spike at Your Service (Spike being incompetent and careless with a dumb "Dragon Code"; Pinkie acting way too random for her own good), Just for Sidekicks (Spike was an incomprehensible bastard with no regard for his friends' pets and trust), and Games Ponies Play (EVERYONE with the IQ of 3!). Pay more attention to the characterization, keep it consistently in character, and don't have the characters acting stupid! New characters are introduced for one episode, only for him or her to never reappear, whether the characters are antagonists or protagonists. One of my biggest peeves with the series was how characters appear once (in a two-parter or self-contained episode) and never again (i.e., Braeburn, Trixie, the Flim Flam Brothers, Chrysalis, Peewee). You have a character there. Use him/her. Don't throw away potential. The background characters barely appear. In season three, the budget was much smaller. If you want evidence for that, look no further than the lack of appearances of the background characters. Cheerilee only appeared once. Lyra and Bon Bon barely showed up following Magic Duel. Derpy didn't have one frontal appearance until the finale. Season four appears to have a bigger budget, so background characters have the potential to fill in the background and possibly even do something instead of leaving the scene empty besides merely the animation puppet standing there. A few more things, too: Celestia and Luna being useless, especially Celestia. Since Return of Harmony, her role has been greatly reduced to a two-dimensional caricature of herself, and that's a shame because of her interesting, three-dimensional concept. Give her a role as well as some development to make her a character instead of a plot device. Out-of-characterization of Pinkie Pie and Fluttershy. Season three brought them both out at their very worst. Pinkie was often just a random laugh box for cheap laughs. Fluttershy was reduced to a bigger background pony than Rarity despite her star episode, along with a Timidshy shell of herself in episodes such as Magic Duel midway through. Keep Calm was the first time since Return of Harmony that took advantage of her character development and lessons she learned. More of THAT instead of the out-of-character Timidshy will do. Mars Caramel 319 November 14, 2013 Share November 14, 2013 They didn't even get beaten up, though. Just spit at, and had tomatoes thrown at them, and dust blown in their face, and Babs dressed up as a wolf when they were dressed as sheep and stupid stuff like that. They should have at least got hurt. Also, maybe just one of them would die and they'd have to deal with their death, I'd say kill Scootaloo since she's kind of useless anyway. They could air Sleepless in Ponyville first just to get that one out of the way before killing her. It wouldn't have to be graphic for any of the other ponies either, just have it happen off screen. If Babs was only in one episode and died in it that would be no different than Sombra. Did you just ignore the main point of my post? If you really want to see cartoon characters die for plot convenience, go watch a cartoon that's willing to do just that. MLP is definitely not one of them. Blastdown 9 November 14, 2013 Share November 14, 2013 (edited) Well, I don't want Scootaloo to fly, but I think it's a little to late for that, seeing that one of the episodes in season 4 may make Scootaloo fly For me, it's the opposite. I don't want them to confirm her incapable of flying. It could continue to be a mystery and never answered, but I don't want to see them take that from her. Especially after the animatic scene where Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon tease her about it in the same episode. She should be able to fly with her new mentor/"sister". It doesn't make her a Rainbow duplicate, she's very different from her. I've seen many who believe she should be the example used for a disabled-lesson, but there can always be another. Unfortunately, I disagree that she is off the hook on this issue, they could very likely stay true to Lauren's ideas and follow through with this. That aside, I don't really want to see Gilda again. I get the feeling we will and it'll be redemption-based, but really I think she's one of those characters that should remain what she is. She ditched her friend for the sake of image, she has no reason to return except to flip her personality. Also, Discord. I don't want them to completely disregard his past. He was an evil and chaotic creature for over a thousand years, that doesn't rub off just like that. His old ways need to leak every so often, if need be Fluttershy could be there to pick him back up, but it shouldn't just be forgotten. I believe the writers already know this, so I'm hopeful. satyesu 0 November 14, 2013 Share November 14, 2013 (edited) Also, stop using the EoH as Deus ex Machinas and give them consequences EDIT: And have Celestia or Luna do something useful for once Yes. T he EoH have become a sort of Megazord. When all else fails, as you said: rainbow powers activate. No friendship lessons, or at least not one every episode ala season 3, it seems they are moving away from that anyway so I'm not too worried.I also really hope they don't have too many episodes mostly about one character in succession, if there's one thing the show really needs to work on it's that, and I hope they tried to work on that at least. You know, that didn't occur top me. A thought I had that I don't know what I'd feel about would be a colt replacing Twi in the M6. P.S. I'd nevver multiquoted before so sorry if this is wack. Dark Qiviut 22,464 November 15, 2013 Share November 15, 2013 (edited) IF flutter shy is a back ground pony Well, she ain't a background pony due to her collective screentime and development, yet Season 3 treated her as one because she behaved stagnantly and didn't put her front and center that much. Applejack was the background pony of the Mane Six in the latter of Season 2. Season 3's background status was transferred to Fluttershy. This leads to another wish that I hope doesn't happened: a complete imbalance of screentime, one beyond that of Season 3. Season 1 shoehorned Twilight in every episode. Season 2 rectified that mostly, but the season's latter half left Applejack in the cold. Last season had a big imbalance with Fluttershy and Rarity being left behind. With Twilight as an alicorn princess, there's plenty of worry that FIM will be Twilight first, everypony else second. Magical Mystery Cure and Equestria Girls, both being factually bad in quality, only intensified those worries. It's going to be a matter of time before those worries are quelled, and if those worries don't get resolved, you'll only get your audience impatient for the wrong reasons. Sugar Cube 4,843 November 15, 2013 Share November 15, 2013 (edited) Well, this is a copy/paste from one of my older posts on the subject, with a few changes and additions: The Cutie Mark Crusaders getting their marks. It feels way too early to pull the plug on these three, and giving them their cutie marks would be doing that IMO. They've proven all throughout season 3 that they can be fun and entertaining characters even when they're not pursuing their marks, but ultimately it's this kind of growth that I would like to see expanded on even more before they actually receive their marks. I disagree with the argument that they need to change in order to stay fresh. They've grown more likable each season. Trixie returning. I know the Trixie fans will hate me for this, but while I like her character, there simply isn't any need for her to return in every season. She's had her friendly banter with Twilight and the two of them have no need to butt heads anymore. Should Trixie return, it should be for minor cameo purposes and not as a focal character as she was in Magic Duel. Background pony episodes. Just no. These characters are background ponies for a reason. Save the characterization and storylines regarding them for fan fiction. An imbalance of focus on the characters. Season 2 was heavy on Pinkie Pie and Rainbow Dash, but light on Applejack, Rarity, and Fluttershy. Season 3 was heavier on Applejack, but Rarity and Fluttershy still suffered big time. I know it's asking a lot, but I'd love it if S4 had a near even amount of episodes for each pony, and hopefully spread out well. I'm tired of waiting until the second half of the season just to get any Applejack episodes. Fluttershy backtracking on her development. I want to see Fluttershy grow a little more consistently, because it feels like she often learns a lesson for one episode and then forgets the lesson later. Seeing her try to run away from helping Twilight in Magic Duel was very disappointing. Twilicorn being overpowered, Mary Sue like, or anything other than the Twilight we know and love. Twilight being the solo hero. Her friends need to prove their usefulness as much as possible. Return of Harmony was the last two-parter where all of the Mane Six really worked together as a team. A Canterlot Wedding and The Crystal Empire seemed to lack that emphasis on the magic of friendship. No more of this, "Mane Five do nothing/work as a distraction so Twilight does all of the major actions." No more episodes where Cadance saves the day. In fact, I wish they'd tone down on the use of Cadance entirely. Princess Luna episodes. She's fine as the minor secondary character that she is, but she's not as important as Celestia and never will be. She shouldn't be milked just because of her wild popularity. Call me crazy, but I like when the show focuses on the Mane Six or CMC. Applejack lying. For the element of honesty, she sure fibs a lot and frankly, I'm tired of all the arguments stating that she's not fit for her element. Lack of effort on potentially amazing villains. Sunset Shimmer could have been something very special, but instead we got a very generic villain that resulted in a lukewarm reception at best. King Sombra was also met with a mixed reception. Less Snips and Snails, PLEASE. Honestly, I'm pretty flexible and open-minded, so most of these are minor requests.
