Charcoal smiled and walked over to Lee. She sat in the chair next to him and looked down at her hooves. She wasn't sure what to say in this situation. She barely had anything to talk about to her friends, let alone Lee. She simply sat in silence in her chair.

Lee pulled out a bottle of cider and a few lemons. He used his magic to do a simple juice squeezing spell and poured the lemon juice in to the cider, then mixing it up before taking a deep swig. "Ahhhh, that hit the spot. You want some?" He smiled at his own voice, he could get used to having a voice this deep. It was kinda cool.

Charcoal smiled and took the bottle. With a single swig of the drink she was already hooked. She drank nearly all of it before realizing what she was doing and stopped. She looked at the bottle with only a quarter of the drink left. "Oh... s-sorry for drinking it all."

Lee smiled. "It's fine, I got another few bottles with me." As he said this, he pulled out another bottle and added some more lemon juice to it. He took a deep drink then put the lid back on it, stuffing it back in to one of his pockets on his vest he was wearing.

Charcoal smiled. "Well that's good." Charcoal said. She finished off the rest of her drink. Now her mind was going back to thinking about Lee. How was she going to explain this to him. Would he even accept her? Too many questions swarmed Charcoal's mind and not enough answers.

Solar Sentinel

Solar's eyes opened wide as we was awakened by the announcement through the airship's intercom. "It never fails...I just get ready to dose off and where here. I think most everypony is here. I'm going to go find Sunny. I'm sure Moon Crypt was us all together before they leave for recon." Solar said as he slowly uncurled himself from the ball that was him sleeping. Standing on all fours, he yawns and shakes his head knock the drowsiness away before stretching his wings.

 

Solar slowly walked past the bridge door, looking in. "Moon Crypt, Gardain, Lee, Charcoal....If you want to head in Jaeger, I'll go find Sunny." as he set off to find the bubbly mare before landing.

Jaeger watched as his friend walked out....he wanted to stay in the bridge and find Shadowblade and ask more questions but he decided not to. He ran after Solar until he caught up. "You know I think I'll come with you...I'll stay out of your way when you meet up with Sunny, but you know me....can't stay on the bridge with all those ponies...." he said in a cold tone.

Solar began his trip though the ship to retrieve the golden maned mare, looking throughout where she may have been. "Miss Sunny, We're almost ready to land. Everypony is gathered in the bridge. I think that Moon Crypt may want to give us a final before he leaves before he leaves for his recon mission."

Solar was not yelling, just talking loudly so he could be heard walking throughout the ship trying to find Sunny.

 

 

Jaeger watched as his friend walked out....he wanted to stay in the bridge and find Shadowblade and ask more questions but he decided not to. He ran after Solar until he caught up. "You know I think I'll come with you...I'll stay out of your way when you meet up with Sunny, but you know me....can't stay on the bridge with all those ponies...." he said in a cold tone.

Solar tuned around as Jaeger walked up behind him, stopping dead in his tracks. "What do you mean my....meeting up with Sunny...." as he began to turn a bright shade of red in the face. "She is a part of the team. I just thought she'd like to be in the briefing for the mission...that's it." he said somewhat defensively.

 

He couldn't deny that she was cute and talented, but had to keep his mind on the matter at hoof, the mission, however his real fear came into play now...mares...he had always had trouble talking to them without putting a hoof in his mouth...

A small clang and ching could be heard not far from Solar's position, like metal against metal followed by a growl that soon faded into a whimper. The noises would pick up very briefly before dying down continuously. Sunny was in the cargo hold, tears pouring from her face as she swiped at the metal boxes with her rapier furiously, sparks flying spectacularly. She was very frustrated, relieving her anger...though, she had accidentally managed to cut herself a few times in the process as her strength became tired...but she still continued. The mare wanted to be strong. She wanted to be able to care for herself and not become a liability. She wasn't defenseless...she couldn't be.

Jaeger nodded with a chuckle...he knew that deep down inside Sokar had a crush on Sunny...it was as plain as the clouds in the sky. He then heard some clanging noises. "Do you think that's your mare me fine fellow?" he said nudging Solar.

Solar facehoofed at his comment. "That obvious hun? I'll go check it out...but could you give me a little bit of time to check in case I go all mushy?" he said with a laugh trying to hide his nerves about retrieving the mare.

