What is a good first car?

it all depends on what you have to spend, and how you want to be driving your fisrt car.

most people buy a car as first vehicle somewhere in the 1-2k market. you seem to have a lot more tough.

i would still go for something that tops at 5k. for a first car you don't want to have anything valuable. if you're anything like me you want to really, really drive your car, without thinking of the consequences when you accidentially break a fender or something.

also, basically anything japanese is hella easy to fix and have enormous aftermarket and stock markets, so parts come cheap.

Dammit the stupid 20 character minimum on posts.

it used to be 100, so you're way better off now XD

Well not all Japanese cars are easy to fix. Look at some Subarus, Those engine bays are so tightly packed you would be lucky to get your hand to fit anywhere. I have also heard Nissans can be a real bitch to work on as well.

Got all sorts of cool factor, cheap to insure, cheap to drive. What more could you want?

Also brilliantly fun.

What more could you want?

Maybe a roof when it rains, and a heater when it gets cold. lol (Being cold is probably not much of an issue in Australia)

Comfort, bikes are pretty low in comfort.

Only accident I've had on mine was not my fault. Stupid deer.

They do make rain gear for motorcycles, as you said staying warm shouldn't be an issue, and bikes aren't as bad as people make them out to be unless you're doing whole day trips on them or something.

i've been driving through the dutch weather on my bike for about 3 years now. and rain gear didn't help me one bit. if you go for a bike, prepare to get wet and cold.

as the old adage goes... loud pipes save lives.

I hate those people with extremely loud Harleys. I don't see how they ride them, they make me almost def sitting inside a closed car next to them. lol

Also I gotta say, I really like the OC in your avatar. I can't stop looking at it every time I see a post of yours. lol

It depends on how loud it is imo, I was never the biggest fan of harleys but I do love a V-twin sport bike (they're getting rare nowadays)

It's true though that the louder your pipes are, the more noticed you'll be on the interstate. If people were more observant and learn to check over their shoulders before lane swaps it wouldn't be as big of a problem, but I've had people try to come over on me before. Honk and they typically catch that you're in the lane.

Thx about my avatar. It's supposed to be a ponified version of Ayanami Rei from Neon Genesis Evangelion. It's not a creation of my own, but I did touch the eyes up since the original artist got them the wrong color.

For a first I car I don't know what to recommend, but don't take anything to expensive, just in case. Until you learn.

I was actually thinking about this and for me I would take a Yugo.

I would LOVE to have a Yugo. There is actually one for sale in my area, but the guy wants way too much for it.

It is basically just a Fiat built in Yugoslavia. I read a whole book on the car, and the guy who brought it to the states.

Would you believe though that even the Yugos we got were actually majorly improved over the ones they actually sold in Yugoslavia?

Like they had a completely different assembly line, with the factories top workers working on these cars, and they were proud to be building these cars for Americans.

The biggest problem with these cars was the electrics, and timing belts. The timing belts had to be changed ever 40k miles, and if they weren't they could snap, and since they were interference engines, which basically means when the belts snapped the pistons basically smashed into the valves, and then you were pretty much SOL, because that would require an entire head rebuild which would probably cost as much as a new Yugo.

How much does he want for it? I saw Yugo's that go bellow 300 euros. http://www.polovniautomobili.com/oglas4183482/zastava_yugo_55_reg_2412/

And it's not a Fiat built in Yugoslavia, Fiat bought the company around 2008 I think, before Fiat had nothing to do with it. And in case you haven't noticed, Yugoslavia doesn't exist anymore :P

And they were proud to be building cars for Americans, in fact one of the favourite communist worksongs there was one about bringing communism to America xD

"It was designed in Italy under name Fiat 144 as variant of Fiat 127. The first Yugo 45 was handmade on 2 October 1978 as a Fiat 127, under license from Fiat, with a modified body style."

From the wiki page.

He wants $2500 for it. http://columbus.craigslist.org/cto/4166897733.html

Also shitty pictures. lol

Hmm I guess you're right. I thought that you were thinking about todays Yugo, I prefer calling the older ones Zastava.

2500$ is too much, at least what I think.

Who needs cars? I have a segway and I can get around just fine.

Plus, It's funny to see the looks on peoples' faces

Segway has the same problems a bike does, except now you have to stand. Also adds the inconvenience of batteries that need to be recharged, which takes like 4+ hours. Same reason electric cars suck.

Plus you look like a complete goofball on them. :P

Bro.

1. Just charge the batteries at night

2. Think about the environment

3. Segways are awesome

lol

Dude, no hard feelings.

I don't hate segways, I just don't think they are a good main source of transportation unless you are going somewhere that is walking distance from your house or apartment.

This baby right here. Ford all the way.

I wouldn't say a good first car, because if that is someone's first car, they are not going to be able to handle it, then it is going to end up wrapped around a tree.

But awesome car nonetheless. This is actually a friend of mine's all time dream car.
