Twila watches Sabel consume her food, mesmerized. She's pretty in a dangerous sort of way. 

At the gesture to Skuldaf, she looks over to see him happily eating away at the unappetizing meat. 

 

Hesitantly, she pokes at the faux meat, and sniffs it. "It doesn't smell too bad, but the appearance alone is enough to make gag."

 

Twila holds out her hooves for Sabel to throw her the key, trying to remember where the rooms were.  "Thank you both...but if one of you could just show me where the rooms are, I think I can find my own." she replied.

 

Looking around at the table, she whispered, "So, who are the others here?"

Sabel smiles as she stands up, still twirling the key on her tail.  "Actually, I have no idea where it is...  Considering that's where I'm supposed to be sleeping tonight, I'll walk with you.  I need to find it too, right?"  Laughing, she turns towards Skuldaf.

 

"Did...  Did you just say you're sleeping on the roof?  And, more surprising, did you just say you actually LIKE that garbage you're eating!?"  That settled it for Sabel - Skuldaf was absolutely the strangest pony she expected she'd meet.  Blinking, the griffoness shakes her head and sighs.  She'd slept on plenty of roofs herself in her travels - usually without the owners of the building realizing it - but she'd never known a pony to do so.

 

Turning to head towards the door, she grins at Twila again.  "Coming?  Oh, and I'm not sure about the other two...  I'm hoping to get a chance to meet them later.  They seem cool."

Blinking in confusion, Twila realized that she wasn't that late after all. "Yeah, I'll follow! Maybe I can find something other than this," she paused to point at the half-eaten plate, "in my room or along the way."

 

She scampered off the seat to catch up with Sabel, but not before addressing the mysterious Skuldaf:

"I'm too cowardly to sleep on the roof due to my fear of heights, but I'm sure the breeze feels nice...see you around?"

"See you around" Skuldaf said before walking up-stairs to the roof. Already the owls and night-hawks were making their noises and beginning to hunt. The rumors were true, the swamp was a hot-bed of wildlife. Skuldaf looked around the swamp as the night began. He had no need to sleep, so he stood there, looking out at the swamp

Walking past some of the other guests as they exited the dining room, Sabel brings the room key up to where she can get a look at the number on the tag.  "Huh.  Looks like ground floor.  Guess that's what I get for not looking at what I'm grabbing..."  She flexes her wings slowly as they walk before turning back to Twila.

 

"So what do you think of this place?  Seems pretty nice to me, for being in the middle of a swamp the way it is."  She was just trying to make small talk, and it was the first thing that came to her mind.  Sabellah distracted herself by looking at the room numbers as they entered the wing of the building with the guest rooms, trying to find the one that matched the number on the key.

Twila walked alongside Sabel, observing all of the small details of the hotel that most would miss, such as the expertly designed interior of each area, the vases of flowers and other decor items. The hotel had a rustic yet cozy charm about it.

 

"Mm, I think it's quite lovely for being an old hotel basically off the map in the middle of a swamp, haha. They've really tried to make you feel at home and yet maintain a certain level of sophistication." 

 

Suddenly, she stopped, squinting her eyes a bit. "Hey, I think these might be ours?" she pointed at the last two doors on the left.

 

I wonder what Skuldaf is up to on that roof of his?

Stopping to flick the key off of her tail and into her talon, Sabel compares the number on the tag to the number on the door.  "Yep, this should be it.  Let's see what the digs look like, hmm?"

 

Unlocking the door, Sabel steps in first to see what her room looked like.  It seemed fairly well furnished - a desk, a cabinet, a couple beds, a large window...  Wait, a couple beds?

 

She turns her gaze towards the beds and scratches at the back of her head before chuckling softly.  "Huh...  Looks like this one's set up as a double..."  Grinning she turns her gaze back to Twila.  "Hey, you said you didn't have a room yet, didn't you?  Well, it looks like I have space for a room mate if you wanna crash in here...  Just throwing it out there."

Twila slipped past Sabel into the room, taking it all in. Not bad, not bad.

 

Her eyes rested on the second bed at the same time Sabel mentioned the double room, and their eyes locked for a second. Does this mean we'll room together, I wonder?

 

"Sure, I don't see why not. I mean, it's not like we're sleeping literally in the same bed," she added and inwardly cringed. Ugh, stupid, stupid, stupid!

Skuldaf looked at a small lizard as it ran past him. A baby Hydra, quite rare. Skuldaf followed the creature as it crawled through a window, attempting to observe more of its behavior. He vaulted through the window and ended up in Sabella's room. 

