searching Need help planning a myth RP

I had a vague idea a little while ago about an RP set in either ancient Greece, or Egyptian times, but I'm struggling to come up with a plot. I'd like it to have a conflict, rather than just be slice of life. Anypony got any ideas?

I was leaning towards Greek myself. I love Greek mythology. I'd like it set among the common people rather than the gods however, tho they might be brought in at a later date, as Greek deities did like to meddle with mortals a lot. I'd also prefer to limit the number of deities as they'd obviously be alicorns and too many alicorns spoils the RP, so to say. I'd prefer the bulk of the action set among the day to day lives of the mortals. XD

If you go with the Egyptian time period but have issues with the number of gods, you could go with the monotheistic Atenism period (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atenism)

 

During that the Pharaoh rewrote everything and made Aten the god of the sun (Celestia like anyone?) the sole god. Plot could also revolve around something related to that. With the other "gods" being enraged at their exclusion.

Hmm... okay. So... maybe there's a war with the Romans, fighting over unclaimed land. Little did they both know, this was where Zeus had destroyed the titans. On they raged, until the Romans won. Then, an elder walks up to the leader and tells him this. The gods are enraged, they send down their storms, trying to get their point across.

 

 

And.. that's all I've got. Could I be one of the goddesses?

To be perfectly honest I think Greek would work better because there is a lot more of the Greek mythological stories floating around than Egyptian, I'd also like to be apart of this but as far as back-story goes my story skills are very limited so :S

If you'd like one team of RPers vs. a bunch of DM made obstacles:

 

The King of Greece has been severely crippled by an assassin of Troy. He lies in his chambers, dying. Medicinal Practitioners have all tried and failed to heal the King. The only thing that can save Greece's sole sovereign is the Golden Fleece. A group of (insert number here) is sent to retrieve the Fleece, which resides lost inside the Sea of Monsters. For added affect, pegacorns could be demigods?

 

Or, if you'd like two sides, and a primarily combat based RP:
