...just why?

I mean, faces and heels make up a large part in wrestling...

Didn't he say that back when he introduced the Attitude Era?

I can't see this really happening, ever. Wrestling needs heels and faces.

Speaking of WWE, I've been trying to get back into it recently but it kind of sucks. They can't really do as much as they used to be able to do due to the PG rating and the new batch is wrestlers isn't that impressive. Maybe it'll improve now that the Rumble is coming up, which is always fun to watch.

Vince knows wrestling better than anyone in the world though so I wouldn't be surprised if he pulls it off.

If he is serious about this than he is trying to make the WWE like another UFC and it is simply not going to work. I can understand why he would want to try to appeal to some of the UFC fans and expand the brand but getting rid of heels and faces seems a bit drastic. If anything it would make a lot more sense to simply create a sub brand within the WWE if McMahon wants a wrestling brand without faces and heels.

Wow, I never saw that clip before but I was definitely watching the WWF at the time.  :)  Basically I think, at the time, he was referring to the rise of more anti-heroes and tweeners such as Steve Austin.  Two of the 80s more successful wrestlers, Jake the Snake Roberts and Bad News Brown, were very good characters of this sort.  Neither totally aligned with good nor evil.  But they were in a sense ahead of their time.  It wasn't until the Attitude Era that morally ambiguous wrestlers got regular main events and lengthy title runs.

I'm not sure what Vince hopes to do today.  But I can't see them doing away with the good guy vs. bad guy struggle that has defined kayfabe wrestling for a century now.

I've always been under the impression that all wrestlers are naturally heel. They're just putting on an act being a face and kissing up to the crowd when it suits them. Faces will usually resort to the heel tactics. A face is no more above resorting to a cheap shot like a heel does.