"Hi" he briefly said before continuing his hunt for the baby

Suddenly, Skuldaf burst into the window, waved a quick hello, and vaulted back out.

 

Twila blinked a few times in shock before giggling to herself.

 

I wonder if I should follow him...? 

She walked over to the window and stuck her head out, looking for him, but he had disappeared as quickly as he had came.

 

Still smiling from the amusement of it all, she turned to Sabel.

Sabel laughed and waved a wing dismissively.  "What, don't want to be in the same bed with sharp claws and a beak?  Heh, I'm just teasing, it's fine...  I'm just as surprised as you are that it's a double room anyways.  I guess they have doubles and singles here...  You have a preference of which one you-"

She was interrupted by Skuldaf's sudden appearance in the window, and just as sudden disappearance.  She ran over to the window to stick her head out and call out after him.  "Hey!  Don't you know it's rude to barge into a girl's bedroom like that!?"  Rolling her eyes she smirks as she looks back to Twila.

 

"Huh?  Oh, hehe, amusing is one word for it I guess...  Remind me to lock the windows before we go to bed tonight either way."

"I might be a girl" Skuldaf said as he climbed back to the window, having lost sight of the lizard. "I was, after all sterilized and made neutral so that I wouldn't get any attractions" Skuldaf said, in a tone that sounded strangely bored for the dark matter. "That happened a long time ago, I don't remember what or who I was before the project" Skuldad said, filing a hoof against the wall

"The Right one, please! I have this thing about choosing right-sided beds, she quickly replied, looking at the bed.

 

"And no, no, that's not it. I just...erm...nevermind," she finished, blushing a bright pink.

"Wow, that's so...sad. I'm sorry, Skuldaf. I don't even know what it must feel like to feel...nothing, and to know nothing about yourself, not truly, at least." 

 

She walked over to the window to watch the sun slowly setting over the quiet marshlands, crickets starting to chirp in unison with the change.

Mirror followed Wish's gaze to the table with the jerkpony, griffin, and a stranger. She had remembered Wish staring at the griffin a few times before. Mirror was about to ask if Wish wanted to join that table...or at least talk to the griffin, when the three got up to leave. Instead Mirror focused on the task at hand, "C-can you eat that much? I think a single apple would be enough for me."

Wow...  He really is a freak, huh?  "Hmm, that sucks."  That was about as far as Sabel's pity went...  She wasn't a cruel griffon, but it was hard for her to feel bad about something she didn't understand.  

 

Sabel climbed into her bed, leaving Twila the one that she had requested.  The griffoness dropped her bag next to the pillow, drawing her hunting knife for a moment to check the blade before slipping it back into its sheathe.  She had to admit that it felt good to lay down for a moment...  Though she still planned to check out more of the hotel before going to bed.

Hack trotted into the dinning room. He was surprised to see that it was fairly empty. "Well maybe not empty, but there are fewer pony's than I expected." 

 

He slowly walked through the few ponies left in the room, and took a seat at a long table. He looked towards his left and right. It felt like he had missed something. He tapped his hoof on the table and tried to call a pony so he could order. "Hey... can I get a waiter?"

Twila hopped onto the bed, testing out it's springs and softness. It was to her liking perfectly. She fell back onto the pillow with a loud thump, sighing heavily as she stared at the ceiling, deep in though.

 

I wonder when I'll get to meet Wish, Mirror, and Hack, she thought to herself, watching as Sabel took out a sharp looking hunting knife for inspection. Definitely don't wanna get on her bad side.

Giggling a little at the thought, Wish shook her head.
 
"You really think I could do that? Maybe Scribe could... not me though: I meant for taking with me, in case anything happens while I'm exploring!" She explained, before placing her order and receiving a rather surprised look from the waiter: who seemed to not want to ask questions after the 'meat fiasco' over at the other table.
 
After she and Mirror Image had received a small pile of food, eaten a little and packed the bulk of it into the already full saddlebag, she stretched out.
 
"On reflection, I think I'm going to find my room before I do anything else... scout out the area, you know?" She shrugged, looking at the overflowing bag as she stood up and led her quiet friend away.

Sabellah turns to grin at Twila, using a wing to push herself up from the bed.  "Hey, you wanted to take a bath right?  I'm going to go for a quick flight around the hotel, see what I can see from up above...  We can catch up after if you want?"

 

Sparing a glance back to her bag, she decides it would be safe enough to leave it there.  There wasn't anything in there that she was too concerned about, except for her bracelets.  But Twila didn't seem like the kind to take them.  Besides, if they did go missing, Sabel would know who to ask first.

 

With another grin the griffoness starts to walk towards the door back to the hallway.  She was looking forward to getting to stretch her wings...  And to get a good view of the area around the hotel.

Skuldaf closed his eyes, not to sleep but to meditate. The cool air felt good on him and he was grateful he still had a sense of touch. His mind slowed to a crawl and he saw a knot of destructive magic within his horn. He sighed before firing off the energy ball into the sky, freeing up the tension in his horn. Another curse of his, his power constantly replenished. It was a curse because it replenished too fast and unless he was firing blasts off every second, his magic was always severely weakened due to strain. Skuldaf opened his eyes and saw Sabellah. He was grateful that his energy discharge hadn't hit her

"Sure, sounds good. Meet you up there in a bit!"

 

Twila walked into the bathroom, and her eyes immediately went to the size of saucers. The bathtub shower combination was fit for a Princess! And the bathroom was decorated in lovely, calming shades of pinks and browns. I think I'm going to like it here...oh, bubbles! she thought to herself as she began to fill the tub with hot, bubbly water.

 

She dunks into the not-too-hot bath, sighing in bliss as the suds tickle her coat and cover her in bubbly goodness. On the rooftop above her, she could hear the clip clop of Skuldaf and Sabel, most likely in yet another battle of wits.

A waiter trotted up to Hack, looking somewhat disheveled.  After two orders for meat substitute that he had no idea they stocked, and then a ridiculously large order for two seemingly small mares, he had no idea what the rest of the night must have in store.  "My apologies sir...  May I take your order?"

Sabel had managed to avoid the random bolt of magic energy, though she swooped lower to glare at Skuldaf.  "Hey, watch where you're aiming bud!  You break it, you buy it."  With a smirk at the pony she turns to fly back towards the back of the hotel.  She wanted to fly over the garden before it got too dark to see anything.

After checking over the keys and making perfectly sure there wasn't anything Mirror Omage needed (despite being told several times already that there wasn't) Wish finally retired to her room: leaving her unusual friend back at her own. Of course, she didn't intend on just abandoning her: there was just so much to explore, and the quiet mare didn't seem quite as interested in adventure as she was.

 

Unpacking a few maps, papers and books, she filled her water bottles and replaced them - splashed some cold water on her face and looked about - deciding to start from the bottom of the hotel. They were in a swamp after all: there had to be something interesting nearby!

 

She slung the (slightly) lighter saddlebags back onto her back, swung the door closed and made her way outside at a cheerful pace, her eyes following every small movement and bright colour she passed - just knowing that there would be something worth finding out there!

Mirror Image walked into her room and set her saddlebags on the chest of drawers. It seemed like a nice room. The bed was larger than the cot she had been sleeping on before. Most likely it was more comfortable too. After pulling the blinds closed Mirror neatly folded her father's cape and set it next to her saddle bags.

 

The day had been tiring. The incident with the bully on the boat had taken more out of her than she had thought. Holding the illusion up for around a minute at a time was all she could do. But it wasn't all bad. Wish was a new friend. At least she was pretty certain that Wish was a friend. Sometimes it was hard to tell. She could have just been nice.

 

With the last energy she had for the day Mirror began to practice her magic by creating orbs of light. If she was going to follow in her parents hoofsteps she needed to practice daily.

Twila started the drain the bath, feeling warm and content. I wonder what the others are up to? she wondered thoughtfully as she made sure to dry behind her ears.

Wiping the fog off the mirror, she stopped to really look at herself. She had never felt that she was a gorgeous pony, just sort of average. Her coat was a periwinkle coloring--nothing special--but it was silky as a cat's. Her hair was one aspect she as actually proud of; it curled elegantly, a mixture of dark purple and a sky blue. When the strands hit the light, they even emitted a subtle shimmer from their glossy shine. She also had a spiraled horn, being a Unicorn, that did set her apart from other ponies. If only I knew how to properly use my magic, though...

Upon entering the room, she discovered that Sabel was out still. Hmm, she must be out exploring.

 

"Sabel? Are you around here?...o-okay, guess not." she called out meekly into the hallway. Nothing.

She heard rustlings of movement a bit down the hall, and upon further inspection saw what seemed to be a soft glow coming from another room door. She decided she mind as well greet them. She knocked on the door hesitantly, unsure who she'd be meeting...
