New Generations?

Bird Mom

So far there are three generations with cartoons. (G2 did not have a cartoon). Do you think there may be another My Little Pony generation?

"Pay attention to these petals, Steven. The petals' dance seems improvised, but it is being calculated in real time based on the physical properties of this planet. With hard work and dedication, you can master the magical properties of your gem and perform your own dance!"

What do you think of me?:

Since G4 is the most successful generation since G1 by attracting a whole new audience in addition to also being population among the "target" audience I think Hasbro is going to want to ride this cash cow for as long as possible so yes I think there will be a G5 eventually.

Well, honestly I think there is going to be G5, but not in near future. Hasbro won't cut off A HUGE source of income (because of the merch) by cancelling G4, which ton of people adore, and make G5 instaed, which probably won't live up to the expections of the fans. Staying on G4 is a win-win situation.

Joyfire (ask page), Miroslav (under construction).

Uhh... equerio is a not-so-lazy Serb who has been to other countries smile.png

He may have been banned from the Welcoming Plaza, but he is still welcomed here biggrin.png

I think this one will end once the demand for toys has gone down, once that happens I think this generation will end and there will be a big gap before the next animated series.

So lets hope it won't end after the 5 years. Not that it will with all the money hasbro is getting ;)

Staying on G4 is a win-win situation.

There is plenty that can be done with G4 so it does make sense to stay with that for a while, but a lot can change in 5 years and it way too soon to tell if a G5 really will be as good as G4 or not. G5 could end up being a sequel to G4 for all we know, they haven't gone down that route yet but it is a possibility.

MLP is one of the cornerstone franchises of Hasbro, so it would be very strange for there not to be more toy generations. I would hope, however, that Hasbro start to break down the hard division dividers they have, and allow more cross-pollination between the Boys, Girls, and Games divisions. Such as a collectable tile game from Wizards of the Coast that uses the blind-bag ponies as pieces, for example. More villain toys as well.

Now, whether there will be animations for those future generations? At least the next one will, given the success of the current one. However it might be presented in a different way. Hasbro has been trying very hard to become a pure licensing company and IP manager, and distancing itself from any actual production. It's a hard path to follow for a large company which has built up a culture of absolute control, but if they want to be purely licensing as they have repeatedly said in their shareholder review meetings, they will need to hand off more and more creative control to agents like DHX and IDW.(That doesn't mean ignoring fanwork that violates trademark and copyright. It actually means getting more stringent against that kind of stuff as it puts the licenses in jeopardy.)

However, historically Hasbro does get a bit experimental on occasion (G3.5 was *extremely* experimental) so we might see them do something seemingly crazy and counter-intuitive. I'm not entirely sure what that would be anymore.

G5 needs to be more serious,... action, drama,.... almost anime...

Okay... wishful thinking

what i am fairly sure of is that G4 has pretty much solidified ponys place in subculture and no matter what comes of it in generations to come, there will always be fans to market them too.

Well, I can't help but think that Hasbro will try hard to emulate G4 given its success. It isn't inherently foolhardy but that'll depend on how they that attempt will be made. It's all about the approach.

Let me start off with how this can be done wrong:

Make the plots, story arcs, characters and universe pretty much carbon copies of G4. But wait, there's more. The team that makes the episodes probably won't really understand how to make everything work like the current team does and instead just focus more on trying to match G4 as much as possible instead of doing something interesting of their own. I think you can see where that is going.

As for how it can be done right:

Find a competent artist who has a real vision for the show and give the person the creative freedom to make it into something of his/her own that'll work, just as long as the show rating stays TV-Y which isn't much to ask, is it? Also allow this person to hand-pick the staff. That's pretty much how it went with Ms. Lauren Faust, isn't it?

See, here's the contrast:

With the former, the emulation happens superficially. It would try to look, sound and move like G4 but will ultimately come off as a cheap copy. Like when you have a good teacher in school and then you get a substitute that tries too hard to be like the other one. I think you get what I mean there.

But with the latter, what's emulated are the conditions that contributed to G4 being a success. What needs to be understood is that no seed, even those of the same species much less those of different species, is going to grow to look and be exactly the same as the last. What also needs to be understood is that this reality isn't going to stop this new seed from also growing into something beautiful.

One day there might be a G5 but all of this herd shall be put out to pasture when that time arises.

Damn G5 Whippersnappers with their Mega-Corn Ponies and Sonic Cyber-Booms....

Back in this day all we needed was one Sonic Rainboom a season and we got along just fine.

Little future bastids....

Hmmm, well then, I don't see a new gen coming out anytime soon, and as a side note, what would G5 even look like? Maybe the animation style and all that stays the same, only a time skipe of some type?

I'd hope so..... Just hoping that the characters age.... Ash is still ten, and he's been through how many seasons?.... By my calculations he should be like 25 by now...

Anyways...... Yes I really really hope their will be more gens to come.
