Guest February 10, 2014 Share February 10, 2014 So today I was browsing along the old Steam, when my buddy Gabe Newell decided to show me that Postal 2 Complete Edition had a major update. Reading the little blurb on that page it stated "Now with 95% less bugs!" I couldn't help but laugh because I thought to myself as someone who took advertising in college and just as a person: "that is not a very good selling point. That's like advertising that the game now finally works." I mean I know that might not be their intention, but wow does it look bad on them. Being someone that has played Postal 2 the original though, I happen to know the game is buggy beyond words and it was outdated the day it was released though. So it got me to thinking, what are some of the worst advertisements or selling points for products you've ever seen?
Pinkie Dust 85 February 10, 2014 Share February 10, 2014 umm almost any website add for mmo's their so dumb in fact I'm looking at one right now for wizard101, like the games arent that bad sometimes but the ads are stupid
lomk 20,663 February 10, 2014 Share February 10, 2014 Specialized dating sites have the worst ads. Especially FarmersOnly. Like, I don't think the budget for this advert could have been more than $100 And let's not forget the classic Cougar Life. That's gotta be one of the worst site names ever lol 2 I refuse to let go until you're impressed. I refuse to let go until I'm depressed.
Megas 27,672 February 10, 2014 Share February 10, 2014 The Xbox One before E3 and the policy changes Microsoft: Here's the Xbox One! It does everything from TV to Sports to Skype to Fantasy Football! . eris . 1,661 February 10, 2014 Share February 10, 2014 One of the worst is that stupid Kmart commercial about the "shipping", with all the double entendre. Seriously, a ten year old could have written that, snorting to himself the whole time about how "hilarious" it was. Something Floaty 1,334 February 10, 2014 Share February 10, 2014 That EHarmony.com commercial that used the CEO's granddaughter in the ad. Seriously? You run a dating site for adults and your best idea is to use your eight-year old granddaughter to advertise? 2 Signature created by Champion RD92
Envy 6,169 February 10, 2014 Share February 10, 2014 Probably a pretty well-known commercial for being bad, but I still have to post it: If you haven't seen this before, this is the real commercial, no edits, no looping. That's really what it was. And I have no idea how in the world anybody ever thought that was a good idea. >.< Also, where I live we have this airport parking company that makes some of the most annoying commercials ever, and then pays to have them spammed on every radio/TV station around. I can't post any of them because they aren't available on YouTube, but I can't not post about them because they're just that bad! Every single commercial/ad the company has ever made that I have heard is awful, no matter what direction they take it in. They have really turned me off from using their service, should I ever fly again. 5 Everything needs more woodwind!

pinkamenasdelight 17 February 10, 2014 Share February 10, 2014 I can understand making pens with designs that appeal to girls. But advertising them as solely for women? That's just stupid. They do it all the time with inane objects by stratifying them between boys and girls. This article from buzzfeed offers several disheartening examples of it: http://www.buzzfeed.com/erinchack/pointlessly-gendered-products Ear buds, tea, MAN-kleenex, girly tape. Something Floaty 1,334 February 10, 2014 Share February 10, 2014 I was so happy with man-kleenex! When I think of all of the times over the last 26 years that I suffered the emasculation of blowing my nose into plain white girl-kleenex, it makes me shudder. To think it took them so long to create a tissue for men, one I can be confident with as I cover it in mucus and immediately toss it in the garbage can! 4 Signature created by Champion RD92
Sir Fluffernutter 435 February 10, 2014 Share February 10, 2014 I'm on mobile right now, so I can't post video, but have any of you seen those General insurance commercials? Some of them are pretty bad. Especially the one joking about pregnancy due dates, that one was fairly awful. click here
SasQ 1,376 February 10, 2014 Share February 10, 2014 (edited) Steve Ballmer, the CEO of Micro$oft, selling Windows 1.0 like a real door-to-door Amway salesman ;-) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tGvHNNOLnCk "There's Windows Paint, MS-DOS Executive, an appointment calendar, a card file, a notepad, a clock!" "Aaaand... can you believe it?! REVERSI!" "Now with 95% less bugs!" This means that the remaining 5% is still there? @: "FarmersOnly" Hahah nice I almost heard Applejack and Big Mac VAs speaking there ;D Gosh, how I wish to see this commercial ponified! Bronies: 3,2,1, go! (P.S: I must be that city folk, since I don't get it either ) "Cougar Life": this one is actually pretty good :-> All those sexual allusions (exploding soda can, the too short guy... ) @@Envy, "HeadOn": Yeah, and when watching it, I had an irresistible urge to apply my forehead directly to some nearby wall And I have no idea how in the world anybody ever thought that was a good idea. >.< Yeah, it might seem weird, but I think I know what reason could be behind it: Repeating a phrase makes it forcefully engrave into your brain, and it will then bounce inside your head like a ball in a pinball game This is not supposed to be understood consciously; this is rather a hypnotic or brainwashing technique. ~Chaotic Eddie~ 479 February 10, 2014 Share February 10, 2014 This advert. The selling point seems to be solely that it's German. I mean, Germany's cool, but you can't use the fact that it's German ass your entire selling point! 1 I do poetry. long gone 8,929 February 11, 2014 Share February 11, 2014 Microsoft saying that you can watch TV while playing games or Skype while you watch TV on the Xbox One. Scootalove 10,689 February 11, 2014 Share February 11, 2014 The Xbox One commercial, trying to show that it is worth getting and that it can do anything that the PS4 can't do. Microsoft, just stop. All you have is Skype, not really anything that we need. No offense to any Microsoft fans. Credit: Moony © Forum FAQ Forum Rules
hawkflame 3,310 February 11, 2014 Share February 11, 2014 Not sure if this counts as a selling point. Technically it's just knocking the competitor's product, but I think it needs to be mentioned anyway. It's a commercial for the Atari 5200, Basically saying how it's better than the ColecoVision. One of the points of comparison was how much better the Atari 5200 Pac -Man was better than the ColecoVision Pac-Man. Except that there is no ColecoVision Pac-Man. However, the ColecoVision could play Atari 2600 games (yeah, that'll never happen today). And the 2600 did have Pac-Man. A *very* shitty port of Pac-Man, even for its time. So in trying to knock the competition, they were *actually* knocking their own crappy port from a few years earlier. 1 Sig by Thunderstorm Check out my Rarity fansite!
