Cutie Mark: Three converging knives. His wings keeps it hidden most of the time.

 

Personality: Joking and easygoing when everything is clear. At the first sign of danger, his demeanor drops, and he revels his personality to be a calm, no-nonsense military pony that uses cold logic rather than emotion to determine his actions. Currently one of Celestia's Royal Guards.

 

Backstory: Growing up in a harsh family setting, Crystal Flame was always deprived of the things he wanted. His parents didn't give him anything. No toys, no food (he had to work to earn his own gruel-to this day he's not sure what exactly is in it), and most of all, no friends. His personality suffered as day after day, he trudged outside to earn some money while all the other fillies and colts played happily under the sun, and every night, he trudged back in. And if he didn't give up every last bit he'd earned immediately, he'd get beaten raw. It was the worst possible life he could have imagined. There was nopony to teach him that life wasn't harsh, and so he grew to devalue it.

 

He got a break when the bandits first came to Ponyville, and Celestia sent up a call to arms across the town. He was one of the first to enlist, happy to get away from the family that he hated more than anything, and was in the front lines in the decisive Siege of Stormwind, where he showed strength, both physically and tactically. Being promoted to a lieutenant in the Ponyville Militia after the war had ended, he picked up a keen interest in tactical strategy. His sense of devaluation in life grew to help him here, and allowed him to order soldiers into combat towards certain death, burn villages to deny them to invaders, and starve the enemy into submission by burning down farms. As his victories accumulated, he was noticed, and eventually was offered and accepted a position of Celestia's own Royal Guard. It is there that he resides. He may be a brutal and cold soldier, but deep down inside, all he wants is the happy childhood that was deprived of him.

 

Alternate Backstory for Shifted (ignore if you have no idea what this is)

 

Growing up in a hard life, Andrew was always deprived of the things he wanted. His parents didn't give him anything. His personality suffered as day after day, he trudged wearily to school to be met with laughter, scorn, and pain from the bullies, only to come back that afternoon tired, sore, and unhappy, to abusive parents that beat him raw. It was the worst possible life he could have imagined. There was nobody to teach him that life wasn't harsh, and so he grew to devalue it. Although not suicidal by any means, neither did he care. He became apathetic to life, and when the rift opened (Shifted RP), he was one of the first to go. After all,he had nothing to lose?

After discovering that he was a pony, and realizing that he had no idea what he was before, all he had to go on were his fuzzy memories-not enough to remember his past life, but just enough to mold his personality. He sought friendship amongst the other ponies, to try to fill a gap that he had been deprived of since his own childhood, although he did not know it at the time. It's not all old recollections, however. Time will tell to see how Equestrian ideals can change the direction of one pony's life.

(And for Arylett, I know you said no especially tragic backstories, I hope this doesn't count as too tragic, it's basically a mixing of my life with my fanfic)