Solar opened the door, entering the cargo hold, his eyes not believing what they where seeing. He could see the tears in her eyes. His emotions got the best of him as he flew over to her, but not knowing what to say, stood their a few seconds before said a word. "How...Um....Nice moves Miss Sunny!" he said nervously to the mare. His mind was racing before he heard his fathers voice in his head, telling him what to do as he slowly walked over to her. "You have great potential Miss Sunny. You are like a diamond in the rough." His first instinct was to put a wing around her to comfort her,extending it as to hug her, but retracted if for fear of what she might say...or do....she was armed after all. "If it's all right with you, I'd like to train you. Between me and Jaeger, you'll be able to take on a hole army of demons yourself."

 

A slight tear came to his eye as he remembered his father telling him something similar when he was a young colt. "..Please Sunny, let me help you..."

It was ironic that the usually happy mare was now infuriated in her own feelings of weakness...What sparked this feeling and why was it so strong? She couldn't help Charcoal, couldn't change her past, just like her family's: she was helpless...and it hurt. Sunny couldn't hear Solar, not even being aware of his presence. The mare was so tired though and had managed to hear Solar's last few sentences, beating her back to reality. After one last missed placed strike, Sunny collapsed with the sword bouncing and clanging from her grasp. She finally began to feel her cuts and her aching muscle, grunting a little as she wobbled back to her feet and looked to Solar. Her mane was ragged and her face was stained with tears as she looked at him almost bewildered. Quickly, she brushed back her mane and rubbed the tears from her face, only managing to wipe blood from her cuts upon it in the tears' place. It tore her apart on the inside when she saw the tear fall from Solar's eye...another pony she managed to upset. Sunny trotted over to him with strain, about to wipe the tear from his face as well but stopping as she saw her cut hoof out in front of her. The mare then looked up to him sadly and apologetically. "I'm sorry Lieutenant..." she managed, almost trembling.

"Let's get you fixed up. Sound like a plan?" He said trying to smile, but unable to. "That...um....you reminded me of myself as a colt there. I wanted to be big and strong to protect my mother when dad was away...weeks at a time on duty." Solar said as he tried to stop from tearing up. "You can just call me Solar." as he puts a wing over her. "...I was...I...," as he gulped. "This is an important mission. you were selected because of your strength. You may not be the biggest pony, or strongest pony, but you've got the most important thing off all, a strong heart. Everything else doesn't matter. You can be trained to be better with a sword, you can lift weights to be stronger, but you can't train what's inside you."

 

Solar took a deep breath, looking at the crates, seeing one that had 'Ship to 743rd Sky Guard.' He would recognize those crates anywhere as a set of armor...the new ultra light armor. He had an idea. He also saw a medical kit on the wall. Though he was not a medic, he was trained to dress minor wounds.

Sunny looked down at Solar's chest, thinking of her own foolishness. She remained silent as her ears dropped along her mane sadly, turning her attention to the minor cuts along her hooves. She felt very childish next to Solar, this stallion of unwavering kindness and virtue. Unlike he would ever do, she ran to throw a tantrum in her own self pity...or at least that was how she felt. "You don't need to do that..." she lied hoarsely, "I'll be alright..."

Jaeger sat out side the door to the cargo bay, he could here muffled voices coming from inside, one was Sokar and he guessed the other was Sunny but it was to faint to make out. He wasn't going to barge in there for fear of Solar chewing him out. He just let another cigar and began to take a drag. He wines if he was needed he would be called. Or he would wait for them to exit.

"Sunny, your one of us. We look out for each other...We take care of each other.." as Solar walked over to the med kit, taking from the wall to wrap her cuts. "Sunny, you have to have faith...Faith in the group. With us working as a team, we should be unstoppable. I can understand your being scared. beneath all this armor, I'm just as scared as you are, if not more..."

 

Solar stopped for a moment, "Somepony saw something in you to select you for this mission, they have faith in you, just as I do. How about you let me dress your wounds, and you can try out my 743rd's new armor. We can go to that briefing in style!" he said trying to cheer the mare up.

Sunny smiled through her sadness, unable to remain upset with Solar being so nice and encouraging with her. She then allowed him to dress her cuts, looking upon him wonderingly as she felt his hooves work around her's. He was very handsome, something she didn't seem to totally notice before. The mare blushed ever so slightly at his touch before reacting to his recommendations. "Thank ya so very much Solar...I'm sorry I was actin' like that..." Sunny apologized again, "You're a very nice pony..." The mare then looked over to what Solar was mentioning somewhat curious before returning to Solar happily, "I'll be alright...armor always seems to make it hard to dance."

