Scootie 109 February 20, 2014 Share February 20, 2014 Am i the only person who feels that Sweetie's talent in singing is being retconned by the writers? Season 1, especially The Show Stoppers, somewhat establishes that Sweetie's talent may be singing, but the only thing that is stopping her from discovering it is her stage fright. She sings in several instances. Then in season 2, the only moment she sings is in the Hearts and Hooves episode. But in Season Three all of a sudden, not only does Sweetie not get a song, she doesn't even get a solo in the Bad Seed song whilst the other CMCs do. And now in Season four, the absolute perfect plot for Sweetie Belle's singing talent and her problem with stage fright goes to Fluttershy! What a waste! I seriously can't believe that more people don't have a problem with Filli Vanilli not being a Sweetie episode. It would have been the perfect episode for her! Mind you, I did love the episode all the same, but come on, it should have been Sweetie Belle's! Anyway, back to my main thoughts on the writers retconning Sweetie's talent, I've been thinking that they are doing this because singing doesn't seem to be all that big of a deal in Equestria. Everyone is able to sing pretty well, so maybe the writers feel that it isn't that much of a special talent. Thoughts?
GoldenCal 52 February 20, 2014 Share February 20, 2014 It's kinda of the same thing as Flight to the finish. Scootaloo's talent was established as dancing or her scooter but despite the fact she shown to be good at it and managed to get all the way to crystal empire she still has nothing. I wouldn't expect the CMC to get their cutie marks unless they exhausted everything they could with the mane
Zekromic 1,054 February 20, 2014 Share February 20, 2014 Most likely because Claire Corlett (her VA) is not a trained singer, so, they usually rely on Michelle Creber (Apple Bloom's VA) to sing her lines

It doesn't matter how many times they do it, they won't get a cutie mark until they've made the connection. Check out my artwork any time: http://shadobabe.deviantart.com/ "OMG; You are such a troll. Scootalove 10,692 February 20, 2014 Share February 20, 2014 They need to realize that it's their talent, since they've tried with countless attempts to get their cutie marks and I appreciate their ambitions but since they are still young realizing their talents will have to come sooner or later. OtakuBrony 349 February 20, 2014 Share February 20, 2014 Howdy all! The Hearts & Horses song from Flight To The Finish is pretty darned good. And yes Claire Corlett does sing as Sweetie Belle Her Dad Ian posted on Twitter mentioned that she will be doing some singing. Before the episode aired. I wouldnt mind a SB solo song on her own from Claire in the future. Here it is in case anypony is wondering. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f1ZV6o8Byko
Zhortac 1,475 February 20, 2014 Share February 20, 2014 All three have shown their talents, but they don't see it themselves, which is part of their character. Maybe someday they'll realize it, but for now, they'll just go through tons of stuff, trying to figure it out. They are young. Feel free to add me on steam if you want to play something. Also don't be afraid to message and talk to me. I've had bad luck when I start a conversation, so I more then likely won't start one.
hawkflame 3,315 February 22, 2014 Share February 22, 2014 A lot of the respondents seem to be missing the point of the OP, which is that the *writers* seem to be forgetting that Sweetie Belle is good at singing. And I agree. Not only do they use her singing voice less, there's Sleepless in Ponyville, where she sings "99 Buckets of Oats On the Wall" completely out of tune. I think that an episode about performance and stage fright a la Filli Vanilli but featuring Sweetie Belle would have been a great idea. 1 Sig by Thunderstorm Check out my Rarity fansite! Sunny Fox 5,961 February 22, 2014 Share February 22, 2014 (edited) I'm surprised no one's mentioned "Sleepless in Ponyville" yet. Here they actively make Sweetie Belle sing terribly. Except that hawkflame just did. Gotta read more carefully in future. Edited February 22, 2014 by SolarFox 1 Happy minion of The Fabulous One! From the previous replies I thought I might have worded it wrong or something. Glad to know that's not the case
