GhostPony750 959 December 22, 2013 Share December 22, 2013 It could have been something else, even with the anger factor. You know, super strenght without being so ugly and big. And even, this power is fitting Applejack more. Remember "The Stare" and her ability to talk to animals, writers? Well, the episode was epic, until she exploded. MLPFanatic34 3,241 December 22, 2013 Share December 22, 2013 I thought it was so funny seeing Fluttershy angry like, I mean she literally snapped and was like "Oh heck nooo!!!" Sort of makes sense though considering the episodes where she used "The Stare" or turned mean because of Iron Will, she'd be the one who gets angry and goes hulk. Still enjoyed seeing them all with superpowers and trying to adjust to them, good episode 10/10.
Orablanco Account 3,708 December 22, 2013 Share December 22, 2013 Or, OR, and your gonna have to stay with me for a minute because this is gonna seem really weird and out there at first, maybe, just maybe, it was just suppose to be a silly joke. Keep in mind that this was also an episode where the villain was defeated when her hair formed a straightjacket around her body. While Fluttershy's anger issues are most definitely a part of her character, sometimes a character turning into the Hulk is just a character turning into the Hulk. It isn't like this is a regular thing now; it was just a punchline to a running gag in the episode regarding Fluttershy's usual passiveness and restraint. 1 Onwards to my DeviantArt page! Jammo 986 December 22, 2013 Share December 22, 2013 If the goal of this scene was to make me laugh, it succeeded big time. So kudos writers and animators, you delivered. Incoming muscle fetish rule 34.. Bleck.
Zygen 6,066 December 22, 2013 Share December 22, 2013 I didn't mind it at all, its been shown that Fluttershy when really threatened or angered or when she feels her friends are in danger can hold her own ground, and she isn't just always the shy reserved scared of everything kind pony that she is sometimes made out to be. Personally i thought it was perfect, the only one who could've possibly done it other then Fluttershy would be spike, and i still think it wouldn't work as well, plus it would also make Spike less interesting in the episode i think. So yeah, i personally loved it and thought it was fitting and funny and wasn't really bothered by it, shes got angry before, but seeing it in a comic book like way was just awesome ;p. But thats just my opinion, i'm not one to really be displeased that much really, i'm an easy customer i guess. Plus i'm a Fluttershy fan so ;p. i guess my opinions aren't worth much. 2 Thanks to Gone Airbourne for the awesome sig! Lyra's Pants 154 January 18, 2015 Share January 18, 2015 (edited) Flutterhulk was intended to invoke that assertive side Fluttershy gets whenever provoked. I believe this is supposed to be a callback to such episodes as Dragonshy or Stare Master, where she loses her temper over the abuse of those she cares about. The oft-delivered moral of Dragonshy and one of Fluttershy's defining traits are "Beware the Nice Ones." Additionally, the Rule Of Funny may be in effect here; perhaps due to the novel concept of pony superheroes, I assumed the writers gave Fluttershy Hulk-like powers for humorous irony. There's something to be said about a shy, innocent pony going absolutely berserk over the bullying of a firefly. In my opinion, I thought Flutterhulk was just absolutely stupid. I know how Fluttershy gets whenever she's angered, and I can appreciate how much she has a protective streak over those whom she holds dear. The problem was, there is a clear difference between assertiveness and blind rage. It felt like Power Ponies was written by someone who only knew Fluttershy from "Best Night Ever" or "Putting Your Hoof Down." Since when does Fluttershy used physical violence to solve conflicts? I know episodes like Putting Your Hoof Down were clear indicators, but those concerned entirely different scenarios. Here, Fluttershy just smashes a hair-dryer cannon to pieces, completely violating what makes Fluttershy such a brave, strong individual. Her courage doesn't come from brute force, but the ability to use her words, exercising a peaceful approach. Would we take the moral of Dragonshy seriously if Fluttershy just kicked the crap out of that dragon? Overall, Flutterhulk was stupid, annoying, unpleasant to look at, and out of character. Dulset Tarn 441 January 18, 2015 Share January 18, 2015 It was definitely a gigantic insult to her character, not to mention a stupidly contrived deus ex machina. Like imagine if Pinkie's power was that when all her friends abandon her she cries a flood. It's just... downright mean.
Red Cedar 1,408 January 18, 2015 Share January 18, 2015 I don't think it was such a stretch from her character at all. It was done for laughs, no doubt, as the shyest, most gentle of the Mane 6 suddenly becomes a raging destruction engine, but in all honesty, watching an innocent creature, any innocent creature, get callously abused without feeling, would very much be one of the few things that would make Fluttershy genuinely angry. If anything, it seems to me Fluttershy has a history of bottling things up a little too much due to her insecurities. It only happens about once a season, but when Fluttershy loses it, she really blows up, with or without the gamma radiation. 1 Roleplaying OC: Red Cedar - Cast Character: Applejack
sweetolebob18 728 January 18, 2015 Share January 18, 2015 This whole episode was played for laughs. I mean, Pinkie used her power to get snacks, R's comment to the effect that her super power was a good fashion accessory, T not being able to cast the right spell. F's being urged to get angry & not being able to get angry the bad guy was trying to kill them & rule the world, but losing it because she hurt a bug was just part of the over the top humor. But, to my mind, the serious part of the episode was Spike feeling useless & at the end saving the day even without super powers. Yes, the episode could have worked w F having, say, Beast Boy powers or being a vampire like Flutter Bat. Still, F has had a Bruce Banner/ Hulk side ever since Dragonshy in Season 1. So, I DON'T think it was unfairly picking on my 2nd most favorite character.
RainbowTashie 379 January 19, 2015 Share January 19, 2015 My one concern with this week's upcoming episode is Fluttershy transforming into a Hulk-like monster as her super-power. I understand that her anger issues were a part of her character, like in Best Night Ever and Putting Your Hoof Down, but Flutterhulk is just taking it too far. Why couldn't she be given a nicer super-power that's closer to her character, like animal communication or Beast-Boy-style animal shapeshifting? After all, Twilight, Applejack, and Pinkie Pie have powers that are closer to their personalities. And, even though Rainbow and Rarity's super-powers have yet to be revealed, hopefully they'll be related to their personalities as well. But Fluttershy becoming a giant monster, even though it detracts from and destroys her cuteness factor? I'm not advocating for MLP G3, which was cuteness done wrong, by the way. All I'm saying is that her power could've been adorable just like her, like animal communication, which is more in-character for her than Flutterhulk. It's like Shadow the Hedgehog all over again, where they take all the cuteness and childhood innocence, and deliberately replace it with adolescent angst and hatred, just because "cuteness is no longer marketable"! Plus, the whole "Angry Fluttershy" thing has gotten old and beaten to death. Why can't we have cute Fluttershy, like old times? I mean, us regular human-beings have no problem posting pictures of adorable animals with purposefully-misspelled captions on the Internet. So why not Fluttershy with herself? i'm with you here flutterhulk wasn't even comical it was just a what the acual buck moment Sig tweaked to perfection by Coby!
