gaming Nintendo third party.

I think that will just be a waste of time. They should give it a nice price drop and add a few new features that will make somebody choose the wii U over an Xboxone. I don't think giving up on a console is ever the answer unless you plan on going third party.

I think a lot of people felt pretty burnt by Sega by the time the Dreamcast ended. They blew it with the Genesis by attaching two parasites (Sega CD and 32X) to it, blew it with the Saturn by just failing miserably to make it work in the US, and finally blew it with the Dreamcast by not making right decisions to keep them afloat. That would be horrible to go through something even remotely close to that with Nintendo.

To this day the Dreamcast remains my favorite console of all time. The saturn WOULD HAVE been good if they released all of the Japanese exclusives in the rest of the world as well, but I have to agree, the 32X and Sega CD were just awful. They bottomfeed off of the genesis and make it look like an ugly monstrosity. I feel like the Wii U MAY suffer the same fate as the dreamcast, though in a different way. The wii U has third party support, but lacks first party support, and the dreamcast had plenty of first party support, but lacked third party support. Nintendo better act wise, and fast! EA didn't support the dreamcast OR wii U, so that is at least one similarity. But EA are a bunch of crooked money hungry slobs anyway.

In all fairness though, Sega screwed themselves over. Nobody would have liked it if they released the disc add-on that they were planning on releasing so you could play DVDs on your dreamcast. They figured that from the poor 32X and CD reception. But if they were to continue, without any add-ons then they would have been bankrupt.

Both Sega and Nintendo played it wrong. NEVER release your console first in the generation. It allows the competition to look at your specs and make something better.

But do you think the Wii U will be their last console?

But do you think the Wii U will be their last console?

It is a possibility, but hey, the thing released just a little over a year ago. I think it is possible for them to turn the car around and make the the wii U awesome. If they don't support the wii U, then yeah. They might just move strictly to handheld gaming. It may be their last console for a while, but it is just because the market is terrible right now. People don't have time for consoles. Many people would rather play stupid $1 games from the app store. I still think Sega is planning on coming back when everybody else fails. It is just a theory, but Nintendo may try that. Leave for a while, but then come back, bigger, and better than before.

But Nintendo hasn't made a new IP since the Gamecube.

Um, yes they have, they've made/published plenty of new IPs since the GC from the Wii line of games, as well as some really amazing stuff like Xenoblade and Pandora's Tower, to most recently The Wonderful 101. I can't see anyone making that statement with a straight face unless they just completely ignored the Wii or something...

They could most certainly make it third party if they happened to do it. Their games are still some of the most well-made games in all of gaming.

Imagine if their resources were all put into their existing and even new franchises instead of into their consoles?

Don't get me wrong, I'm perfectly fine with the state of Nintendo right now, but in the end the games are what truly matter and seeing Nintendo go all-games would be pretty amazeballs.

Nintendo should drop the Wii U, and start to work on their next console.

Yes, after about 6 million people have invested over $300 each in this new console, the absolute best thing they could do is drop all projects for it and ask them to pay $400 for a new one.

Words cannot describe how brain-dead that statement was.

Maybe I played the Emperor Yoshiro clip to soon.  "No first party support"?  What world do you live in?

Won Game of the Year award in Game Trailers and Eurogamer.

And that's just the king of the mountain.  There's also Lego City Undercover, Pikmin 3, and Scribblenauts.  And I'm disregarding the remakes, ports, and multiplatform games: Wind Waker, Tekken, Spiderman, Need for Speed, Dues Ex, Resident Evil: Revelations, and Rayman Legends.  The Wii U has a lot of great games.

I like how so many people give up on the console only a year after release. I mean, I know initial sales are all the rage but most console generations are at least five years long. There is a lot of time for the Wii-U to pick up steam.

I don't have a Wii-U but I bet I can walk into any Gamestop and pick up at least ten games for it that'd be absolutely worth my time and money. Some people. >__>

I've said it before, and I'll say it again; the Wii U has TONS of potential to win this generation. The console opens up the door for a new, innovative way to play video games. However, if they're going to win this generation, the need to

  • Get more Third Party Support
  • Let them make new ways of using the gamepad
  • Advertise themselves better

Nintendo's advertising stinks right now, but what really stinks is their lack of third party support. As others said at the top, stuff like that was how they won the console wars of the 90's. They can repeat history with their new competitors; Microsoft and Sony, who I think shouldn't be in the console race in the first place (More so Microsoft than Sony.) If they just do what needs to be done, they'll be right back in this.

The one advertisement I really don't like is the one where they show the "simulation" of the family playing to that same family. I've never met anyone but I've heard a lot of stories of people who legitly believe that stuff can happen with game consoles.

But I don't see how Nintendo can have another successful console after this.

Are you kidding me? Before the Wii Nintendo had TWO consoles that lost their respective generations. And they still managed to make another console that blew the rest away. This is hardly that bad.

Yeah. Super mario 3d world and Pikmin 3 were pointed out to me. It was a slight exaggeration but my point was think about how many games Nintendo made for the wii U compared to the amount of games they made for the 3ds. I know the wii U has good games, especially some that I'm looking forward to in the near future. If it didn't have interesting games for it, I wouldn't have bought it in the first place. ;) I just wish Nintendo would focus more on the big picture rather than the 3ds. Edited by Judgement

Well hasn't the 3DS been out longer than the Wii U has anyway? And didn't the 3DS have the exact same problem with it that early in it's life too?

I guess so. I just wish Nintendo would try a little harder with the wii U. I plan on giving it a few more years. Hopefully Nintendo makes a great exclusive and finds developers that don't make games for all consoles. Many people buy consoles just for the exclusives.

In my opinion Nintendo is trying greatly, just maybe not getting the traction it wanted. Plus because it's failing, nobody wants to develop for it. A catch-22 if you will.

At one point I could definitly agree that Nintendo itself needed to push the Wii U better and put more and better things onto it. But in recent days, I really don't think that anymore. I wish companies would just take a risk and attempt to develop something on the WiiU, because that's what would push the WiiU out of it's rut. But they never try, and I guess I can't really blame them for it. But I think the moment has somewhat passed from where it was exclusively Nintendo's fault the WiiU had been doing so bad.