"Sunny, this is the new stuff. It's strong as steel, and as light and flexible as a Wonderbolt's flight suit....just ignore the wing holes..." he laughed. "Just humor me and try it..Ok?"

 

"Well, we better get up to the bridge. Moon Crypt has something importaint to tell us." he says as he walks to the door.

 

What had just happened...did she like him back? If there was one thing he was bad at, it was reading mare's emotions, but he had to keep his mind on the mission. but he had a slight smile on his face. "Sunny, I have something here for you. I trust you...I trust you with my life out there. I need you to trust me also. I gave one of these coins to Jaeger earlier. It's a Sky Guard coin. I had them minted for my squad. We use them to show trust, loyalty and friendship. You have earned this." as he puts the coin in her hoof. "I just want you to remember that as long as you have that coin, you are a member of the Sky Guard, you are a broth....sister of the guard."

"Looks like we're landing soon, come on you guys, better get to the bridge...Double Time!."

 

Solar didn't know what had happened in that hold, but he had at least made a friend, if not something more.

Sunny smiled and nodded, as she slowly packed her way into the suit, wincing a little at her bandaged cuts. "Alright, but if I start sproutin' wings, I'm blamin' you," she joked.

 

When Solar put the coin in her bandaged hooves, Sunny smiled and held it preciously, looking back to him with bold eyes. "I will always trust ya Solar...and you can count on this mare to have your back," she affirmed, walking up to bop him on the nose like she had taken so kindly to doing but recoiled in remembrance of her injures. To make up for it, she nudge him as they walked out of the cargo hold. Sunny then reared up at Solar's claim, running alongside him as he and Frosty proceeded to the bridge.

As Jaeger got up and ran alongside the two ponies he gave a sung grin. Yeah thy totally dig eachother. he thought, mentally chuckling as he looked over to the mare, it was sunny alright. After her singing he couldn't forget that always smiling face. He grinned and greeted her. "Hey Sunny! We haven't talked since the bunker have we?" he asked with a laugh.

Sunny gleamed brightly at Jaeger, "Howdy there sir, you're right. It's been a while. I've got many more ways to try and make ya smile," she teased with a wink. She was surprised at how quickly Jaeger had warmed up...but she felt very happy about it. The mare tried to hide her bandaged hooves though, slightly embarrassed by her own recklessness.

Jaeger smiled and let out a fair sized chuckle, "Really now? I'd like to see you try your hardest." he laughed as his gaze lowered to notice her bandaged hoofs. He figured since she had just been in the cargo bay, many things could have caused injuries to the hoofs. "So....did you get in a fight with the cargo boxes or something?" he asked, grinning widely

Sunny's smile quickly dissappated as she stuttered to find an excuse to hide what she had really been doing, "I-I was..." The poor mare couldn't lie to Jaeger as she felt him looking at her curiously; thus, she remained awkwardly silent and turned her head to her side in shame.

Solar walked along with Sunny and Jaeger, keeping in step with them. A large smile on his face. When Jaeger mentioned the cuts, Solar shook his head. Being a bit taller than Sunny, he was hoping that she would not see him gesturing to Jaeger not to ask.

 

"Jaeger, when we get a chance, I need to ask you something after the meeting."

 

Solar's attention was back on the mare, noticing that her mane did not stick up through the top of the helmet like it should. "Sunny, here, let me help you adjust that helmet. You should be showing off your lovely mane, not hiding it under that helmet."

 

Solar looked at Jaeger. "Oh, by the way, look what I found in the hold. The 743rd's new armor shipment was in there. Miss Sunny here has been kind enough to model it for us, and to an extent, test it out....Funny thing is, It was the only case with my unit marked on it. There where plenty of containers marked with generic supplies though..and some case that said something about a Black Legion supplies. Do you know what that case would be?"

Jaeger looked up from sunny and locked eyes with Solar, he saw the gesture and immediately felt guilty. "You don't have to awnser that Sunny..." he said his voice trailing off awkwardly. He let out a sigh of relief eh when Sokar began to speak to him, changing the subject is something that was needed.

 

Jaeger nodded at Solar's first statement, "Sure....your questions always interest me anyway." he said with a shrug as he listened to the next question. At this Jaeger raised an eyebrow. "Really? It could just be a regular shipment of armor and weapons.....or something I don't know about yet..." he said, hesitating before letting out a small chuckle.
