@@MasterCombine,

I don't have too much difficulty with the writing. It's just that I'll write something I think is good and then, upon seeing how amazingly well-written some other stories are, I'll get discouraged. Even though, logically, I know that level of writing comes with practice and revision. It's just the thought of not measuring up that scares me, which is silly.

Also, you don't have to write an intro like that (and I'd actually say starting it with those famous words has become a little cliche at this point). I'd just say a good intro should either establish some brief and relevant backstory for where the story is taking place (the intro for the original FO:E set up the world of MLP through the lens of Fallout, for example. Chances are, if you're reading an FO:E sidefic, though, you don't need the world set up again, unless some of the major players/countries/factions involved are different from the norm), or it should give us a glimpse into who your character is and what they're doing.

Is it weird that the intro be in first person but have the rest be in third person...

It might be a little jarring, yeah. But ultimately that choice lies with you. I guess it depends on the rest of your story. Does the story only have one viewpoint protagonist? If so, you might just want to keep it first person the whole way through. If you have multiple viewpoint characters, though, third person would make that easier to write.

I prefer to pick one perspective (third or first) and stick with it, though.

@MasterCombine

Ain't that the truth! I feel a bit lesser when I cannot write to par than other writes, but yeah it's silly.

I know. It gets to the point where it's debilitating sometimes. But we just have to let go of the fear and write  ;)

Which, like I said before, seems to be easier said than done.

Hey, just for reference, about how much would you say a suit of Steel Ranger power armor weighs (I know it's supposedly too heavy to move in without the gems)? More specifically, about how much would you say Hazel's armor weighs?

Referencing the video game wiki doesn't do much good either. In Fallout 3 a full suit of power armor is only 45 pounds. That's impossible, right? I would think a suit like that, made out of steel, with weapons included, would weigh well over a hundred pounds.

Well lets compare the mjolnir suit from halo to the steelranger suit. Hazel nut has gigantism and really physically fit so he would look similar to a spartan in pony form. The suit itself would need to match the size and offer good protection to boot. With the weapons added it would be around half a ton or a ton exactly.

@,

a ton!

wow you would really have to take that apart to make salvaged power armor...

you would have to take off all the weapons, using battle-saddles would be impossible, only earth ponies (naturally stronger than the other races) and unicorns could wear it, but unicorns would have to focus most of their magic on lifting the armor with their legs. Most of the armor on the legs and body would need to me removed, and you would still have to remove allot of the gems (because you would still need training and taking it apart would be useless), and it would still weigh over maybe 300 pounds at the least, meaning you would need to be in your physical prime and extremely fit, and it would still probably drop your agility extremely.

My Estimate:

Salvaged Power Armor

Wgt: 300 - 500 (you are always over encumbered

Earth pony: -5 through -7 Agility (probably be lighter/heavier for Hazel because of his gigantism)

Unicorn: -7 through -9 Agility (unless they have extremely powerful magic, about that of an alicorn = -4 through -6)

Pegasus: ALL the Agility! (unless your scrapping Enclave Light armor, which all you have to do is remove the gems)

I now know that the Gems replace the Servomotors and all the other stuff...

also anything I miss

This isn't salvaged power armor it is actual power armor  ^_^ I just added stuff on top nothing internal replaced at all just the helmet had a major redo. The armor when powered weighs around 40 pounds and I only lose agility, that's why they get stuck when the suit is hit with an emp, the suits natural weight is too much to bare. The sudden weight change would cause any pony to fall to the floor till the power comes back or they are strong enough to get back up, but they would be weighed down eventually. Sorry for any confusions, if I worded anything wrong in any earlier post about this.

@@Defender of Tomorrow

If she's fresh out of the stable, how can Shinon be so nonchalant seeing a Ranger like that?

Ragnar's fought Rangers once or twice before, but even he doesn't go out of his way to screw with them.

That's her personality I think you know stoic and not caring

@,

Hazmat was close to surrendering when he first saw Steel Rangers.... that was when Hazmat was 19.

Ragnar's not the surrendering type, but at this point in his life even he knows when he's outmatched. The sight of a Ranger that big and well-armed was enough to shock him, to say the least.

In all honest rangers got S.A.T.S and heavy weapons, anybody with common sense won't pick a fight with them straight up unless they got numbers or good weapons and tactics.

Now Hazmat isn't scared of Steel Rangers, proven by how he walked up to Hazel with his revolver drawn.

Then Hazmat wouldn't be very terrifying, But yet he puts fear in the hearts of his enemies... maybe hunting revolvers are scarier than I thought...
