Help me with my OC

Unicorn is the best, because they have magic, and life is 20% easier with magic! Next best is pegasus because they can fly. Alicorns are a bit iffy because they tend to be Mary/Gary Sues, but lots of people have pulled off non-Sue alicorn OCs.

I'm actually a bit interested in making an Alicorn OC. I just don't know how to make a back-story without her sounding like a 'sue.

I'd prefer earth pony actually since they're free from getting killed by flying or getting killed by accidental spells. *wink*

They are restricted though in certain situations, but they all have their differences. Most situations are resolved by a unicorn to be honest, depending on how many spells you know.

Unicorns may be the master race but Pegasus are free to go where ever they want, and I'd say that's about 20% cooler than magic. But don't make an alicorn. People see that as thinking that you think that you're better than them or see yourself as a higher power.

I think it depends on what you're going for.   I think there's a sad lack of Earth Pony OC's, but I guess people want abilities. The extreme case of potential would be Alicorns, but... I like canon and fancanon too much to really recommend reaching for that in the vast majority of cases. To each their own, but... Yeah, the 'sue bit comes up really easily. Plus in said canon/fancanon, it raises the question, are you now of higher status than other nonalicorns? Does it make you royalty? Or, does it make you wildly powerful/talented?

Pegasus and unicorns, well, could turn a bit 'sue-ish too in my opinion of you make them unfairly better at what they do than RD and Twi (respectively).

Still.

Earth ponies are durable and strong. Pegasi are quick and mobile. Unicorns are magically inclined.

What appeals to you most, in terms of an interesting OC?

Well, you could have their backstory be that they were born with a horn and regular pegasus wings (as opposed to those giant alicorn wings), just accidentally, and their alicornness has nothing to do with their status (like one of my OCs, Karen, who's just about the most ordinary alicorn ever).

I like them all! Though most people get annoyed when people make alicorns, because their like a special type of pony. A lot of people make them. I did once, but that was because I like all the types of ponies and couldn't pick one!
